Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Very correct as part of a service / price / location compromise. Almost central hotel allowing you to travel on foot to discover the Capital. Clean room with very efficient air conditioning. Very small bathroom, small room when occupied by 3. Friendly reception staff. Decent breakfast without being "wow", monitoring and replenishment is not very efficient.

Fantastic staff who speak English. Very clean. Has restaurant on site that can provide some food. Try hamburger, local speciality. There is air conditioned fully stocked bar. It’s about 10 mins walk to the city centre and the surrounding area is quite poor. You’ll see rats running through the courtyard but it’s a good place for 1 night if you have a flight the next morning or arrive late in the afternoon and just need a bed for the night.

Love this place. Super comfy, super fast internet, location is good (about a 10 min walk to town), staff are so helpful and friendly (Bemilton is the best!), it also has a great upstairs terrace with a view, communal kitchen, it is very clean.
Basically, I can't think of a con!

Sweet Guesthouse on first impression looks nice. But for us it wasn’t so nice! The receptionist spoke very poor English (she would have thought it was an imperative to have some knowledge of the language when tourism is the main focus?). The room was clean but beds were soft and there was mould in the showers! It was also noisy with little sound proofing. We booked a taxi to a local restaurant in the evening. There are NO restaurants close by and they don’t serve food apart from breakfast. There was no drinking water in our rooms and in fact there was no water in the guesthouse!! I had to walk 200 metres to get water!!! The taxi (the one the guesthouse uses) charged us $20 each way ($5 per person) which I thought was outrageous for a five minute ride. The next morning, talking to someone who did speak English, I discovered that we had been charged at least double. The receptionist didn’t respond!!!

Terrible experience! Our room faced a closed patio where the laundry area was located. On the outside wall, right next to the window, there was the air conditioning unit that ran all night, making a horrible noise that kept us awake the entire night. Additionally, we booked a room with a double bed, but they placed us in a room with twin beds. Not an experience to repeat.

The Sweet Guest House is very central since it's just a 5 minutes walk from the city centre. It's located in a very nice property with a 3 story building with parking outside. The indoors are simple, very clean and comfortable. This is a place where you can stay as if you where in your own house. You can use the kitchen and the living room area which are also connected to a lovely porch with a view over the urban surroundings where you can relax. The relation price-quality of this guest house is the best. But the real uniqueness of this place is it's wonderful staff. It's owner Edner and his partner Jandira are the nicest, friendly, honest and most cooperative people! They will welcome you and help you with whatever you need: great tips of what do to or where to go and also arrange you a good guide and rental car. I miss Sao Tome and I miss them!

I spent 7 days in this great guesthouse! The manager is a genial host. Solved for me a lot of trouble with the airline, showed me the best restaurants, helped to rent a car...etc etc The rooms are perfectly clean, have ac, and if you like, you can get one with own bathroom. The big balcony is a good place to relax & meet throughout day and night. The kitchen has everything you need, if you like to cook sth. for your own. Wifi connection is fast and was available in both rooms I had. Nothing to complain - I was definitely satisfied throughout my stay. Obrigado!

We spent our first night in Sao Tome here. The guest house was very simple, but OK for a night. The best thing about the place was the people there; they were all so very nice & helpful. There was a sense of community in the guest house.
We had a small, clean room with a comfortable bed. The room was air-conditioned and we could easily tolerate the heat & humidity.
In the living area, there was a community kitchen and a fridge where one could cook and preserve the food if one stayed for a longer time.
The breakfast was not included, but one could have a good breakfast if one let them know ahead of time. We did not know about this and did not say anything about breakfast, but we were able to have a basic breakfast, They charged us less because we did not have cheese & ham etc.
The only thing terrible was the drilling going on right under our room. They were doing some construction to finish another section of the guest house. It was pure torture. I had ear plugs the entire time and even with them it was very very loud. I know people have to make noise when they construct or do repairs, but I felt we were on vacation and we did not have to tolerate it because the accommodation was not free of charge.
All in all, the guest house was fine. If we come back we will call ahead of time to see if there would be any noise.

I was in Room 209. It has a large bed, table and chair, AC, and power sockets conveniently located next to the bed. There is no TV. The bathroom has a shower (no bath), only liquid soap (no bar soap) and no hair dryer. While the room does not have a fridge, there is a common area - living room, kitchen and balcony - so you can store things in the communal fridge. My room was on the upper floor with a hallway/balcony outside. Sometimes I had to wiggle the key a bit to open the door to my room. The Wi-Fi password shown on the information card in the room was not quite right (had to add a ‘’1’’ to the end if using the main Wi-Fi network, but, as written, it worked for one of the other networks).
The staff here are very helpful. For example, one evening one of the lights started flickering in my room, which was very annoying. When I mentioned it to reception, they came over quickly to replace the bulb.
You’re not near restaurants, so bring food back with you in the evening or take a taxi to get there. There is a very small minimart right across the road if you’re desperate for food or drink. There is a security guard at the front gate.

Beaches ?? In Sao Tome city... just avoid!
And if you look for beaches, choose another more 'touristic' destination or just stay in one of the few luxury resorts (bunker or ghetto?).

SGH is 3 km from the airport and 300 meters from the center of the capital (S. Tome). Your will find around, bar, restaurants, markets, shops, all services you need and are always available to help you with what you need.
