I would really rate this hotel as 3.5 star so slightly above the overall rating. The entrance is a beautiful example of the Colonial style so is the main part of the building. The extension to the hotel does not deliver the same grandeur. It is in the style of a typical commercial hotel. Firstly we would like to praise the reception staff and Manager who were charming, polite and helpful. 5 star treatment. The housekeeping left a different impression. Our room was not attended to until very late in the afternoon, between 4 and 5pm, and the replenishment was a bit hit and miss. On two occasions we made our own beds. On the last night after mentioning this to reception staff we had a turn down service. The newspapers which I left in a pile to be collected were still there on day 4! The bathroom consisted of a glass walled cube which amplified any toilet noise and gave no feeling of privacy. The shower fitting is cheap and to be honest not fit for purpose. The shower area is far too large and the floor never seemed to dry. The bedroom furniture was a bit shabby in parts. The beds however were very comfortable. The breakfast was a disappointing experience.The whole layout in the dining area just does not flow. You literally had to discover what was where. The selection was good but the quality fairly average. The staff tried their best and were always friendly and helpful. The bar and bar food is very overpriced and to be honest the atmosphere was not conducive to spending any time there. It was very dull. A little music or entertainment would encourage people to mix and mingle. There was a fashion show on whilst we were staying. It was an interesting evening but without that event we would have had a boring Saturday night. Regrettably we would not recommend GPH as a 5 star hotel unless the above issues were addressed.

We had stayed less the two years before and had had a great time. We did at that time have a Heritage room but it was unavailable this time as was full. The pacific climate change meeting had the place pretty well booked out. The place was full of PM’s and the general secretary of the UN. Unfortunately this left us with a room while large had a very old and uncomfortable bed and staff walking up and down all times of day and night outside. Seemed you don’t want to be a guest when they are full with world leaders. Considering it’s reputation the breakfast was ordinary and the eggs Benedict was just awful. Ok so next night dinner on the Varanda. Great setting overlooking the pool but the foot was very average. To their credit they took both items off the bill and gave us deserts. I would have preferred the mains to have been as described. Unfortunately it seems you have to pay for a premium room to really enjoy the GPH. Very disappointed this time.

My colleague and I arrived late one evening and only realised as we were checking in that we got our dates wrong and the hotel was expecting us a day later. The front desk staff were amazing and somehow wrangled us a room each despite our mistake. Thanks to the hotel’s flexibility we were also able to order a late meal and cool drinks in the lovely terrace restaurant at the back overlooking the pool. The hotel itself is very centrally located on the main drag and is beautifully restored with wonderful artefacts about its colonial history and photos of all its famous guests. It is right on the waterfront with the restaurant and many of the rooms on the new block facing the pool and sea. I had a ground floor room facing the pool which was very clean and spacious. The bathroom appeared to be recently renovated, however it did not have a bath just a very large shower which wet most of the floor despite my efforts for it not to and posed a slip risk. The Fiji toiletry products were lovely. Unfortunately, my room seem to be next to the central point where all the cleaning staff gathered to plan their day and talk on their breaks. At at times this did kept me awake when I was trying to sleep in to manage jet lag, and I don’t want to get them into trouble but it did impact on the comfort of my stay. The other downside to facing the pool, is that frequently people stayed up late partying by the pool, which also kept me awake until midnight. The breakfast buff a was delicious and the staff very friendly. I had eggs to order each morning which were done efficiently and well. The fresh fruit available was lovely. Coffee was average. Overall I was very impressed with this hotel and I thought I had brought all the flavour of Fiji with some colonial history. The staff were absolutely lovely and should be commended for their excellent service. I would definitely stay here again.

It feels so amazing the moment you enter Grand Pacific Hotel. Rich in history, the architecture of this hotel, and the vibes inside, takes you back to the colonial days of grandeur. Absolutely mesmerising! The location of the hotel is superb, situated along one of the best strips of Suva, and having beautiful views of the sea behind. Most of the staff are super polite and accommodating! The backyard overlooks the sea, and hosts the restaurant, the pool and the bar. It is an amazing feeling to spend the evenings here, specially during the sunset, just relaxing, having food and a few drinks. Dinner was amazing, and much better than what we expected it to be. The hotel itself is wow, but the rooms are mediocre, specially considering the price you are paying. We booked a ‘park view’ room, but there is no view of the park. The bedroom was large enough, but nothing wow about the room, just normal, and was disappointing to be honest. The washroom had Pure Fiji products, which should really be appreciated! The major disappointment was the breakfast buffet, which was a huge letdown. There were not enough options as you would expect from a hotel of this class. And of what was available, the quality was not good enough. And to make it worse, there were ants in some of the dishes. Its sad that none of the restaurant staff actually paid any attention to keep them away (cover the food / change the food / pest control maybe?) The GPH is definitely worth trying, to experience its colonial charm, but I am not sure if it is really worth the money. They can do much better, if they really want to be an icon of the South Pacific, specially focussing on improving their breakfast, and making the bedrooms richer in detail.
