Los jardines colgantes de Babilonia Hostel is located in the heart of the old Town, the historic center of Montevideo, on the famous pedestrian Sarandi street. It is a completely renovated old house, it is very spacious, with high ceilings, two enclosed courtyards and an external one with barbecue. With a family atmosphere and nature inspired decoration we create for our guests an ideal place to relax and fully enjoy their stay in Montevideo.
If you are paying hostel prices this would be ok, but we paid $80 per night for a private room that was both dated and had not been properly cleaned. The manager was unfriendly and gave us no information about the city. The location of the hostel is also not great in that the old town in March was deserted and the only people around seem to be high on drugs/booze. It felt like the part of the city that had been left behind and did not feel safe. The next day we checked into a 4 star hotel in a different area of the city for $20 less. This hostel needs to up its game.

I stayed for one night given its proximity to the port. The facilities are excellent: beds are large, rooms are comfortable, bathrooms offer hot water and constant shower pressure. Kitchen facilities are modern and ample in both supplies and equipment. WiFi was fast in common areas. Breakfast was large, filling, and delicious. What really made the Hostel a great place to stay was the staff. They were all extremely helpful and beyond welcoming and hospitable. I wish I could have stayed longer to explore the area. Would highly recommend staying here when in Montevideo.

We stayed at this hostel in July when the weather could be pretty cold and rainy at times. The owners who you will get to know and love, will treat you like family. They were more than happy to let us borrow umbrellas when the rains came and even allowed us to pull up chairs to the fireplace that is constantly burning in the winter. We were given advice on the best places to eat and visit. Diego, one of the amazing workers, even baked delicious empandas for the birthday of one of the guests. You will not be disappointed by your stay in this fantastic place.

We booked for 2 nights and ended up extending our stay here because we liked it so much. The staff were extremely helpful and lovely, nothing was ever too much trouble and they were great at providing tips of where to go and what to do in town. They also helped to arrange bikes for us to better explore the city, which was a highlight. The facilities were wonderful (the kitchen is well stocked which is always appreciated) and the location was great, right in the middle of the old town (cuidad vieja) and a 5 minute walk from Plaza Independencía. We really enjoyed our time here.

Such a great hostel! Everything is absolutely clean, the dorms are for few people, the ambient is really nice and the staff é sooo kind. Love this place, had a great time there. It is located right at Sarandi street, the main street in the Ciudad Vieja, really close to the local market, museums, cafes and other touristical spots.

We stayed here for one night only but we found this place very good. Location is right in the centre of old town. The owner is also the receptionist and therefore he is always here to help and give the best he can. High ceilings is one of the best things here. Everything is clean. Kitchen is fully equipped and big enough to cook the meal comfortably. We stayed in the 2-person dormitory room and we found it very good. Breakfast is good and more than enough as well. The only thing that I can think of is the toilet (separated by gender) has no lock but this is a minor problem for us.

Extremely flexible and friendly owner of the hostel was kind enough to make last-minute changes for us, causing him to having to move his friend from a room to another. Place is basic, ok kitchen, room and bed was okay. Just stayed one night, arriving late and leaving early, but we got exactly what we needed. The owner has a parking garage right next to the hostel, if you happen to need it.

We had the double room with private bathroom wich is located upstairs. The wind could blow through the window screens and it was lovely cool. We didnot need the airco. Good matrasses and very quite at night. Simple but good. We came from Buenos Aires by boat and could walk easily from the ferry terminal to this hostel, in Calle Sarandi. Also in Sarandi number 460 is Estrecho, a great restaurant to have lunch, open from monday till friday. Great food!

Small room without windows, very dirty with cockroaches running around in the bathroom, quite noisy at night, breakfast not good at all, location in the old town not good for going out and neighbourhood not really safe at night... So in case you really want to go to Montevideo, then NOT in this hostel...
