Located only three blocks from the Plaza de Armas in the city of Cusco, El Balcon has a commanding view of the entire city, cathedrals, churches, mountains and the Ausangate glacier. El Balcon is a renovated colonial Casona that dates back to the 1630s built atop the preceding Inca terraces. Inca stone work and colonial balustrades mesh harmoniously around terraced gardens creating an atmosphere that is beautiful, historic and authentically Peruvian. Some of our amenities and services include free airport transportation, complimentary hot breakfast and buffet and laundry. We are happy to help with any travel arrangements so that our guests can experience the best that Cusco and the Sacred Valley have to offer. At El Balcon we strive to provide our guests with the highest level of hospitality so that they have all they need to feel comfortable at our family establishment. All room rates include 2 guests, additional guests will be an added charge.

We arrived at 6am and checked in (also purchased the previous night to be sure we could access the room immediately). They helped us with baggage and a small heater. The breakfast was great (and started earlier than is typical in Cusco, which was really nice!). Pretty courtyard and views from the room. Tea was available all day/night - even at 2am when I had some altitude issues in the middle of the night. Front desk gave great recommendations as well.

Well maintained hotel a couple blocks from the main plaza. Room was clean and had all the basic amenities. Stuff was very usefully and help us with directions and taxi booking. We got a 40% off the regular price so it made the deal even better. Breakfast is basic and didn’t have vegan options

El Balcón is perched above Cusco, and the views ... particularly at night .. are wonderful. The staff at the Balcón was very accommodating. We kept luggage there, for example, for several days as we headed up to Machu Picchu. And even though we came late to dinner, they made an extra effort to cook some delicious chicken soup for us. The gardens are picturesque, and the rooms are unlike others you'll find. And the main square is only about 2k away. It's on a narrow busy road, so you're going to feel a little rushed with your luggage while coming and going. Our room didn't have any temperature controls, so if it's going to be cool at night, you might ask about which rooms stay warm.

Paid for a room with two beds was put into a room with three beds which left us no room to maneuver! They charge for water! Supposedly breakfast included, have an early flight, asked for a box breakfast to go, was told, not included! No management on site… Just receptionist, so no one to address your concerns because apparently the receptionist is in capable of doing so. When I told her I paid for a room with two beds her response was, it is the same size room only with three beds! Really?! Had I known this property was on a steep hill and granted it’s Cusco there’s lots of hills, I never would’ve rented here to begin with. There are much better places throughout Cusco much better accommodations that cost far less than this overpriced hostel. The only reason I booked a room here was because we stayed two nights at El Albergue you the sister property in Ollantaytambo (Beautiful property well run, management on site, no complaints enjoyed our stay there) so I assumed I was getting the same level of professionalism and comfort at the sister property here in Cusco. Suffice to say Wendy dropped the ball at this property. So my advice unless you’re backpacker that likes paying for an overprice hostile stay far away do you have much better options in Cusco, sadly.

Arriving at this lodge was such a relief after the last place we stayed. This place was clean and stunning. We loved the architecture of the public spaces and the design of our room. We had the family room with three beds, with a door separating the two parts of the room. The doors all have these neat parts that allow you to open the top part of the door only (a portal of sorts). The ceilings have exposed supports that were stunning. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms clean and tidy. There was plenty of space to meander around the room. Our room had a private balcony overlooking the city, and it was a stunning view at night. We loved how all the locking mechanisms were using actual hardware! Included breakfast was simple with toast, jam, butter, fruit, and granola. You could get eggs and pancakes for an upcharge (we didn't expect this, thought it was all included). It was very tasty, and the woman running the kitchen was super friendly, kind, and warm. Reception desk employee was a bit cold to us at times, but maybe we asked too much of her. She was there each time we came to reception. We originally showed up 4 days ahead of check-in to drop off our big bags before heading out to Ollantaytambo/Machu Picchu (the train has a bag limit). Stowing the bags for that time was simple and safe. Hotel is located on a narrow street, and if you get dropped off by taxi, there's a bit of pressure as you unload since it's blocking all of traffic. You barely can tell the hotel is there from the street based on how it's designed (don't worry there's a clear sign), but then you walk through the door into the beautiful lobby and then the rest of the property beyond!

It is a very simple place, a hostel, as their door sign says, not a hotel. I booked a slightly more expensive room with a balcony and expected to have a private balcony, but the balcony goes along the second floor of the house. The balcony has comfortable sofas, a charming view of the garden and an amazing view of the city's roofs, but no privacy. The breakfast which is included consists of coffee, bread, jam and butter and some fruits. For eggs, paincakes, or yogurt there is an additional charge. The restaurant was not open the hours past breakfast when I stayed there. The Internet was sporadic, which was a huge inconvenience. The room itself is big, but very basic and cold (i think they have heaters available). Bathroom looks bare and uninviting. When I first got in the room, there were two sets of towels in the bathroom, but when I returned in the evening, one set was removed. The staff was helpful when asked for help, they assisted me with the luggage as there are steps everywhere, and called me a taxi a couple of times. The street is quiet, there are no vendors on the street as in the center, small tiendas and pharmacies are a couple of minutes away. Overall, the place was good for two nights.

Just 10 minutes walk to the Plaza de Armas, this quaint hotel has a beautiful courtyard/gardens and a stunning view overlooking Cusco. It was the first shower with great water pressure I had in Peru. Coca tea is always available. What really made it special was the front desk staff! They were so accommodating and helpful. Thank you for your hospitality!

El Balcon is not right in the centre, which makes it a lot quieter. We loved the rooms around a central garden. Comfortable but not luxurious. Very clean, well decorated and with good bed and bathroom. Perhaps a little small - but manageable. Breakfast in the ground floor dining room is excellent. We also had dinner there one night to stay out of the rain, the the offerings were basic but very good. It's only a 10 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas - so within reach of Cusco's many attractions. And the price is very reasonable. Very helpful staff as well - who can help organize excursions (with very good drivers) into the Sacred Valley.

This is a rustic, clean, lovely, great value for money place to stay at while in Cusco. The rooms are small but comfortable and nicely decorated. We really emjoyed the included breakfast which is a huge step up from pre-cooked breakfast available at most hotels. They provide a small is menu but it freshly cooked to order and there is a selction of fresh fruits, yoghurt, house-made granola(very good) and jams to select from. Laundry is great price and service is good. Great location, few minutes from the central plaza. Things to Note - it is a bit of an uphill climb to the hotel from the plaza. ALso wifi is poor in the rooms but works fine in cafetria. No TV in the rooms. Great to disconnect and enjoy nature.
