We stayed here in a family apartment as part of Dragoman's family adventure holiday. After several nights of Lima and camping along the coast, it was a real oasis. Friendly staff, cheap laundry, internet access, a pool (rather chilly on a Peruvian winter day), peaceful gardens. Breakfast was a little slow and basic but good by peruvian standards. Security guard on the locked front gate. The apartment was huge and well equiped. We didnt eat there as there were many resataurants on the walk into town. Only a short walk to the Juanita museam and the convent. Would definately recommend it.

Lots of nooks and crannies and places to sit and hang out. Definitely safe to walk to the Plaza and restaurants on San Francisco. We paid for a junior suite with balcony ($10 US extra). Not sure what made it a junior suite besides a fridge but the room was large with 2 double beds and we had a balcony overlooking the pool. Room was clean and bright.
Warning- there are no heaters in the rooms. Pick up at the airport included in the rate. Great breakfast with juices, fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals, eggs and bread, coffee and tea.

This gated hotel encloses a lovely garden that makes you want to put down your travel woes, pick up a book, and settle down under one of the blooming trees. The rooms are perfectly nice (clean, each a bit different), but it's the views into the garden that make this place special.

I have great memories of the delicious breakfasts served out on tables in the courtyard.

While you're in Arequipa, plan to spend a whole afternoon at the convent.

This place has a very good reputation, but it's not deserved. The guesthouse apparently relies on bookings from enormous tour groups. Independent travelers may find their reservation has been lost, as mine was. Not a good start.

The rates for single rooms are unbelievably inflated. Though I was paying a non-discounted rate, the inexplicably rude front desk clerk put me in a room on the main hallway just off the reception desk room. The noise as every other guest had to tromp by my room was incredible. When I politely requested a different room, another clerk was able to accommodate me, but all of the rooms I saw were the same: terribly worn furnishings, musty rooms, dirty bathrooms. The windows often didn't close either, which felt insecure.

A few good points: an extremely secure front gate and luggage storage; an enormous, filling and healthy breakfast buffet; and free classical piano music in the well-priced restaurant, where the nightly dinner set menus are a steal (and the servers are friendly).

Normally, I'm not a fussy guest. I'm happy anywhere from a hut in the middle of the jungle to a tent on the beach. But this place is just not good value.

Our group of 4 stayed here for four nights before and after out trip to the colca canyon. All the rooms are very different and the first we were given were little grotty- a bit damp, very worn furnishings, tobacco smell and old ill fitting windows. We asked for an alternative and were shown for the same price much cleaner and fresher rooms. I then asked to see the best rooms and for $10 dollars more per room were shown the garden rooms/junior suites. These rooms were excellent, new, clean and quiet. The hotel is peaceful, well located with a superb garden and pool area. The breakfast was very good for Peru. There is a reasonable cafeteria/resturant which serves OK food however the wine served by the bottle was very cheap. Good location with an easy walk into the tourist centre and close to other tourist resturants for the evening. With tight security on the hotel gate we were concerned about our own personal safetey however despite some rough edges the town was problem free.
We used the tour operator located within the hotel ground to organise our Colca Canyon trip( Gardino Tours?) which was excellent staying at the hotel outside Chivay managed by the people from La Casa-it too was peaceful and rural in nature.
This is a popular hotel that maybe does not have to try too hard( due to guide book reccommendations) to get its trade. It needs to smarten up some of its older units . I would stay there again but only in the better more expensive rooms. The garden/pool for a hotel in this price range is unique.

This hotel was booked through our travel advisor so we really had no idea what to expect. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean and spacious and the bathrooms were really nice and modern. We didn't have any trouble with hot water or the WIFI. Very quiet and a great place to stay if travelling with family. The complimentary breakfast buffet offered a variety of local foods. The hotel is in walking distance to the main square. When we arrived, the person at the service desk was very helpful and gave us a map and directions to recommended places to visit as tourists.
Overall, would definitely stay here again if I ever travel back to Arequipa.

We stayed at La Casa de mi Abuela a few years ago and decided to book it again for a short trip to Arequipa. My family of 6, stayed in a room that was perfect for our family. It had 2 bedrooms and a nice sized bathroom and even a small kitchen area with a sink. We enjoyed the free breakfast which included fresh pineapple, orange or mixed juice, scrambled eggs, yogurt, granola, an assortment of breads, fruits such as pineapples, grapes, papaya and bananas, cheese and avocado and tomatoes. There was also coffee and hot water for tea. My entire family enjoyed the breakfast. We also enjoyed the pool although it was cold this time of year since it is winter here, but it was nice and clean. During our stay there was an issue with the water above our room so we were asked to move rooms since they needed to turn off the water in that area. They let us look at a few rooms to decide where to move for our last night and even helped us move our things. The new room was spacious and very nice with a refrigerator and an amazing shower! We also had a great ride to and from the airport for 25 soles in a nice big van. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything.

We stayed in a junior suite which overlooked the gardens and pool. Very spacious room with constant hot water.
Staff were extra friendly especially appreciated as I didn't speak Spanish - whatever English they knew, we shared!
Breakfast in the terrace was generous and was served til 10:30. A couple of blocks walk to the main city square. Highly recommend it...

This hostel is well located, easy walking distance to the main square and as well as many nice restaurants. Small shops (for water, snacks etc) are on both sides of the hostel. There are lovely gardens with hammocks and sun chairs, great for relaxing if you are in Arequipa to acclimatize before going higher. Excellent breakfast including the usual cereal, fruits and bread, but also delicious scrambled eggs. There is also a travel agency onsite. We used them to organize our tour to the Colca Canyon and they were excellent.

Does this hotel have oxygen to use in case of altitude sickness ?
Answer from LisLN
Aarhus, Denmark9 contributions11 helpful votes
It is not necessary with oxygen in Arequipa so I do not think they have. Arequipa is only 2400 meters altitude and there is absolutely no problems with sickness here (it starts over 3000 meters I think and bad over 3500 meters as far as I've experienced).
