No picture of Machu Picchu can prepare you for seeing it with your own eyes. Perched high in the Andes, it is one of few places in the world that can be described as truly unmissable. It’s on everyone’s travel wish list, attracting a million visitors each year. But there’s only one way to see it in style: by staying at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. When we say we’re one of a kind, we mean it. Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel that sits at the entrance of the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. For years we have been the unofficial gateway to the Inca world, inviting our guests to explore with unrivalled access and expert guidance. While most visitors to the citadel endure a winding bus ride from Aguas Calientes, our snug retreat is a few footsteps away. Wake before sunrise and be the first through the gates. The mountains look magnificent emerging from a thick cloak of mist, and Machu Picchu is stunning in solitude. Stop, breathe and soak it all in.

This is the ONLY hotel at the entrance to Machu Picchu, giving you the advantage of being able to get in before the 5000 visitors spoil the experience. The hotel is not much to talk about (well, actually that depends on the rooms). It is INCREDIBLY expensive, the food is

Location, location, location. This is THE location in Machu Picchu. You are staying on the mountain only steps from the park entrance. It’s the only hotel up there. The masses are all staying way down the hill in a charming but touristy town down on the river. Up here, when the

It’s literally right next to Machu Picchu. Couldn’t get any closer. We were there in January, it is the rainy season. But, the rain usually is in the afternoon. We had one day without rain, and on the second day, it started raining when we were leaving Machu Picchu.

Hi, Have you got rooms with a balcony? Thank you.
The garden suites have a nice patio but no balconies. Most of the hotel is ground floor. There are several nice terraces where you can lounge. GREAT hotel!

Not sure of the exact price as we paid in Aussie dollars, but on my rough conversion it would be about 50 CAD per person. Certainly not cheap but good food and simply the best location!

"book well in advance. It rains a lot up there; if you really want a reliable visit with good weather, you might want to book several nights."
"Think they are all great rooms with great views!"
"If you have to stay here, get a suite overlooking the lawn. Don't get a room near where busses from town come in."
"Try to get a room that doesn't face the front area where the busses come, it can be loud in the AM"
"Ask for a quiet back room with view of the mountains."
