On arrival we were told that wi-fi was only accessible in the lounge but not in the rooms. So we were highly disappointed as we needed to communicate with family abroad. Initially our room was still being cleaned so we were given an alternative room which we did not expect. Food was not up to standard: menu was quite limited and pricey. What stood out was that the staff was absolutely awesome and accommodating. A beautiful and peaceful place to stay.

It’s our first visit to Fiji & we were glad we chose Tambua Sands. Stayed there for 5 nights. There were maybe 2 other groups of guests when we were there so it was peaceful. The staff were attentive especially Tui who planned interesting activities for us such as leave weaving, a hike to the nearby hill & conducted a kava ceremony. He also regaled us with interesting stories on Fiji. We booked 2 seaside bures & while quite a number of bures were being renovated, there was no noise. The bures we had were not renovated yet so there some issues like the window louvres that were not working & the kids bure had a leaky fridge. Minor issues to us. The coral at the beach was simply amazing. At low tide, you can see them all without snorkelling. Lots of sea cucumbers (which ppl may mistake for a snake as it stretchs itself) & starfish. Hubby & my 3 adult kids also went out kayaking. Kayak use is complimentary. Breakfast was fresh fruits and toasts, which were enough for us & there were enough variety for dinner. It is far from Nadi but we drove so it was no issue. Will definitely come back if we come to Fiji again.

Good Bure, spacious and comfortable. Location is good for those seeking a smaller more natural place to stay instead of a flop and drop mega resort. Poor restaurant offerings and decor. Management need to let the chef take more ownership with their menu and introduce specials and variety. Make the menu smaller but better quality. Interior area is dated and sad, a bit of effort and the bar and dining area could be more inviting and make the experience much better. Shout out to the team making do with limited resource - especially Ariette (Little Mau who was super friendly and even invited us for a local village experience) and Tui for giving us good insight about life in Fiji

Sadly Tambua Sands has run down (they're currently renovating their Bure's - read lots of construction noise which we werent told about at time of booking), but that doesn't excuse the Restaurant or reception area. New management has changed this to Adults only, but they have a long way to go. The good - the staff are friendly and helpful and the beach is lovely, rooms were kept clean and tidy. Beach was nice. The coral was amazing if you went to the right places (straight out from the beach and go left!). The bad - starting with the TripAdvisor photos, don't let them fool you. There is shade only from two coconuts around the pool, no more shade huts. The rest of the planting has stripped back. The nice reception area has been replace by a couple of standard desks, about the only thing that remains is the Kava bowl. The kayaks were in working but poor condition, the remaining two hammocks were torn although usable. Then we get to the restaurant. Most of the guests ate out (a FJ$ 60 or more taxi ride away). The meals had not moved on from "Family Friendly". Dinners - your choices were limited to Fast foods (Burgers, Chips, Deep Fried foods, Pizza, Curry or a Steak. A vegan/vegetarian would have starved. Breakfast was terrible; "included" was a plate of fresh fruit, coffee and toast. Everything else was extra. Quality of that was variable... we had undercooked pancakes one morning, raw French toast the next, and the last straw was an over-salted inedible omelette each the next. The Bar was minimal, back to basics and FJ$24 a cocktail for lolly water. Recommend going to Sigatoka and buying a box of beer from there. Sitar or the Crab Shack were our favourite places to eat - near the outrigger hotel.

Am so reluctant to write this review because I want to keep this place to myself. Have just had a wonderful 5 nights stay here. We had an ocean front bure with a lap pool. Was absolutely beautiful. Hardly anyone at the resort. Just so serene . S taff amazingly friendly and could not do enough for us. Food was great. Nothing fancy but high class and fresh. Loved the chicken curry. There are extensive renovations going on and only 10 bures are currently usable but it did not detract from how they have improved the resort. I used to stay there over 30 years ago with my parents and it was pretty basic. Can't say enough good things about the accommodation food drinks and staff. We had a car so we did tour a bit. Bavari souvenirs walking distance and they do also do light meals. Maui Bay 5mins drive away has a supermarket with essentials and I didn't think any dearer than Nadi. If you want laid on activities this is not the place for you. If you just want to relax it is just right. No tv and only wifi in reception area. We were more than happy with that. Will soon be adults only as well.

So I wanted a beach front bure / bungalow to myself for a relaxing trip alone, I didn't want too many people, or kids running around, just a beach front, a book and a drink. This resort provides it all. I was in one of the beach front bungalows, had a king bed with two singles, fridge, nice bathroom, air con, and I had the pleasure of the island cat living next door to me. There is a restaurant on site - see photos of the menu, nothing overly fancy but any of the local fish was amazing. I went to the Warwick fish restaurant one night, they were not a patch on the Tambua Sands (and my god that resort was packed! and so commercialised)! The beach is surrounded by a coral lagoon, so not really a swimming spot, but good for kayaking at high tide and snorkelling at low, and if you don't swim you can paddle in and see a lot of action anyway. I recommend taking coral shoes. The pool was shut when I was there, so if that is important to you, check before going. And another reviewer is correct , tripadvisor is incorrect, there are no restaurants in walking distance, so if you want to visit another resort you will need to hire the town car. The only downside items for me were the length of time to the airport, adds a bit on your trip but what a lovely location and ... they didn't restock the wine whist I was there, so no sparkling and then the sav ran out - first world problems. Not sure why they didn't nip to the liquor store, haha - anyway the lesson is if you like a certain wine either pack it or buy at the airport or get the driver to stop at the liquor store and stock up on your way! If you like snacks e.g. chips / crisps, I would bring them too as there is no where to buy them in the resort. The staff are absolutely amazing and will bend over backwards to help you, they can sort you trips to the waterfalls, snorkelling, mountains etc OR like me, they will just leave you to chill out. There is a shop 10 mins drive or so away that does coffee, beer, food and locally made souvenirs - I would recommend that - and the driver will take you there. If you can get the plunge pool villas I would, then you have the option for a dip right in front of your home! I had the continental breakfast included but I often just went with a cooked option. Overall I loved my stay, it was exactly what I wanted. The staff and the view are amazing.

We were looking for somewhere quiet and warm and Tambua Sands was just the ticket. By no means a 5 star resort, but we like a place that has character and let's us do as much, or as little, as we liked. The burre had a king bed and 2 singles, air con and fans, adequate bathroom with shower and a front verandah to sit and take in the ocean view. The beach really does have a belt of golden sand and is literally 30 metres from your doorstep. The water was just right for swimming and snorkeling and there's plenty to see as soon as you put your head underwater. Brilliant fish, starfish and some weird looking snake slugs that aren't dangerous, but look like something out of a sci-fi movie. There's better snorkeling just down the road and a local from the nearby village will show you the sights for a reasonable fee. The resort provides kayaks for exploring too. My wife enjoyed many hours walking up and down the beach finding shells and coral that we brought home (it's okay to just take a couple of bits). She even walked out to the edge of the reef break when the tide was really low, getting plenty of great photos, including one of a giant clam and a bright red starfish. The main building has a restaurant and bar and whilst the menu is limited there was enough variety to enjoy something different for each of the 11 days we stayed. I can eat, but the large pizza stopped me before I was halfway through. They just put the remainder in a pizza box and I put it in the bar fridge in the room for lunch next day. The continental breakfast included fruit plate, juice, cereal, coffee and toast so lunch was often not needed. We even scored their homemade pancakes one morning! The staff are great and super friendly. They always greeted us with a smile and a bula and were very helpful. Tui loved to show us his culture, giving us a kava experience that included a history of Fiji that started in Africa. Don't miss out on his coconut demonstration because he turns it into the most delicious grilled dessert. Louisa runs the main desk and helped me expand my vocabulary and the locals seemed to appreciate my attempts at Fijian phrases. On the morning of our departure about a dozen of them gathered to sing us a farewell song and give us a hug, a genuine feel-good experience. There was internet in the main building and when we arrived at the airport I bought a $30 SIM for my phone that gave us 125 gigs plus phone calls and texts. I left the hotspot on most days and we had no trouble connecting and still had 114 gigs left when we went to fly home. We'd been to Fiji before and done most of the touristy things, but a few hours at the Kula ecopark was well worth the price of entry. All in all, a great place to visit. Vinaka vetilevu!

Be careful when you book Tambua Sands resort! Only half of the bures are finished renovations and we were double booked! Had booked a lovey Bure with plunge pool as we don’t really like large resorts! Was perfect although trip advisor indicated that there are a number of restaurants within walking distance?? This is not the case! One restaurant on site with limited menu. Still would have been happy to stay there but after 3 days as they were overbooked agreed to move to the Warwick resort. Bad decision! Oops! Next day Warwick has no vacancy to have to move to Naviti resort. It is 4 star but has hundreds of people staying, many in family groups! There goes our quiet stay. When we asked about compensation was told this was a 4 star resort!! Not in my book!! Has turned what should have been a nice first time in Fiji , into I won’t be back!!! First five pics Tambua sands, last few our current residence

We loved our 9 day stay at Tambua Sands Beach Resort in July. We were looking for a relaxing holiday by the beach and Tambua Sands exceeded expectations, going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the waves. It was quiet as an adults only resort and the staff were all wonderful and friendly taking care of us during our stay. A special thank you to Tui who was a great storyteller and answered our many questions about Fijian life. The beachfront bures were well appointed and spacious with comfortable bed and chairs. The beach is sheltered with a coral reef ring further out to break the waves of the Pacific ocean allowing for great reef walking at low tide and kayaking at high tide. The resort is a little distance from the nearby towns of Sigatoka and Maui Bay. The staff were able to organise a taxi / private transport anytime. Sigatoka the larger town of the two is normally a short drive, but during our stay there were many roadworks making it a longer journey than normal. Therefore during our visit Maui Bay was the preferred option with a supermarket and cafes available, however we rarely left the resort as they prepared decent meals. A special word of thanks to Hideaway Holidays in Australia (booking agent) who really looked after every small detail and everything was done as promised on time.
