Rosslyn Thracia Hotel Sofia is often celebrated for its prime central location and modern, clean rooms with comfy beds, which many travelers find to be spacious and well-equipped. While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness generally earn positive marks, guests have called out the breakfast and water services as needing enhancement.
The value proposition receives mixed reviews, with the location's convenience being a highlight, whereas unexpected charges and subpar breakfast options draw criticism. Service encounters vary, with reports of both friendly and inconsiderate staff, and while most guests experience attentive housekeeping, some have raised concerns about bathroom cleanliness and noise levels.

Perfect location, right in the center. Very large and well furnished room, lots of bathroom products and new and very clean sheets. I'm not giving it a 5 star rating because the breakfast, 20 euros a day for two, was really poor. Served at 4 tables in the entrance, probably because the breakfast room was unusable, it was very bare, in fact I would say that there was practically nothing except 4 sandwiches, two slices of ham and little else. For the rest it was all gone: croissants, crêpes, eggs, yogurt, fruit. We asked to have something and the boy served us some yogurt and that was it. He told us that we had to wait for the rest, that he was alone and that they had eaten everything. I understand that the situation may be emergency if the breakfast room is being renovated, but they should have served breakfast at the bar next door or given it free. A couple who got off after us, after we had finished what little there was, left...

The hotel had a great location, being only a 5 minute walk to the main street with all the bars and restaurants. The hotel room was spacious and very clean. For the price, we would definetly recommend this hotel as a more luxury option at a lower budget. The staff were all really helpful, and we were able to get late check out free of charge due to booking directly.

What can I say... excellent location, courteous, smiling staff always available for dialogue. Every member of staff was eager to support our needs, providing information on local attractions, shopping, as well as assistance with restaurant and taxi reservations. The rooms are spacious and extraordinarily comfortable, with an incredibly comfortable bed that invites you to rest, a well-heated room for a welcoming atmosphere. Bright and spacious bathroom.
The breakfast, good and inspired by local flavours, was another of the strong points of this structure. But what really made my stay unforgettable was the attention to detail: informed of my birthday, they prepared a beautiful surprise consisting of a bottle of wine and a greeting card full of affectionate thoughts.
I cannot help but highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hospitable experience full of personalized attention. A true example of excellence in service and hospitality.

I’ve been to a lot of hotels in Europe. This has to be the worst four star I’ve ever stayed.
I’ll star positives and why this isn’t a 1 star review. Two members of staff were amazing and really understood what it meant to welcome guests. I can’t remember their names but I’m sure they and their managers know who they are. The LOCATION was great. In the middle of everything. Also the rooms are reasonable and clean from my experience.
The rest of the staff were just out right rude. Friends of mine being shouted at for daring to try and get some water from the machine. Yes ok, can’t use it after breakfast he didn’t know but no need to shout at a guest. In addition, a four star hotel in my experience always offers complimentary WATER. Even if you just have one bottle in your room, such a small thing that can make a world of difference. Most of the staff you couldn’t tell if they were working or peeping to go on a night out. This isn’t a hostel it’s meant to be a 4 star hotel.
Cleaners will just walking into your room without knocking. Happened on several occasions. They will leave boxes and supplies in the corridor for weeks.
The worst is the breakfast. One experience and I couldn’t go back for the rest of my stay. Stale bread and pastries that were brought from Lidl many days before hand. (I checked) and the limited “hot” food was just revolting and inedible. Just go out for food if you are planning on staying more than one night.
This place could be nice. There is another one of the same chain by the National Palace of Culture. A lot better and more deserving of 4 star so it’s not unattainable and the excuse of this reflects the price just doesn’t hold.

Overall not bad but we encountered some of the grumpiest staff ever at this hotel! Even when saying good morning to housekeeping you got a grumpy look in return. They do not provide complimentary water in the rooms which for an alleged 4 star is not very good. When I asked to use the water machine downstairs to fill my bottle (which they use for breakfast) I got told to go and buy my own water. Charming. Stains on the carpet, rips/holes in the linen, a shower that doesn’t drain very well and thus over flows. 3 stars at best unfortunately.

I stayed at Rosslyn Thracia Hotel Sofia for 3 nights in March 2024. Although the room itself was fine, I have to be completely honest and say that the quality breakfast upset me greatly as I was with my new partner and wanted to make a good impression.
When I booked my stay at the hotel through Expedia, I added £23.47 (per person per night) to my booking, trusting through the sight of the hotel rooms in the photos and respectable enough reviews that it appeared a pleasant enough hotel to offer a breakfast worthy of my hard-earned money, and therefore I included breakfast in my booking (this means I paid a total of £140.82 for the breakfast for two for 3 mornings).
I have to say, this was the worst breakfast I ever had the displeasure to eat in any hotel I have ever stayed in. Nothing that was laid out on the tables in reception was fresh. Croissants (the kind with preservatives) straight out of a supermarket packet, hard and chewy inside. One tiny hot tray, with 3 foods inside orange hotdog frankfurter type sausages, cold hard-boiled eggs, none of which appealed. It was truly shocking and as basic as humanly possible. I literally ate toast (sliced from a packet loaf) all 3 mornings as nothing else was edible on the 3 small tables leaning up against a mini coffee bar in their small reception area. One morning 2 guys delivered huge water bottles rolling them past our table, knocking into us as they went to and from the van several times. Another morning there were people not having breakfast rudely standing up against our table, their heads directly above us in their conversation (probably they were checking out, but there is simply no room in reception for a pleasant breakfast with adequate privacy and space to relax).
Having complained to both Expedia and the hotel, I have been ignored by both as if the paying public should simply have to accept it when things are completely below the expected standard for the money paid. The hotel manager did respond one time with an offer of a small discount on my next booking, but I have no reason to return to Sofia. My follow up email to her asking for a receipt breakdown of costs so I could persue my complaint with Expedia (they had asked me for this receipt), was completely ignored my the hotel manager! Seems the hotel do not like complaints, so if you have anything you are disappointed with, I guess you simply need to suck it up afterwards. If I had purchased a few slices of bread for toast and had a cup of tea at home, the amount I ate at this hotel would come to no more than £10 for all of my breakfasts combined. And my partner also just nibbled because nothing much appealed to her either. I was honestly embarrassed as her stay was supposed to be romantic and it felt like I had booked somewhere on the cheap but had actually paid £140 for the breakfast. Can you imagine the breakfasts I could have got for this money in a local cafe? I am currently processing a legal complaint until this money is refunded as I am not going to simply accept being conned like this.

The only positive rating is the location. Some of the staff are rude, others are nice, but no one could explain to me why I pay for the minibar in advance if I don't want to use it. They asked me to leave the card number, expiration date, holder name... for a guarantee, plus to pay 25 euros for the same. Two girls before me paid and left their card numbers because they couldn't deal with the worker. I didn't want to pay him, so he said I didn't have to after 20 minutes of discussion (I came in the hotel after 4 hours long trip and 2 meetings and I had to argue with this unpleasant guy). After that I got a room next to the elevator mechanism (101), where all night long I listened to the pounding of the elevator and the sounds of the sewage when anyone in the hotel flushed the toilet, maybe I deserved it, I don't know.... In addition, the hotel deserves 2, possibly 3 stars, definitely not 4, given that breakfast is served in the hall in front of the main entrance and reception. I have visited many countries and hotels, but here I experienced the greatest inconvenience. I visited 3 hotels in 3 cities in 4 days in Bulgaria, I was delighted with the accommodation, people, food, hospitality and I experienced this only here in this hotel. If I come again, I will definitely choose another hotel.

Booked this hotel for a cheap Xmas weekend away as it seemed to be highly recommended.. I also had a free room upgrade through booking so I had a huge room With big bed, tv and nice shower room etc.. Nearly all staff were very friendly and helpful and hotel was situated on a road off of ‘main street’ so perfect location… Had one issue with an unhelpful staff member on the phone fobbing me off till morning when safe stopped working and had my cash and passports stuck in it for the night but the morning staff were very helpful in sorting it out…these things happen…my only gripe was the breakfast…it was small, had no hot or fresh cooked food and the room was so small you couldn’t get seated unless you were first in or last out…don’t know how 2 dozen chairs serves a 6plus floor hotel?? Any how..it was £100 per night and for that you get a good clean room In The centre of town so still very much value for money… Just if they charge extra for breakfast, don’t bother is all I would say

A very central placed hotel, close to the inner city. The hotel facilities are fine, and in a modern style. The rooms are also fine, with the nessesary things as a small refrigerator and a coffee maker. Breakfast are ok, but not big. We afsked for bacon and eggs when we ordered the stay, and they promished bacon and boiled eggs. It was there, but the bacon was not crispy and the eggs overboiled. The hotel is fine for a short stay. A big negative thing is, that the staff dont care about the guests. They are more interested in looking smart themselves, than to giver a proper service. It is seldom that we get such a bad service. The service are only 2 stars, but the hotel is 3-4 stars.

We stayed for one night. We had informed via email that we would be arriving from Italy around 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. When we arrived at 1:00 PM, the room was not yet ready, and it was handed over to us at 2:30 PM. The reception service is terrible. In the evening, even at 10:30 PM, the bar was already closed. The cleaning lady opened our room at 7:30 in the morning. Although the suite terrace is a well-furnished and very spacious room, the Velux blinds cannot be closed, so you wake up with the first light of the sun. The breakfast is poor and served in the hall. Great location. For a 4-star hotel, they absolutely need to improve the service!!
