Villa Tafaj is one of the first private hotels present in Albania. The building itself dates from the years 1920s, which belonged to one of the oldest families of the capital, the TAFAJ family. The family business, which was first opened on 22 March 1991 in the form of a tavern, offered traditional Albanian cuisine. Later on, the business expanded and welcomed the first foreign visitors who came in Albania. Since then, the business continues the tradition of welcoming. Today the business not only offers traditional and Mediterranean cuisine of the restaurant, but it also offers the facilities of its own bar, pizzeria, relaxing garden, conference room and a 25 room hotel. The warm hospitality, professional service, administration of the TAFAJ family itself and the combination of the classic with the traditional are signature characteristics of this family run business.

Detailed Reviews
Spent 3 nights here
Very well situated, barely 5 mins walk from main square, 10 mins from airport bus stop
Friendly staff
Something of a warren inside, and no fire escape instructions in room
Our twin room was 1st floor front with two large windows. Traffic a bit noisy
Large wardrobe but full of bedding
Safe didn't work
Bathroom shower fine. Sink plug did not work. Plenty of hot water
Bed firm but comfortable
Room smelt whenever we returned to it unless we left windows open/bathroom blower on
Breakfast fairly typical Eastern Europe continental ie meat, salad, cheese. 2 cereals, some warm options, orange juice which was almost juice rather than squash.
Breakfast disappointments - City is stuffed with wonderful bakeries but the only bread was soul-less white sliced pulp, and there were cellophane wrapped jam/chocolate sponges but no croissants or suchlike. "Management supplied photo" shows a tier of fresh fruit but in reality none provided despite all the lovely shops nearby
They don't tell you but there is a covered outside eating area beyond the breakfast room which is a more pleasant place to eat in
Fridge in room
TV but no international channels
I had tremendous problems with WiFi - weal signal, flaky connection though others seemed to be OK.

Some features of the hotel's location were good: quiet neighborhood, close to Skanderbeg Square and close to mini-markets for bottled water and snacks. However, other than the hotel's restaurant, there was nowhere close by to eat. (The hotel's food was adequate but unimaginative.)
The "geography"/architecture of the hotel was very strange: lots of separate buildings haphazardly joined together with little passageways and interminable steps!
My room was very small, up in the attic with a sloping walls and not a proper window' that overlooked other sections of roof. The curtain was gauze that couldn't close (sloping wall).
Pros: clean, quiet, AC worked well, shower was hot and powerful
Cons: difficult to locate central light switch, no switch for bedside light (I had to carry the desk light to my bedside). And breakfast was not good: only white bread, eggs premade so solid and oily, no fruit, no self-service coffee/tea so you had to go to another counter to order it so it took quite some time.
Staff friendly and helpful.

This is a really good value option in a capital city that is building lots of high-end hotels. My room was a single room but not too small with a private bathroom. The decor was a little tired at that price, I found it more than acceptable. The staff were incredibly friendly with excellent English and couldn't be more helpful with advice and eg. booking a taxi. The location is excellent, less than 10 minutes to Skanderbeg Square and everything that has to offer. Breakfast was not what I'm used to - but it gave me something to eat to start the day.
For the price, this hotel is MORE than you'd expect to get.
I did struggle to find it from the address (and Google maps!) - check carefully so you don't walk too far.

This was the group hotel for two nights. It is well located in a rather quiet neighbourhood, some 6-7M from Skanderbeg Square. I get the impression it was converted from an upper class home re the layout. Check in was efficient, a complimentary bottle of water welcome. My single room was expectedly small ie with no place to put the luggage, you adapt. The a/c was very good. The bathroom was fine, including soap and shampoo. No coffee making facilities were available. Wifi signal was excellent. Not a big concern but I could hear the shower next door. There is a small safe in the room. Happy to have a firm mattress. The breakfast was very good. You got your java from the bar and there was a buffet with ample enough choice. It’s a solid choice if staying in the capital.

I love this place. Well situated, in the heart of Tirana, but without being too noisy. Clean rooms, friendly staff, excellent service. The food of the restaurant is also amazing. Keep up the good work guys!!

This hotel has the best location. Lots of restaurants all within in easy walking distance. Very convenient for the main square which is also just a short walk. The breakfast is superb. The reception staff are adorable. Always helpful and a friendly greeting. I didn't have to tell them my room number. They always remembered) I would recommend this hotel

I stayed here for just one night. The location is very good. Five minute walk from the center of the city. Additionally, if you need to arrange further travel, you have only a few blocks to walk to get to all of the travel agencies.
The hotel. Reception is very nice and on a scale of 1/10 for helpfulness I'd put it at a seven.
The villa the hotel is in is lovely. Italian architecture, very attractive.
My room was situated in the back and unfortunately I had only a view of the wall of another building about six feet away. That written, it's readily apparent that most of the rooms at Tafaj come with very good views - so ask for one when you make your reservation and I'm sure you'll be delighted.
My room was very clean. The bed was big and comfortable. The bathroom was nice with a very good shower and plenty space. Good towels, soap, and lighting.
The AC unit was new and worked beautifully. The TV had plenty of channels to choose from. There was also a mini bar - the contents of which are free - a couple of sodas, a bar of chocolate, and two bottles of water. A good perk.
Breakfast and the garden outside where you eat it completely make this place. The garden is wonderful. Guinea fowl roam about, there are caged parakeets, parrots, lovebirds and finches as well. There's a turtle on the loose, a rabbit and a dog too! No worries - the entire area is spotlessly clean and perfectly kept and the animals are clearly well cared for and loved by their owner. It was unbelievably delightful to eat breakfast amid all the bird chirping.
Speaking of breakfast, it was likewise spot on. Your choice of eggs, sausages, fresh breads and cheese/jams and of course juice and coffee. Very good.
Your money goes a very long way here. A very good place. Just be sure to ask for a room with a view of the garden or even street.
I recommend it.

It was my first visit to Tirana (and Albania) and I intentionally sought out a hotel that would have the atmosphere of the place. This hotel met and exceeded this expectation. Further, as I surveyed other hotels while here I realised how lucky I was to have picked the one with local character, as the others I saw where generic and unimpressive.
The room was simple and adequate, the TV had a directory of circa 1,000 satellite channels; the difficulty was finding those with a signal and worth watching.
The restaurant and café was simple and the food adequate. The menu was extensive with local and foreign foods. Though frankly, there were much better places to eat in the vicinity.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I had reception organise a taxi to return to the airport, and the restaurant staff not knowing this quickly came to me when they saw me departing to make sure I wasn’t going to be ripped off by the driver. I was impressed.
The hotel is central and well located to the main square. I will definitely stay here again when I’m next in town.

I stayed one night here, and had a great experience. Will absolutely stay here again, when in Tirana. The hotel is just off the main square, in a small side-street. The building is charming, my room had a big balcony, and there was no wall-to-wall carpeting on the floor, just nice wooden planks.
The people who worked there were friendly, my luggage was carried up one floor, and breakfast was a nice experience of its own: I sat in the patio on the backside, there were a lot of flowers and plants, and perhaps 15-20 bird cages hung in the patio, with birds of different kinds, singing and chirping. I loved it there. There is a breakfast menu with 6 or 7 choices.
When I left to the airport the next day, I used the taxi owned by the hotel, and it was a relief to have this security.

We stayed for only one night before heading off to the beach but quite enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very central and there were lots of restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood. Walking at night in the area felt very comfortable but I think that is true of most of Albania. Our twin room had a lovely, large balcony overlooking the street and everything was very clean. One reviewer commented on the cages out in the courtyard. There is still one raccoon and a number of birds. I'm not a big fan of wildlife in cages, but at least the cages were clean. Many people seem to have bird cages and small aviaries in Albania and if you find it very distressing you may not enjoy your holiday there.
