Very pleasant, up-to-date, smaller hotel with all necessary amenities. Conveniently located less than 10 min walk from Central Train/Bus station, and just off the main thoroughfare of Maria Louisa Street with frequent tram and bus service. Old Town and Downtown are also within walking distance. My room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. My only issue, at my age, is the lighting in the room could be brighter. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. Got an excellent recommendation to a great restaurant serving traditional meals, just across Maria Louisa Street. Breakfast buffet was very good, with a nice variety of selections.

At 1st when the taxi dropped us off, we thought it was a mistake. The area is pretty rundown and the outside doesn’t look fantastic. But inside lobby is much better. The staff is great. Very helpful and friendly. Our room did not look like the pictures and initially we were a little discouraged. But it was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. In fact, it solved some of our stiff neck/back problems. The breakfast was good and the attendant was friendly. All in all, this is not luxury, but we were very satisfied.

Dear Erikaanne, Thank you so much for taking the time to post your honest review and share with all of us your recent experience with Budapest Hotel Sofia! We are pleased to read that our staff members contributed to your pleasant and comfortable stay in Sofia as well as the hotel's facilities and equipment. Note that we have several room categories and some of them were very recently fully redesigned and newly refurbished. That must be the cause of confusion with the photos you have seen in internet prior to your arrival at the hotel and the booked and provided room type! Having said all that we will be delighted to welcome you back on our premises whenever travel brings you to Sofia again someday! Cordial regards, Trifon Paskalev Director of Sales and Marketing

At first I was assigned a grim room in the basement next to a boiler room that made a loud rattling noise. When I went to the reception to request another room, they moved me to a different (cheaper) room type without offering to refund the difference. As you can tell from the pictures, the corridors were dark and stained: it felt like The Shining. Inside the room, the carpet was stained, the furniture was tattered, and the towels frayed. The mattress was uncomfortable. All in all, an unpleasant experience.

Dear SabiSo, First of all I would like to thank you for sharing your recent experience with Budapest Hotel Sofia never mind that it left such negative impression in you! We do communicate all feedback with the hotel’s team no matter if it is positive or negative! Our main goal is to keep our guests in a safe and clean environment! That is why all our rooms and suites are undergoing deep cleaning every 2 months that include not only steam cleaning and shampooing the carpets but also laundering every fabric in their equipment. Reading your comments we are a bit perplexed as the hotel’s boiler room is located two floors below ground and obviously no hotel rooms are surrounding it! Being located on a busy street with quite heavy traffic that might have been the cause of the noise you were experiencing during your stay with us last November 2022! Unfortunately the information you have shared in your review is too scarce to trace back what exactly went wrong with your stay and in which room the amenities need to be checked and improved. We would really appreciate it if you could contact us by email or phone to give us some more details and for us to be able to take the necessary actions! Finally I do believe that with a bit more communication with my colleagues on duty we could have made your stay much more comfortable and do hope should you decide to pay us another visit to openly discuss your needs and if something is bothering you as I we are all here to serve and assist you in all possible for a human ways! Stay safe and all the best, Trifon Paskalev Director of Sales and Marketing

This was my second stay at this hotel. Very nice, cozy and clean. Within 2-5 min walking distance from the central bus and train station, two metro stations are also nearby. The food at the restaurant was delicious.

As the company I worked for used to book us in this hotel, I continued to trust them when I needed to stay in Sofia for personal reasons. The location of the hotel is convenient as it is within walking distance of Vitosha bul. so access to restaurants and bars is very easy. The Sofia central bus station is also very close. The rooms were clean and spacious and the beds very comfortable. The staff, which is very friendly, takes care of the parking of the guests’ car. Breakfast options could be expanded. I would especially like to thank Mr. Trifon for his valuable help. It’s definitely a value for money option near the city center.

I’m very unsure how this hotel has such a high rating.. my sister and I booked this hotel last minute due to some unexpected travel interruptions. It was priced higher than most other hotels in the area, but we decided to book it anyway because the reviews were pretty good. We were upgraded to a higher category room at checkin, which was appreciated and the receptionists were lovely and helpful. The beds and pillows are very firm with thin quilts which provide little warmth. The heater in our room consistently made a loud rattling/whirring sound every so often, if we turned it off the room would become freezing. If we left it on, it would wake us in the middle of the night (room 507, just to give you a heads up). The bath towels are paper thin, and you’re only provided one pillow per bed. We requested extra pillows which were provided. Now, the complimentary buffet breakfast.. don’t have high expectations. I don’t know how it is possible, but they overcooked the boiled eggs? I think that comment alone gives you an idea of what the food is like. The variety is small and the coffee is the worst I have had in my life. If you’re happy to stick to toast, croissants and jam then it is fine. I would rate this hotel 3 stars if the price was more reasonable, but $300AUD for 2 nights is exorbitant considering the product provided. Unfortunately would not recommend or return.

Dear 947caytlinm, Thank you for taking the time write a review of Budapest Hotel Sofia and share your recent experience from last December! Truly surprised to read that the AC in one of the very newly refurbished Corner Deluxe rooms was malfunctioning and reported this to our technician to make a thorough check and fix this! Regarding your comments on the price-quality ratio (have no idea how much are $300AUD and whether that’s a lot of money or no but that is also a personal assessment everyone has to make for themselves) I feel the need to say that we are an independent 3-star property and the focus on our efforts is to make the most of our guests stay with us and in Sofia no matter whether they are here for business or for pleasure by trying to fulfill any guest requirement and/or need that has been raised. Of course, what we have learned from experience and from being 14 years in business is that the key to a problem-free stay is communication! I do believe that if you have raised your concerns and what was bothering you during your 2-nights’ stay immediately to my colleagues they would had taken the necessary actions to resolve all the issues you described. Having said all that I do hope you will change your mind and decide to give us another chance in future when I will personally make sure your needs are better catered! Stay safe and all the best, Trifon Paskalev Director of Sales and Marketing

This hotel is ok as overall we weren't very happy with our experience. The wi-fi connection in the rooms is very poor, almost non-existent at times. The towels and linens are old and worn, as the towels are very thin and had holes in them. The hotel is exceptionally run down and needs some refurbishments (stains on the carpets, paint peeling off the walls, etc). The lobby and many of the corridors smell heavily of cigarette smoke, which is disgusting. The complimentary breakfast was underwhelming, as the only thing we enjoyed were the croissants. Our heater would make very loud noises (especially during the night) which were so unpleasant that we opted to turn it off, choosing to be cold of an evening rather than listening to the eerie noises. The beds were also quite firm, and the amenities were very limited in the rooms (they don't even provide teaspoons). I feel like this hotel cuts a lot of corners to not spend money where it's important, and honestly, it shows. Unfortunately, I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Dear KMacker, Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion of Budapest Hotel Sofia and your experience with us! I do believe you or your co-traveller already shared the same feedback and with risk to repeat myself I have to say that the key to a problem-free stay is communication! We all are humans and do make mistakes but I do believe that if you have raised your concerns and what was bothering you during your stay immediately to my colleagues they would had taken the necessary actions to resolve all the issues you described. Truly surprised to read that the AC in one of the very newly refurbished Corner Deluxe rooms was malfunctioning and reported this to our technician to make a thorough check and fix this! Regarding your comments on cost saving which is present in all business trying to recover after Covid-19 lockdowns, war implications and now the skyrocketing inflation, we do our best to keep a high level of services and maintenance and do invest a lot in improvements that we hope are visible to all. Finally, I do hope you will make up your mind and decide to give us another chance in near future when I will personally make sure your needs are better catered! Old, but nice and clean. Rooms are bigger than average. Mattresses are memory foam (not for everyone), but quite comfortable. Bathroom is ok-ish, bath and showerhead need upgrade, water pressure is just enough. Towels are thin and small. Carpets need too be replaced in almost all areas. Breakfast is nice, a selection of bakery, some cold cuts, scrambled eggs, baked beans, bacon, cereal etc. Good coffee machine. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Tram stop is a 2-minute walk and will take you to Vitosha street (shopping and eating). Blue line of Metro station is just five minutes away from hotel. There s parking right outside the hotel door. Overall the value-for-money is excellent, you get what you pay for. I would recommend it.

We had a comfortable stay at the Budapest Hotel, about a 15-20 walk from the center of town. It is located near the train and bus stations so convenient for anyone traveling by either. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms facing the street can be noisy at night as a street car runs along side the hotel, but by late evening the noise dies down. The restaurant is a good find as the one dinner we enjoyed was very tasty and extremely reasonable. There is a good selection of breakfast items to choose from the buffet breakfast included in the price of the room.
