We really enjoyed our stay at hotel Molino. After staying in several other hotels in Peru, we really appreciated the cleanliness, the nice plush blankets, and the service. Holmes the hotel manager was extremely helpful for everything we needed. From giving us local advise, to helping us with truly anything we needed at the property. The rooms overlooking the hummingbird gardens and mountains have beautiful views, which is so nice to wake up to. It is about 10-15 ride from ollantaytambo but if looking for a special place it’s worth the drive.
I stayed at Hotel Molino in April 2019. As the hotel was just reopening for the season we were the only guests and along with Holmes the only occupants. Holmes couldn't have been more helpful, whether it was advice, lifts into town or tasty breakfasts, he truly added to our experience. The hotel itself, with views of the mountains and hummingbirds in the garden was everything we could have asked for. While the location is a little way out from the town the peace and quiet was perfect.
Hands down one of my wife and I's favorite places we stayed during our trip to Peru. This place is a total hidden gem, but absolutely worth it in every way. The owners are fantastic, and the garden is truly magical. We'll definitely stay here again any time we return to Peru.
It is a very attractive and restful place to stay with fantastic views and a garden into which a lot of love, care and thought has gone, which has a lovely variety of hummingbird visitors. The room and attached bathroom was large, comfortable and clean with balconies both front and back to admire the garden and views beyond. And there are three big and friendly dogs to enjoy! We ate there several times, it was always good and wholesome - we’re vegetarian but that wasn’t a problem. Holmes is an interesting and helpful man, who gave us a couple of lifts into town – thank you! We took up their offer of a pre-arranged taxi to pick us up from Cusco airport and to take us back there at the end of our stay, which was very useful as it is a few miles from Ollantaytambo. None of the taxi drivers there knew where the hotel was (it is some way off the main road along a rough track) and weren’t that keen on doing the trip. That may, or may not, be a downside for visitors but you need to be aware that apart from local walks you are reliant on transport to go anywhere (restaurants, Inca sites etc.) from the hotel.…
El Molino is located in the forest and has a beatiful view on the nearest mountains, it has a great garden where often you can see humming-birds. The hotel room in which we stayed has a lot of space, big bed, small balcony with great view and also a small fireplace (owner has encouraged us to use it and helped with making fire) which gives a pleasant fire and rise temperature very fast in the room on the cold night. Breakfast was delicious, it included fresh fruits, fresh squeezed juice and many other things, also dinner was delicious, the staff had prepaired it despite our late arrival. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip in that region.
Very quiet place, hotel surrounded by nature with a beautiful view. The owner is very nice and helpful even in the middle of the night! The food was delicious and the breakfast was so big that we couldn’t finish it.
We only stayed for one night as a treat on our way back from Machu Picchu, as this hotel is not located in central Ollantaytambo (you would need a taxi from central Ollantaytambo). The location is just beautiful - surrounded by mountains and the gorgeous garden on the property itself with water running around the property. I wanted to stay and relax there a little longer. There were chill out areas where you could sit and read or play table football. This was the first time I had seen a hummingbird in the wild - right in the back garden! The owners were away during our stay (I think we were the only guests) and we struggled to communicate a little with Ricardina (our fault - our Spanish is not as good as it should be) but Joanna and Holmes kept in touch regularly via email and helped us resolve any questions we had. We had a problem with our train to Ollantaytambo arriving late, which impacted on picking up our luggage and meeting the prearranged taxi driver and also on the evening meal Joanna and Holmes had organised. However, this was all resolved and when we arrived, Ricardina cooked us a delicious dinner - a chicken soup followed by fresh cooked trout with rice accompanied by fried potato and also fresh muna (mint-like leaves) with boiled water for a refreshing drink. Breakfast was a sort of quinoa porridge accompanied by sweet bread rolls, scrambled eggs, cheese and condiments + yoghurt.... everything you wanted and much more! Joanna and Holmes were in contact from the moment we booked and in the days leading up to our stay and they helped us to arrange taxis to and from the hotel, which made for a very smooth experience. I found the room and the shower were not as warm as I would have liked but I found that in most of the places we stayed on our holiday and the bed had enough blankets to ensure a very comfortable sleep. The bed was also huge! We loved the three friendly dogs! Wifi worked well. There was no TV but who needs a TV when you are surrounded by so much beauty?!…
Hotel Molino is a beautiful property in a gorgeous and uplifting location surrounded by tall mountains. The grounds are covered with lush flowers and plants and the sound of soothing water is always present. Three friendly and affectionate dogs reside in the property. Highly recommended to the artistically inclined. El Molino was an inspiring retreat and respite from the hectic tourist areas. We highly recommend taking advantage of the treks that they offer — these are unique opportunities to experience the Sacred Valley off the beaten path. We had excellent communication with Joanna and Holmes leading up to our trip to help us plan our stay. Holmes was an excellent host and guide throughout out visit; always willing to offer great advice about what to see and what to do. One of our most memorable outings involved a night trek to photograph the Milky Way! Holmes is an avid and well-known mountain climber and photographer. Lastly, Ricardina was a lovely person and prepared delicious food for us during our stay. It was a magical place where we felt close to the spirit of the mountain and the mysterious resonance of the Inca tradition. Thanks again Joanna, Holmes and Ricardina.…
This property is most beautiful small hotel on the world.I spent 2 nights in this place with my wife and my friend Piotr from Lima and Rafal from Poznan. Everything was just amazing. Food/ Spanish and french / was superb. Owners Asia and Holmes are super friendly people, already my friends!!! Morning views for Veronica is breathless. Quiet and amazing. I wish i can come visit this place one more time.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Molino after spending the past 5 days and nights camping and trekking. It is located about 10 minutes outside Ollantaytambo-go up an unmarked dirt path off the main road and in a few minutes you will come to a beautiful wooden door with a motorcycle on it. Holmes has created a little oasis full of so many beautiful flowers, fruit trees, and many water features. You are surrounded by the mountains, butterflies, hummingbirds and red dragonflies. In the evening you can see the Milky Way since there it very little light pollution. The property has water channels similar to the Incan water channels in town and it sounds very soothing/relaxing. We found the room beautifully decorated with lots of little special touches and the vaulted wooden beamed roof gave it an airy feeling. We stayed in the Veronica room located on the second floor and it has a little veranda in the back which has wonderful views of the mountains in the morning. It had the most comfortable bed during our whole trip in Peru with enough blankets and soft sheets to keep us toasty. Holmes made us delicious breakfasts since his French chef was out of town. Fresh fruit juices, egg and tomato scramble, warm bread and jam, sliced avocado and fruit salad. He brewed us a wonderful mix of blended coffees and always refilled our cups with more after we told him how good it was. We just adored his three large gentle and well behaved dogs-Fido, Chochito and Kopari. They would just chill and sun with us while we were outside. It was a wonderful stay-we would have breakfast and decompress and go into town for a bit and come back in the evening. It was nice being away from the hustle and bustle of Ollantaytambo and all the rest of the tourists. Joanna was very quick to respond to any of my questions through email. I would have them pick you up from the train station since it is a little tricky to find their place the first time. We took a picture of a nearby restaurant- El Viajero and showed that I taxi drivers or tuk tuk drivers. They can always call Holmes and talk to him about exact directions. The ride was 20 soles back to the hotel. We usually got dropped off by the dirt road and walked up using our phone or headlamp as a flashlight. We didn’t mind walking up and working off the food we just had in town. It was very safe even in the evening and locals would wish us good evening. …
