Beautiful historic hotel in a good location. Staff was nice and helpful. Rooms were clean, just a little dated. Beds were comfortable. The water closet is on the other side of where the shower is, so that was interesting. Shower pressure is great, but the way it’s shaped the floor got pretty wet every time. Getting a nice window view at the back of the hotel is optimal as there will be something to see in the day and evening. Great thing about the hotel is the awesome location. You are in front of the riverside, but in the back of the hotel you are in walking distance to tons of great shops and restaurants. The area feels safe and the walk is easy to tons of stores.
I've just arrived at Sofitel Montevideo, after a 15h trip. I was very happy to go to Sofitel as i thought after a long trip, i'd feel like home. I'm a GOLD Member in the loyalty program because i'm loyal to that brand. They gave a me a room that is clearly not at the standard of what one would expect. Localtion and view are bad... and for a 1st time in Montevideo i was expecting a better experience. So i knidly call reception to ask for a room change. I've been a Gold member for a while, and i've always been treated really well. They usually try everything they can to give you satisfaction. This time is the total opposite!! The person i got at the reception told me there were no other room available. I then asked him if the hotel was full, he told me no. I thus ask why i couldn't change room. He told me that there were no other room ready. It's 9am, i guess there is some roomkeeping staff around that he could send to have a room ready. His only answer was to tell me very sharply that there will be no room available for me before 3pm!! That's definitly not the kind of service you expect from a hotel that belong to a chain that you're very loyal to. That's not acceptable for me anyway. What's the point of being loyal if you're treated so poorly....?…
me and my husband stayed there for a night and absolutely loved it. the room was so Clean and modern. staff was super helpful and amazing, and helped us plan our day. the balcony bar and restaurant is also very yummy. I would stay here again next time I am in Uruguay. also, the area outside the hotel is very posh and fancy, full of restaraurants and cafes. it is in close proximity to the beach. perfect hotel.
If you enjoy interior design, here's the eye candy inside the Sofitel in Uruguay. French meets modern plus cascades of light. Horses in the hallway, why not? Crooked chandeliers inches above glass coffee table, check. Gorgeous beach view, ditto. We spent 1 month prior in Buenos Aires before taking the ferry to Montevideo. Night and day. It's sophisticated with an abundance of seafood in Montevideo. The Sofitel is a throwback to gracious elegance with refined service, thoughtfully presented rooms, and restaurants. There are fabulous restaurants within walking distance. Miles of walking on the paved beach promenade. In March it's quite windy but delightful windsurfers to enjoy. We don't gamble so I can't comment on the casino. Fabulous stay.
We stayed here for 3 nights right before the Covid lockdown. The hotel is grand, exquisitely decorated and well situated in a beautiful part of the city. In walking distance there are several bars and shops. Rooms are well equipped and spacious with luxurious beds and showers. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety and options for versatile diet needs. I used the gym twice- a fairly good size for a hotel. The best part of this place was an exceptional service! Attentive and friendly staff was always ready to help with all questions. Must stay here!
We stayed in a luxury suit but at a discounted price because it was on the side of the building under restoration, under construction. Everything was lovely, especially the staff, the mattress was heaven and the amenities were wonderful, including lotion and a loofah sponge I took home. Got a massage there, highly recommend their spa. Didn't use any of the pools but they looked beautiful. Rented bikes, beach across the street. great restaurants in the area, some local shops, including a consignment/secondhand shop where I found a thrift treasure and a grocery store where I picked up some mate recommended by the cashier. We didn't really use the casino except the cash machine in an emergency. I'm sure there are non-electronic casino games besides the video game slot machines but I didn't see any around... all the people looked sad, glassy-eyed and when lit by the blue screen a bit like zombies, not an inviting atmosphere.…
Too bad it is only average. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were average and bathroom was not laid out very well. Service was poor as our room was not made up one day. A/C system was on and off.
Only ½ hour away from the Montevideo port you will find this great luxury hotel. Amazing Building! Since the check in you’ll fall in love with the place, with the décor, facilities and people kindness. Our suite (Carlos Gardel) was fantastic! With a living room and ocean view. Impeccable, everything works perfectly well, with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was great everything home made with excellent service. Great options Gluten Free too! Lunch was a great surprise! The food was amazing and very well presented. All the staff have been very attentive and kind, you can feel their passion about their work. Don’t miss some of the restaurants around the area. Thank you to all the staff and congratulations to the GM! We’ll be back!!
This is a great property and the staff attention was really good. I stayed there several times and always had the same experience. Views and breakfast are the key highlights. I'd like the hotel to have a better rewards program.
Just left the hotel and I am never going back. We got a suite one hour after the check-in because a “detail” was missing. We later found out that the detail was my 7 month crib. After asking for the crib a number of times, the housekeeper called us and said that there was no crib although we had reserved and paid for two adults and two children. She later said that only in Brazil people used cribs for babies to sleep and that in Uruguay people would sleep on the same bed as their minds until they are 6 or 7 years old. We had to speak with a lot of people and took a lot of time for an apology but no crib was provided on the first day. Also, no complimentary anything or discount or nothing.
