We got a taxi for a two day fabglamatetric tour of the city and Inca temple Our taxi/guide took us to the Bolivar for Agrio Pisco's and a look around. Just sooo sorry we could not stay a couple of nights. Yes....faded grandeur, me too after 21.! Sometimes for the ambience one is prepared to accept faded....and we would have been. Right in the very heart of Lima.....if you vcan stay here...please do and tell all about it.

We went to visit Plaza de Armas and decided to go to the oldest hotel in Lima and have a quick lunch. Overall a good experience and what really made it special is the serial feeling of dining in the 1950's.
We stayed at the Gran Hotel Bolivar for one night before heading home from our trip around Peru. The location is excellent as you’re situated right on Plaza San Martin and just minutes walk away from Lima cathedral etc. The interior of the hotel lobby is very fancy with a gorgeous stained glass dome, vintage fixtures and fittings and even a Model T Ford in the lobby! As mentioned in our guide book the grandeur is most definitely faded, and things do seem a little shabby and tired. This does however add to the character and the whole experience, just don’t go expecting the luxurious comforts that the big celebrity names (Mick & Keith from the Stones and Walt Disney to name a couple) enjoyed back in its hey day. The suite we were given was huge and definitely had bags of character, although the room was a little chilly and there was no heater but spare blankets did the job. The place also feels quite creepy, we didn’t really see any other inhabitants and especially spooky were the loooong corridors that reminded me rather of The Shining and other horror films! Definitely worth a visit to soak up the ambiance and history.…
Just spent a night at the Gran Hotel Bolivar. ‘Faded grandeur’ could probably find its dictionary definition here. I expect over the years it’s seen plenty of excitement (deals, bribes, romantic liaisons and, judging by our room, probably the odd suicide). It really does feel like a step back in time, with Model T in the foyer and an bunch of vintage fixtures and fittings. The Stones stayed here in 1969, and so we had fun doing Mick Jagger impressions outside the suites they occupied (428 and 430). The staff were friendly and helpful, and for a journey back to a different era this hotel is worth a shot.
