When coming by car the front desk staff came to show us the way to car park and helped with our luggage. After entering the room on the 9th floor we were amazed about the great view over the center and the beautiful materials of all the furniture. We enjoyed a drink and a small snack in the lobby and generally we were impressed by the service and friendly way all the staff communicates with the guests. From hotel to the Boulevard Vitosha is only 5 minutes walking for shopping and lovely places to drink or eat traditional Bulgarian. Behind the hotel is one of the beautiful parks from Sofia. After spending the evening outside we had a good rest in the kings size bed and woke up with some cappuccino being served soon after our call for room service. Later we finished our stay with a nice breakfast and unfortunately we already had to leave. I hope to visit Sofia and the Grand Hotel Sofia again in sometime.

I had a wonderful stay at the Grand & departed feeling very happy with my choice of accommodation. Staff were friendly, professional & efficient, with excellent English skills. Pre-stay emails were responded to with courtesy & speed & the hotel airport transfer was reliable. The location is ideal for so many of the major landmarks & attractions & there is a lovely park to the rear of the hotel. Bedrooms are generously proportioned, with standard rooms the biggest in the city according to their website. I was thrilled to be upgraded to a magnificent 4th floor corner suite, a room of over 70 sq.m with panoramic views from several windows. It was very well insulated as I didn’t hear a peep from inside or out, & slept like a baby. Furnishings are undoubtedly dated & rather drab….. but everything worked well & plus points include ample sockets, comfy beds, mini-bar plus tea/coffee making, & superb WiFi. A dearth of coat hangers though! The bathroom was more stylish & modern than the main suite, solidly decked out in marble & with a super power shower.
I didn’t dine at the hotel or use the health facilities, but certainly, for my purposes, The Sofia Grand served me very well indeed.

Just checked out after a 3 night stay

Firstly the location of this hotel is definitely a selling point. It’s very well placed to explore all the key sights of the city.

We paid extra to have a terrace room on the top floor which we were glad we had as it was lovely to have some fresh air and sit out on the terrace enjoying the views of the mountains. One area of improvement would be for there to be made some loungers or more comfortable chairs to be out there. It’s a huge space and the tiny chairs and table could be much bigger as there is plenty of space to play with.

The room was clean and tidy and we liked the characterful style rather than a bland chain hotel. Housekeeping was carried out every day which is a nice change from some of our other hotel experiences recently where it’s been a struggle.

Our bathroom had a large bath and walk in shower so it was nice to have the choice/option and if only we’d known about the generous toiletries we could’ve left some of ours at home. White Linen branded.

Before our stay wed emailed and asked for a kettle in the room which they’d confirmed. This was there when we checked in but was swiftly brought up when we flagged it was missing. Weirdly there was a pod coffee machine but no pods provided. We learnt there was an extra charge for these 3 lev for 2 which seemed really unnecessary when you’ve paid for an upgraded room. They are included in some other room types but not the standard terrace room.

Late check out was a bonus but again this came at an extra charge although they waived 1 hour of the €10 per hour fee. Being able to stay till 4pm was perfect for us as we had a late pm flight so nice to still have a base for am exploring.

All the staff we meet spoke a decent standard of English. Some of the staff were more engaging than others but all were helpful, just the action and communication was more enjoyable with some.

There is a ‘spa’ onsite but we chose not to spend the. €20 per person fee, again strange it’s offered but not included.

Overall we would recommend this hotel but might be worth ensuring you know all the extra fees you might be liable for if you want to use specific elements.

We stayed for one night and maybe this wasn't enough time to get the full Grand Hotel experience. The staff were mannerly and helpful. We had both lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant.
For lunch, there was only two of us dining out. The food was very good. As was our waiter. And the price was reasonable also.
For dinner that evening, we had a party of 14. Now maybe this is the done thing in 5-star hotels outside Ireland but we were very surprised to find a charge of 165lev for water at the end of our meal. We were not charged for water earlier on that day for lunch. Maybe this is the norm for bigger parties but we were not informed of this prior to sitting down for our meal. Although it could have been on the menu but we didn't spot it if it was.
All in all, a grand hotel. Decent staff. Tasty food. A bit sneaky with the water but we'll get over that. Certainly, a lot nicer than the Rila over the road.

My family and I has visited Grand Hotel Sofia on a regular basis for the last twelve years. We enjoy the friendliness of the staff, the comfort and the generous size of the rooms or apartments, the hotels location in the city etc..... We wish the hotel and the staff manage to sustain the standard they themselves have set in Sofia. Soon we shall be there again....!

The hotel has a very central location, in the heart of Sofia. They offer any service and they say yes to everything. The rooms are huge, which takes away the claustrophobic feeling of windows that don't open. Large bathroom equipped with everything, even bath salts (there is a bathtub and shower)
The breakfast is very rich with quality raw materials, everything fresh. Dinner there is also fine.
There is room for improvement, the staff at the reception must smile, without this mechanical training and in general they must pay more attention to details, something that does not belong to us Bulgarians, but is unlikely to escape an Italian, for example.
I say this as a recommendation, because the stars are 5 and must be defended.
I highly recommend

the perfect location and informal attitude of the single waitress attending the tables is ruined by slow service and low quality of drinks. Even though there were guests at just about five of the tables at 6pm I had to wait more than twenty mintes just for the menu. In another 15 minutes I grabbed the chance to ask to be given the cocktails menu. In another 10 minutes could at last place my order - a gin cocktail. *there are two gin cocktails in the menu - one with pink pepper, the other one with rosemary. I asked for the latter. I got it without the rosemary but still had to pay the full price. Sadly this hour of feeling neglected and cheated upon would keep me away of this otherwise alluring green place for the next five years or so.

Staff was excellent, by far the best personnel in comparison with other 5-star hotels in Sofia.
The room was huge, 60sq.m makes it one of the biggest hotel rooms out there. Bathroom: marble grandeur, very big and stylish, and the bed was very comfortable. However, the rooms could be easily renovated to feel cozier, decor and furniture is outdated and, although rooms are clean and the intention is clearly to evoke a sense of old-world grandeur, the overall effect feels somewhat antiquated, distracting from the warmth of the huge room. The duvet was way too small and entirely disproportionate to the bed and plush room. I expected something at least double in size and much fluffier. The TV has very limited options, 1 music channel and basic news channels only, if you want to browse anything else it is on demand only. They have installed a system of paperless room service ordering through the TV. The idea is great, the implementation not so much, I encountered several operational hiccups. TV scroller would get stuck and I had to walk up close to the TV set to be able to scroll. When I added food items and went back to add beverages my order was deleted. Breakfast menu is only available during breakfast hours, which is entirely counterintuitive and created more issues than it solved. It was solved easily with the help of the excellent front desk staff, but in the end it took a lot more back and forths and more time and explaining than necessary.
Food was great but expensive by local standards.
Location was excellent, a 5minute walk to Vitosha avenue and close to everything.

Well, the welcome and the service of the concierge is good. The room is wide. The bed linen is too small and not perfectly fitting the bed. The rest is comfortable including very smooth bathrobes. Despite outdated decoration in room and in the lobby & restaurant.
Breakfast is soso, certainely not at the level of its price, including the fact that there is no fresh juice, that we need to insist to have breakfast outside.
There is a taste of old fashion. Time for renovation and more modern vision of service.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you sincerely for taking the time to share your impressions of your stay with us. All comments are welcome as they always help us to improve our services. In this regard, yours are really appreciated and will be taken into account. I understand that despite our efforts, we have not been able to fully meet your expectations, which I regret. I would not like to sound like an excuse, but I guess you know that our industry has been among the most affected by the pandemic in the last year and a half. We most of all want to return to normal life and I can assure you that when that happens, things will be better for everyone. Specifically for some of your complaints: I would not agree with you that 15 Euros is a high price for the breakfast we offer, but of course everyone has the right to have personal expectations and preferences. We are flexible enough and if you share them, we will always find a way to react. If our guests ask for a fresh, we will provide it. It may surprise you, but last year the hotel was completely renovated and this old style was deliberately kept by investors. The idea is to preserve the original, historic look of the rooms with its spirit. For many people this is inspiring, others prefer brand new modern hotels. We chose to be classic and old-fashioned. Thank you once again We will be happy to welcome you back! Best Regards, Nikolay Rusev General Manager.
