Hostel Franz Ferdinand is a newly opened hostel located in the very heart of Sarajevo. If you are looking for a comfortable accommodation in the center, easy on the pocketbook too, to sleep in a private rooms or mixed dorms – look no further. In a charming building, built in the Austro-Hungarian period, young architects and designers refurbished the space and shaped a hostel that tells you a story of the event that initiated the First World War and forever marked Sarajevo on the map of the world – the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian archduke and Royal Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. Every room in the hostel is authentic and you can choose to sleep in the Franz Ferdinand Room, Sophie Chotek Room, the Young Bosnia Room or the assassin Gavrilo Princip Room or rather, take the romantic room of the couple in love, the Sophie and Franz Room. From the quiet street where the Franz Ferdinand Hostel is, everything is close at hand. The street directs you to the main pedestrian zone. The most popular gathering places, clubs and restaurants in the city, are in the street right across it. The old part of the city, Baščaršija, is only a couple of minutes walking distance away from our hostel, and the distance is approximately the same to the center of the Sarajevo festivals, by which the city became well known in the after the war period. If you want to see all the landmarks of the city, which we cordially recommend, from the Franz Ferdinand Hostel, you can take a short walk to most of them.

This was a very cheap and centrally located option. It didn't feel much like a hostel. I paid for a private room and it came with my own bathroom, so it felt more like a hotel, or an apartment. It was fine though. Very comfortable. Some wifi outages in my room, but it mostly worked. Hot water, comfy bed, TV. not breakfast, but there was a kitchen that I used to make coffee.

A wonderful place to stay. The staff and fellow guests here make this one of the friendliest hostels I have ever stayed in. I really enjoyed chatting with some wonderful people while I was here. It's a great place for relaxing, with an arty vibe all around and quiet, comfortable common areas. I had a private room upstairs which had an interesting design (chairs under a raised bunk bed). The hostel is also right next to the main pedestrian lane in Sarajevo, and easy to walk everywhere in the old town. Tram stops are just a minute or two away as well. Definitely stay here!

Everything about this place was great - the location is quite literally right next to Baščaršija, and a 5 or so minute walk to a currency exchange.
Place is clean, and staff are extremely personable. For the price it's exactly what you're looking for.

We stayed here for 3 nights and since there were so many of us we took more rooms. These are small and with little support, very rough cleaning, dust everywhere, sticky floors and stained sheets and towels. Presence of insects. Absence of shutters and too thin curtains, so at dawn you wake up to the light. Bathroom showers broken and malfunctioning. One night someone tried to enter our room several times. Not to mention the "historical" setting with blow-ups of the war, right up to the ceiling. Unsettling. The only advantage is the very central location, but it does not justify the high price. No parking nearby

Awesome secured hostel located in a quiet area not far from the Baščaršija. Main bus and train station are about 30 minutes walk but you can aways get a tram. Big size lockers which can easily fit a full size suit case. Restaurants and supermarkets close by. Staff always helpful

Awesome experience! Amra was so helpful and even woke up at 4:30am to call me a taxi to the airport so I didn’t get scammed. The people at the hostel were also super nice, and the location is amazing. Overall would definitely recommend this hostel for Sarajevo!

The hostel is really clean and very well run, which is always nice. The staff are incredible people. Amra, Rebeka and the soul of Franz Ferdinand, Svjetlana keep this place running and make it one of the best hostels in the balkans. The atmosphere is one of work during the day and social activities at night.

Perfect location in the centre of old town near the bus stop and 15 minutes from the new town on foot. It was clean and comfortable. Svetlana and the other staff helped us with everything. If you consider booking a hostel, you need to book this one, highly recommend!

Perfectly located to explore the city and jump on tram#3 to the bus and the train station. Spotlessly clean room, bathrooms, and public areas. Lovely welcome from Svetlana, who was always helpful and happy. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

Dear Maria,
all dorms in our hostel are mixed gender. Sometimes it can happen that the dorm is booked only by female guests but it isn't something we can guarantee.
Kind regards,

Hello Edita,
Thank you for contacting us. We don't have parking in front of the hostel which we can call private, but we send all our guests to a parking 100m from the hostel, which is well secured and safe.
