Views, the less said the better. At the back of a housing estate. The staff generally were nice without going the extra yard.
Showers very small and no bath
The beds are very low and few inches from the floor . They are not very comfortable and not the best if you have back problems or sleep problems.
The position is good about 10 minutes walk to center
The hotel is clean
It has no lift and it is hard to walk to the top floor
The reception are is very small but the staff are good and very friendly
Internet is free
Trams run directly along the street outside, but we tended to walk everywhere in town or use the metro which is cheap and fairly easy to undertake. (Turn right when leaving hotel, walk about 300 metres and turn left at main junction. Metro subway about 30 metres by traffic lights on left. 2 Levs per person for a ticket to the main square to find the Alexander Levski Memorial etc. and flea market. Take right hand platform and travel two stops. This will also provide you with a McDonalds, (the devil you know!) and tourist information where they speak excellent english and are extremely helpful. You can get some really useful leaflets on Sofia, which helped us enormously.
The hotel offers a small lounge area downstairs as you enter, where you can have your breakfast or just chill and have a drink if you wish, when on site. There is a lift to all floors, which is good, as the stairs are a bit of a health and safety risk due to the condition of the carpet in places. Not as much of a H & S risk as the pavements generally, which are appalling. I know as I took quite a tumble on one occasion and came close many times.
We chose to have breakfast brought to our room and this can be arranged between 8am and 10am. This consisted of a glass of orange juice, a very small coffee and one warm croissant with butter and jam: plenty for us, but a large coffee would have been better received, but don't expect this anywhere in Sofia: Small is best it seems!
Our room was generally clean, although it could have done with a good dust and the floor washed. It was turned around mid-week and the bathroom cleaned every day with clean towels as required. The room was of a good size and very nicely decorated and furnished, being very contemporary in appearance. The little minibar offered a good range of drinks, soft and alcoholic and was very reasonably priced. We thought the room very comfortable and you even get supplied with condoms!
We had a little balcony, which would have been well received if it wasn't for the fact that it was on the back of the building and provided a view of wasteland and general rubbish: Nothing pretty or interesting unfortunately, just a bit sad. It would not have taken much to make this area more appealling to the eye, to a point, but this depends on who owns it I suppose.
The staff try to be as helpful as possible, but there are some language issues, so be prepared to make some effort to be patient and tolerant of that fact as we found little evidence of english being spoken generally in Sofia: Aim for the youngsters as they are much more proficient, older people tend to look at you as if you have just dropped from Mars.
Eating out is generally very cheap and there are two very reasonable restaurants/bars close by. One diagonally opposite to the left with the menu in english when requested and one to the right on the same side, about 60 metres, turn right and it is just on the left. (Italian of a sort) Lots of other take-away opportunities in close proximity.
If you want the general outdoor market or supermarket, turn left outside hotel and go across the first main road. Continue for about 60 metres and take first left, both are a short walk down this road, with the supermarket on the left. (make sure you weigh and label fruit etc., at point of selection or you get told off (nicely) by the cashier and be careful on crossings not controlled by traffic lights as pedestrians do not have right of way!)
Beware if you hire a car, as you have to pay to park in this street and any other in the city. This is not expensive (1 Lev per hour), but you can only park for two hours at a time and you have to be able to find the person in the lime green tabbard who issues the vouchers.
Although these individuals are quite numerous they are not always where you want them and this can mean quite a wait in or around the car until one surfaces. No voucher means you get clamped. If you are not there pretty rapidly to pay the fine, you very quickly get towed away!! This therefore demands constant awareness of the situation or you get out of the city between the hours of 8.30am and 6.30pm. Free on Saturdays and Sundays.
The car hire representative who was filling in paperwork with us in the hotel lobby was clamped as he did not purchase a voucher and he was with us very briefly.
Overall, we found the hotel to offer very good value for money and enjoyed our stay there.

of towels but not sheets.our bed was made only once and on one occassion we came in at
10pm to find our breakfast trays still on the bed.breakfast is served in your room and is a
joke.with one over warmed wet croissant,a little butter, jam served in a cup,a mouth full of juice
and stewed coffee there will be no need to diet when you return home.there is a kettle in the room but no cups and they refused to give us any.the staff were polite but had no information
on the area or where to find anything for the tourist.be careful of the stair carpet it is lethal it has holes and tears on the edge of the treads.you don't get what you paid for, they get your money and you get a 1 star hostel, which will be cheaper than staying here for good food and drink try the 43 pub across the road.
I stayed in room 104 which is directly over the lobby on the first floor. The three large windows look out over the street. Overall the room was a decent size and the bathroom was large and had a tub and shower. My general impression of the room was that it was a fine room, although it could have used a good scrubbing.
On the positive side there was a safe in the room as well as a mini-bar. They also supplied toiletries (including condoms, interestingly enough). The large bed was two twins pushed together as is typical in Europe. The staff seemed quite friendly although English was a bit of a struggle for a couple of them.
The shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water and there was a tv in the room, although the remote did not work. It was a short walk to the Women's Market and Billa grocery store (3-5 minutes) and about a 10 minute walk to the Central Market.
On the con side of the room, the front facing room I was in was a bit loud at night with the trams running and the stray dogs barking. Breakfast was weak at best with OJ, coffee and a croissant. However, there are plenty of places around to grab a bite to eat. Also, the wifi went down about a day into my stay and they were never able to fix it the rest of the time I was there. When it was working it was good, however that was for less than 24 hours of my 3+ day stay.
Sofia is a great city for exploring, although there isn't much touristy to really do. Go and experience the food.
It's about a 15 minute walk to the town centre and about 30 minutes to the train and busstation. The hotel is placed in a bit of a shabby neighboorhood, but it's no ghetto either. It's quiet though. The only thing waking us up at night were our deaf neighbors. They didn't realize how much noise they were making.
The best thing about the Bulgari hotel is the three condoms that lay waiting in the room for you.
The worst thing is the croisants they give you for breakfast.
"Rooms at the back are a bit quieter as at the front you can hear the trams. I preferred the front though as I could see what was going on in the street."Read full review
