I want to start by saying that we were here during the pandemic a few days before Christmas. The spa wasn't fully available but you could go into the swimming pool that's gorgeous with a reservation. Another thing is that I was here with a Friends & Family rate because of a family member that works in one of the Luxury Collection's properties. I got to Cusco on the 19th, stayed at the Palacio del Inca where we received the 5* treatment. They were expecting us at the door, I received an email two days before my arrival letting me know of the new rules. The same did not happen at El Tambo. First of all, the person who helped us make the reservations for El Tambo mistakenly put in their email instead of mine for that reservation so I didn't receive any emails pre-chech-in. When I arrived at Ollantaytambo, I saw a person waiting for another party to be taken to El Tambo. I immediately called El Tambo and talked to Maeba who never apologized or offered a solution and reminded us that we were on the Friends & Family rate and that my email wasn't there. I read other reviews in here and they also mentioned her by name. After my magical stay at the Sanctuary Lodge I was forced to confront reality when I had to talk to Maeba and hear her say repeatedly that transportation services needed to be scheduled ahead (I never received the email and that wasn't really my fault). And she honestly was just not nice at all. Once at the hotel, things improved a lot. The hotel is working with covid restrictions so it wasn't very busy but our room was just beautiful. We received an upgrade and had a terrace. We could walk to the river. The room had fruit, a lovely treat. The breakfast was really good. They bring everything to the table and you have to order so it did feel a bit wasteful when I couldn't finish a basket of bread. The juices are limited. A few years ago there were sooo many different kinds but I guess because of covid everything is more limited now. I had a great waitress, Lucy (Lucila) who recommended me things to see and do in the town and in Cusco. Walter was also very attentive. During our second day, we just heard the loudest noises coming from upstairs. I wanted to sleep in but around 8am I just kept on hearing the loudest steps going back and forth upstairs. Also sounds of doors being opened and shut. At around 11 am there were noises of furniture being moved around. It was the weirdest thing. I notified the concierge at check-out and they were very understanding and were investigating the issue. This part of the service was great. I felt heard, they offered a solution and they apologized for the noise. At check in time I was notified that we didn't need to pay for the destination fee unless we explicitly said so. Both days we were out most of the day so we couldn't really participate in any of the hotel activities. I said I would let them know. At check out this was included in the bill. For some reason I read through the expenses and noticed that this fee had been charged for both days. I said that we had not requested this. The fix was made immediately and though the concierge did mention that maybe some misunderstanding had happened, she believed me after I commented what the person had said during check in. In the end, I was not charged those fees. The reservations for the pool were totally worth it. I loved having the whole place to myself. All in all it was a beautiful hotel and for the most part, great service. If it hadn't been for the initial call to the hotel, this would have been a 5* review.…
My wife and I were able to celebrate our 10 year anniversary here and enjoyed every minute! I was concerned that due to restrictions we might miss out on a few things we had been looking forward to but the staff did everything they could to make sure our stay was comfortable and very special!! On arrival we were greeted by the manager Isaac who had done a brilliant job of being communicative by email before the stay, and was very welcoming and helpful during the stay. On entering our room we were greeting by an anniversary gift from the kitchen (please excuse the poor photo), and with our first meal enjoyed complimentary bubbles!! The whole staff seemed to know it was a special occasion for us and did their best to make it feel wonderful. Our room was beautiful with a large bath and shower, super comfy bed and the room opened out onto our own lawn area. The black our curtain worked a treat. Each day we enjoyed the “inside/outside” pool and spa circuit. We ate in the restaurant each day and enjoyed spectacular service. The lunch and dinners were very good but we especially enjoyed the breakfasts by the river with the occasional hummingbird visitor. While the sauna, gym and bar were not available due to restrictions, the staff did everything they could to compensate for this. We did not feel like we missed out on anything. We also noted how well the staff adhered to covid protocols, we felt very safe and comfortable the entire stay. It also seemed that all the staff had at least a basic level of English if that’s a requirement for you. They also endured our poor Spanish with a smile and regular encouragement!! Loved it!!…
The hotel is stunning and perfectly blends in with the stunning nature surrounding the resort. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the rooms very clean ... just as one expects from a five star resort in this category. In addition, the quality of the breakfast selection offered as well as the lunch and dinner menu was extremely high. The hotel‘s spa is also very nice and I highly recommend to plan enough time to relax and unwind at the hotel itself. The highlight of the hotel is the onsite train station, which allows to catch a train to Macchu Picchu (day-trip possible). It is important to note that the train-ride incl. a guided personal tour is expensive. We contacted the hotel beforehand and they organized everything for us.
We had an incredible stay at this hotel. The staff was super friendly, courteous and helpful. The restaurant was very nice and the food was just amazing. We tried "Lomo Saltado" and Wow, that was good! Their muña tea was amazing too! The hotel is right by the train station (Peru Rail). Room was spacious and beautifully decorated.
