Casa Cartagena CuscoHigh in the Peruvian Andes lies the historic city of Cuzco, famous for its unique blend of Spanish and Incan cultures. Located just off a tranquil square behind the main plaza of Cuzco, Casa Cartagena Boutique Hotel & Spa Cusco emerges after years of restoration, which respected the original design of the historic house, to become one of the most exclusive boutique hotels in the city. Its walls of carved stone, which combines warmth, elegance and perfection, invite you to experience the fascinating magic and traditional mysticism that will transport you through time in this historic Spanish house declared a cultural heritage site of Peru. Its lovely atmosphere was built on an ancient Incan site, occupied by the ruling nobility of that time and from which it takes its name: Casa Cartagena, former property of the local Spanish ruler of Cuzco, Don Fernando Cartagena and Santa Cruz. This luxury hotel in Cuzco is an intimate refuge that has only sixteen spacious and comfortable suites, which perfectly blend the modern with the ancestral and luxury with the historical. The rooms are distributed symmetrically along a spacious patio of your dreams where time is suspended. It is located in the historic center of Cuzco, which was declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site.Recovery from an exhausting trip to Machu Picchu or the Sacred Valley of the Incas with our Qoya Spa will be something truly unequalled. It can be perfectly complemented with a delicious dinner in our restaurant which offers the best of local cuisine, "La bodega de la Chola", where poet Pablo Neruda was inspired and Che Guevara shared bohemian nights; it is considered one of the best restaurants in Cuzco. All of these unique features of Casa Cartagena and our warm and personalized service will make your stay in Cuzco an experience you will never forget.

We were at Casa Cartagena twice - 7 nights in total - and absolutely loved our stay there. It’s centrally located, so we were able to walk to many places within downtown Cusco. The accommodations were very comfortable, and Casa Cartagena offers guests a full breakfast each morning, pisco sours in the early evening, and a restaurant with a range of food options if you want to dine at the property. The grounds were quite lovely and seemed like a relaxing oasis away from the crowds and hustle and bustle of Cusco. More importantly, the staff were attentive, friendly, thoughtful, and always helpful. We greatly appreciate all the staff who made our time at Casa Cartagena so wonderful–-Fernando, Angie, Serriada, Kevin, Juan, Samuel, and the others whose names we are forgetting. All in all, Casa Cartagena was a perfect base for our time in Cusco!

Wonderful hotel!

Very complete and delicious breakfast, with local options if you want to try them and international options.

Very attentive and kind staff.
Paying attention to details, whenever we arrived at the hotel they would hand over our room key, without us having to tell them what the room number was.

There is a bottle of water in the room and chocolate on the pillow every day.

Large rooms, comfortable bed

There was a small earthquake on one of the nights, we didn't feel ANYTHING, due to the solid construction of the hotel

The spa is delicious, the pool is warm, they bring iced tea and water as a courtesy.

There's cocktail time with Pisco sour every night

We need to leave early for a walk, they prepared a breakfast bag for us, with fruit, sandwich, biscuit and water.

It’s close to the Plaza de Armas, but there’s a small slope that’s more tiring for the first few days, then you get used to it 😂

This is a beautiful and serene hotel in the heart of Cusco. It is in a great location; everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance. The front desk staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The rooms were modern and comfortable. The included breakfast was great. Too many excellent restaurants are nearby, so we didn't eat dinner there. If you're looking for a lively, rocking place, this isn't it. If you want elegance and peace, Casa Cartagena is it!

Hotel is located in a central and beautiful area which is convenient for walking to restaurants and other amenities.

The average 3-star review is due to the fact that the team on site has dealt poorly with my complaint.

I was staying in room 5 which is on the ground floor. The room only a very small window which I left opened and it still got quite warm even in the night. Note that there is no AC in the room (I was also told that all room are the same). Perhaps I should have checked on the AC situation before I booked it but one would have thought that a hotel like this would have AC.

Unsurprisingly, I did not sleep well at all (I stayed here in mid May 2024). Spoke to the reception the next day to request for a table fan and I was told that they don’t have any.

I then asked to change room to one that has a larger window but was told that the hotel is fully booked (which I suspected is not true as most rooms are dark and looked unoccupied).

They then suggested that I leave my door open when I head out for dinner and also perhaps when I sleep (!) so that I am more comfortable.

I immediately then requested for them to speak to their manager on duty as I was shocked that a 5-star hotel would suggest such a thing. I had to say that I thought it was a joke initially. I mentioned to the staff that he may be comfortable sleeping with his hotel room door opened, but I am not!!

30 mins later, a room with a balcony/window miraculously became available and I was able to move.

They also sent a drink and a small platter to presumably apologize (but no one apologized at all to me in person). The kitchen staff probably had no clue what happened and was tasked to just send the drink and platter to my new room. Again, it would have been nice if they acknowledged to me in person that the situation was mishandled. I was made to feel like I was the one who was unreasonable.

I am disappointed as the situation could have been handled in a better manner. Perhaps they should have just stock up with some table fans given the AC situation.

The beauty of the property is unfortunately let down tremendously by the poor handling of the situation. Perhaps, they are getting too complacent

Would I stay here again? Definite no.

For the same price, I probably should have been less adventurous hoping to try out a highly rated boutique hotel, and just go back to Marriott down the street. At least I am fairly certain their staff is trained enough not to make ridiculous suggestions like leaving my door open in the middle of the night.

I do hope that this is due just to my poor luck of being in room 5. The new room I moved to was certainly much cooler given the larger balcony window.

Excellent hotel. Gorgeous rooms, spacious, comfortable without being stuffy. Great location. Entire staff was top notch. We though the front desk team, the bartender, and especially the kitchen staff (breakfasts are great) were top notch. We really bonded with Angie who is incredibly friendly and helpful, but really the the whole staff could not have been more helpful. Highly recommend.

We were in Cusco 10 years ago and stayed at the JW Marriott last time, I would choose Casa Cartagena over the JW because it is less stuffy and a whole lot less expensive to boot!

Tip - try the sweet tamales at breakfast and don't forget to check out the hotel bar for your complimentary drink of the day!

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel for 3 nights after our trip to Machu Picchu. The beautiful courtyard & the convenient location was the reason we chose this hotel.
What has exceed our expectation was the great services! Devis was able to recognise us & remember our trip arrangement time every day we encounter him during our stay. He was attentive at all times and passionate to share with us knowledge about food & drinks of Cusco. It was also very easy to communicate with him in English.
The spa receptionist (sorry I forgot her name) was also very friendly and easy to communicate with.
I think the hotel management team should also recognise the staff who carefully managed the plants throughout the courtyard, they are all very well-managed and pretty!

The spa treatment we had was good but one small comment on the CST treatment. It may not be the one that we expected, it felt like more of a normal head massage.

When I had made the reservation it was for
15 and 16 of September checking out on the 17th well my trick got delayed by one day so I was only able to check in on the 17th at 7 PM which means I would have missed out on all of the complementary drinks using the swimming pool, which was amazing getting a massage from Olga, which was incredible as I would’ve only been able to spend one night and left at 6 AM the next day
However, Kevin at the front desk was able to change it without any problem to check in on 16th spend the night of the 17th & and check out on 18th
Definitely spend the time in the hotel if you have done a long track and the food at breakfast is nothing short of incredible
Everybody that works there is very quick to help out thoroughly enjoyed this day and I highly recommend it

When we give reviews, we try to be fair to other travelers. We look to trip advisor reviews for our travel considerations, and we know that five star reviews are helpful, but often hide imperfections. So, we do our best to provide reviews that are fair to the vendor as well as honest for the reader.

Having said that...Casa Cartagena is perfect. We had a perfect room. We enjoyed impeccable customer service at every step. We were made to feel welcome. We were made to feel important. We were given honest recommendations when we asked for them and we couldn't have been happier with our stay. The grounds are beautiful, the room was spacious, clean , and comfortable, and the location was two blocks away from the Plaza de Armas, which made it perfect for walking around the high-altitude city of Cusco.

If your travel budget allows for a stay in this type of property, please do so. You will not be disappointed in the good people and the great accommodations of Casa Cartagena.

If you come to Cusco, this is the place to stay. Easily WALKABLE to EVERYTHING, yet as soon as you walk through the front doors. You are greeted with seclusion and tranquility within the beautiful courtyard of this place. The staff is attentive to every detail, and as a bonus, you get Pisco Sour tasting provided by them. I wish I could give this place 1000 stars, as they deserve it. Stay here. You will fall in love.

My cousin and I stayed at Casa Cartagena for two nights, and boy do we wish our stay was longer! The amenities are amazing (beautiful courtyard, the most comfortable beds, spacious rooms, heated spa) but most of all the staff was phenomenal!

Mani went above and beyond to cater to our every need. When we arrived we had a pot of tea waiting for us in our room since they figured we were dehydrated from the altitude. Breakfast orders were taken the night before and they offer everything you could imagine — we each enjoyed two hand prepared cappuccinos every morning! And every night mani brought us a complimentary happy hour treat to enjoy on our courtyard facing balcony, we absolutely loved the passion fruit pisco sour.

All and all a stellar hotel, we will definitely be recommending this place to every friend who wishes to travel to Peru! Gracias, Casa Cartegena!
