This beautiful house was built in the beginning of the 19th century and now is the Inca Real Hotel. This house is an example of Colonial Style; it clearly shows the Spanish influence in the way our natives used to build houses.

If you are looking for an interesting and reasonably budget friendly hotel in Cuenca, the Hotel Inca Real is a great choice. Its location (2 blocks from Plaza Calderon) is perfect. The staff is as friendly and helpful as they come. Its multiple courtyards, that run along a long axis, are bright and inviting. You might get fancier breakfasts elsewhere, but you’ll pay quite a bit more for them (and the made to order omelettes at Inca Royal quite good). One reviewer complained about the coffee. OK, it’s from a conventional coffee maker, but it wasn’t at all bad when I was there. Another reviewer complained about noise. The rooms can be noisy. The walls are hard and our room (8b) did not keep the noise from getting in. But at night, when we wanted to sleep, it was as quiet as anyone could have wished. We slept really well while we were there.

This is the place you want to be. Older colonial style with a lot of history. So close to everything. Plazas, restaurants, museums and churches. Breakfast is a buffet style. Hot hot water showers. Huge rooms. The staff was so helpful with making our stay enjoyable.

Centrally located and easy to walk to many tourist attractions. Our room was spacious and comfortable and reasonably quiet, although we did find it rather warm and stuffy as it only had windows onto an inner courtyard. The bathroom could perhaps have done with an update, but it was clean and functional. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the tapas were delicious. We loved the quirkinesses and character of the hotel and the staff were always helpful and courteous.

I want to give this hotel a good review because the staff is friendly and lovely. However, it’s loud (there’s a locked gate and you have to ring a doorbell that echos through the whole hotel). The rooms are hot and stuffy even though it’s in the 50’s at night. You can’t get coffee until 7:15 am and it was the worst coffee I’ve ever had. My omelette had a foul taste and had chunks of something that I didn’t recognize. We booked this hotel due to a recommendation and that was a huge mistake.

Nice downtown location. Very difficult to find as door is set back from the street. Luckily we had a guide who took us here for lunch. Friendly service and good food. Wine a bit pricey at $35 for the cheapest white.

First impressions were good - the building is beautiful as is the lobby and entrance halls. However the room was a big let down. It was very no frills with no extras (hairdryer, tea, coffee etc). Bathroom looking very run down with no bath and a shower that looks like a 1970s gym changing room. There was also a hole in the bathroom roof so I could look straight into the attic above. Room was dirty with several hairs on the bathroom floor, dust everywhere and mud on our bedsheets. Also dangerous electrics - the lamp barely worked and had wires taped together. Photos attached! The room in general was very loud with paper thin walls between the wall and lobby and quite light as there was an uncovered window above the door and no curtain other than a net. Maybe we got unlucky with the room judging by other reviews but all in all unacceptable!

We spent 2 nights in the Inca Real visiting the historic parts of Cuenca as well as birding Caja National Park. The hotel is lovely. Composed of colonial homes built in the 1800s, but modernized so that each room has a private bath. The owner and staff members were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was a delicious buffet with an "omelet master" and everything else you needed to get ready for walking the historic area. Our dinners were delicious. Local folks come to eat in the restaurant so that says a lot for a place in an area full of tourists! They did tapas for us our last evening as we had a late flight back to Quito and it was perfect! Thank you, Inca Real, for a lovely stay!

Service was friendly and quick. We just shared a medium pizza but even that was a bit big. We had the Americano. Lots of topping and was tasty. Got given a bun first and came with the most delicious garlic butter I have tasted. Worth going to just for that!
