It may have been because it was a "higher-cost" dorm room with a/c (not a regular one without a/c) because there was really "quite sufficient" space in that 4-bed room (with only one bunk bed & two regular beds, one or two furniture pieces with sets of drawers, 4 big lockers, and even like a small "sun roof" at a little above the regular ceiling in the room). And apart from the comfortable room, nice to hang out was also the lobby area (a spacious one like a big "living room" or such with seats around a coffee table and where there's also a big-screen TV). The breakfast was basic but more or less sufficient (with like an egg sandwich that you can ask the kitchen staff for). And as for the location on the riverfront, there's not much of a view of the river itself (I would just say "more leaves" than water to see in the river and where actually just across the waterfront promenade in front of this place and right below is like a cluster of "makeshift structures" where people live), but at just a few-minute walk from here (to the left after coming out) is the Indigenous Museum with two floors of displays (really a "quite comprehensive" museum despite its small size), and at a further 5-to-10-minute walk from that museum is also another one which is on a riverboat (with displays on its three decks about the European settlement of the area & also about the "boom & bust" of the rubber economy more than a century ago which I found quite fascinating to learn). And also along the waterfront (right between those two museums) is a "clearing area" with some nice restaurants (among which is one with filling meals & good prices where I ate a number of times during my stay) and shops for nice "Iquitos souvenirs" & like artworks of the Amazon (not just on the promenade itself but also at slightly down below on some "structure-on-stilts" in the water). And also at just one block up from this place (in the opposite direction from going to the water) is a shopping street "quite vibrant" in the evening after dark (a great place for a stroll or window-shopping).

I wouldn't stay here again. The hostel was filthy - dirty toilets, grubby floor in the dorm rooms and smelly bedding. I don't think they use a mop anywhere, they just sweep. It's very noisy as well with the road outside and loud music playing but to be fair, the fan in my room was so loud that it was enough white noise to drown most of the sound out! Internet was dreadful. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was ok (a boiled or fried egg, a papaya smoothie and some bread). Not really anywhere comfy or clean to hang out at the hostel - I read online that you can go to the Hilton in the central plaza for 70 Soles for the entire day to use the facilities (amazing pool, gym, fast WiFi). I decided to do that and found out you can also use the 70 soles for lunch and dinner - it was waaaaaay better than sitting in the Flying Dog so I'd recommend doing that if you have time to kill!

So we stayed here for 2 nights before our Amazon visit and for 2 nights after. It's reasonable for what you pay I guess. Clean sheets, some breakfast in the morning etc. No A/C which is pretty hot but there was a decent fan in our room. Our biggest problem was the street noise which was loud and at almost all hours. Not even earplugs were enough. I would stay here as needed but I wouldn't linger.

At first sight this place looks nice, it's very open and with different areas where one can seat and rest. However, cleanliness is something they should work on. Shared toilet is far from being clean, bedrooms could be better and bed sheets were smelly. I would not recommend this one.

Great price, clean rooms, AC available in most rooms, breakfast included Other than slow WiFi, this hostel was a great stay off the malecón in Iquitos, so it is right off the river. It is definitely a good place to stay for groups.
