The Hotel has a good location in the center, clean rooms, no noise. The small entrance at the reception does not favor the good work done by the employees who are there. The breakfast is good, and the proximity of the Hotel to a great restaurant on a cross street and others also nearby helps a lot. The point to ask for improvement is in the attitude of the hotel management. We were in Montevideo for the final match of the Copa Libertadores. Our return flight was delayed by one day, which forced us to stay one more night in the city. We asked to extend the reservation by one night, but the management said they would only do it with the payment of 1,000 USD. It is worth mentioning that the hotel's normal rate does not exceed 200 USD. We even offered 500 USD, offer not accepted. We had to look for another accommodation, the hotel was left with an empty unit and caused a bad memory for the guest.…
Walking distance of the old town, quiet, efficient checkin, good buffet breakfast, modern (smallish) rooms, elevator, super-clean. Bus to Tres Cruces a block away in case you want to go to Colonia - or elsewhere long distance. Taxi rank close. The refrigerator contains expensive water, topped up each day, for which you are billed on checkout. Tap water is ok to drink or you can buy your own at a nearby store. Recommend if you are staying in Montevideo for a few nights - we managed to see museums, sites etc in 2 days and then took the bus to Colonia for a day.
This property is a true bargain and would cost quadruple in any other city. Modern rooms with hundreds of TV and audio channels available feature personal safes, individually controlled heat, and unbelievably clean floors and bathrooms (I walked barefoot to test that--feet stayed clean!). The bed was a marshmallow mattress, true, but I still slept soundly due to the quiet and comfortable temperatures. Breakfast is served every morning from 7 to 10:30 AM, a very reasonable time frame. Although the usual items are included--cold cuts, cheese, bread, croissants, spreads, etc.--this hotel makes it extra special by including not only toasters but also individual sandwich makers! On those chilly winter mornings, it is heaven to be able to make a grilled ham and cheese sandwich (or two!) in just a few minutes. There are also yogurt drinks, juices, cereal, and corn bread available. Dining room is spacious and it is all you can eat. There are elevators, a spacious lobby, a water cooler, and 24/7 front desk service. While all the staff were efficient, I want to mention that Gabriel was particularly professional and helpful and made my stay there a special one. The location is right in the middle of the central area of Montevideo, very safe and walkable to all tourist attractions. I definitely recommend this property to other travelers and would stay here again myself the next time I am in Montevideo.…
The hotel is showing its age a little, but everything was clean and peaceful. I asked for a quiet room and got 206, which is at the end of a hallway facing a drab interior airspace... there was zero view but that didn't matter to me. The breakfast buffet has meats, cheeses and tomatoes that you can make into a sandwich -- which is an easy way to get protein. There were also several kinds of yogurt drinks, milk, cereal, fruit and coffee (but no tea). The location is great, right in the middle of a nice and central part of town. My room had a fridge with little bottles of expensive water, but there are stores nearby to buy your own -- and the tap water seems fine to drink. I paid $29 US per night, which felt like a good deal. I'd come back.
The location is half a block from the main avenue leading to the old town and port market. It's easy walking to all sorts of places. The staff were good and helpful with answers to all our questions. The breakfast is reasonable and our room was spotless. Not a whole lot of space but very good value for the price. And there's a taxi rank half a block away if you don't like walking.
I entered the lobby with my loaded $2000.00 touring bicycle which was seen by front desk staff. Not until I made and confirmed a reservation was I told that I could not take it into my room and that there was no secure place for it, only in an off site vehicle parking garage and out of site from security. They would NOT refund my payment. Watch your back in this place!!!!
The Hotel America was a pleasant choice in Montevideo. Chosen by it's central location and low price compared with the nearest hotels, it became a better choice than we could expect. The room were small but perfect sized for a couple and the bathroom bigger than most hotels from its category. Breakfast was very good, with lots of options in breads, medialunas, fruits. They don't carry the traditional american options as scrambled eggs and sausages and the only downsize on this matter was that the breakfast salon is not very big and got really crowded some days. The hotel is very well located, less than 1 block away from Plaza del Entrevero, walking distance from de Ciudad Vieja and had a supermarket on the same block, as well as restaurants and a Mc Donalds.
The hotel offers a very good cost-benefit ratio. Location is good, breakfast is ok and the rooms are clean. The bathroom old and the shower is tiny (really tiny). The service is not the best. They charge you for leaving your bags for a few hours after check out. They don’t allow early checkin. They don’t allow you to sit in the restaurant even though it is empty and no one is going to use it. I wouldn’t come back to this hotel.
We booked this hotel for one night for a family of 4. The room was extremely small, you could feel they cramped extra beds and the bathroom was a real dingy place. I am not sure why this place is even on the list of recommended places.
Great location near plaza independica and the port! Plenaty of resturants and cafes near by. Rooms and showers were very small! Breakfast was good. Staff spoke English. Thoroughly cleaned everyday! Room was slightly noisy!
