Nice spacious and clean room. Beautiful garden. Very close to mountains. The view is fantastic. Minor complaint: not enough power outlets. In this age, most people not only have phone, but also tablet, or computers. Front door is not open, have to use the back door with dirty, unpaved street.
This is a strange place. The property is like a large monastery or hacienda, with many rooms arranged in squares overlooking open courtyards. But it does not fit in Urubamba, a small one-horse town in the Sacred Valley. The rooms are clean but basic, but avoid taking rooms on the ground floor. People from above will wake up at all sorts of hours (2 am, 4 am, 6 am) and walk noisily down the creaking wooden stairs. Say goodbye to good sleep when that happens. Breakfast is basic, the restaurant isn't great though there aren't too many options in town either. The amenities are dysfunctional - an empty pool and an in-house shop that tries too desperately to peddle its wares. If you must stay in Urubamba, perhaps this is one of the better options. But why stay in Urubamba, when Cusco is so close by?…
On the edge of town, this hotel offers simple accommodations but adds an excellent breakfast buffet, a swimming pool, and stunning gardens. There is no a/c but this was not an issue in November. Rooms and bathrooms are older and ‘well used’ but they are not out of character with the area. Breakfast featured hot items, breads and fruit with fresh local jams. Coca tea is available in the lobby as is oxygen. For shoppers there is a jewelry display and a separate textiles display with tempting items for sale. There is also a restaurant a bit up and across the street with a great lunch buffet. The hotel offers dinner.Very nice staff, some who speak English.
This seems like the hotel tourist groups stay in when visiting Machu Picchu. I could see light through the doorframe and wall, it wasn’t sealed. There were small mosquito like flies on the bed and in the shower/sink. They don’t have water bottles like other brand hotels in Cusco. They use keys and you have to push the lock button before you close the door. You probably won’t find anything better in a poor non tourist city.
Hotel itself is not bad in such a remote village with poor people’s houses outside. No central AC or heater but portable heater in the room is quite sufficient. Could be quite cold if you are in peak season for Machu Picchu in winter. Limited English speaking skills but they tried to help. Bellboy is very helpful and helped many people in our group with altitude sickness. Free oxygen at lobby but not available to each room. We had dinner at hotel’s restaurant, El Naranjachallo - their included breakfast is good but dinner is of poor quality and alpaca and chicken are both tough to eat. How can they screw up cooking chicken? This could be the most basic hotel Gate 1 arranged for this trip (all claimed to be 4 stars). Location: is good for visiting other beautiful places in Sacred valley but hotel itself is far from restaurants with good ratings.…
