Detailed Reviews
We spent two nights here and we loved it. The location is only a few blocks away from the historic center, the breakfast was very nice, and most of all the manager was so helpful with answers to all of our tourist questions. Great hard wood floors, too!

This hotel is just excellent! The room with the balcony upstairs was large, the bed was comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet while situated at the heart of the city. The bed was also heavenly! As for the location, it is located on a busy corner in the city that is one of the cleanest that I have ever traveled to! The bustling center is friendly and safe within easy walking distance to many beautiful courtyards and the river.
We rented a car which was particularly nice for venturing into the Andes and outer lying communities but Cuenca itself is an amazing place. The Concierge at the hotel was amazing and gave us many tips for restaurants and local culture that we would not have found in our own google searches. He saved us a lot of time by finding craft markets closer to us than what we had originally planned based on our own research.
I would never bother staying anywhere else in Cuenca after this experience.

We fell in love with this hotel. The price is right for all you get here. Our room had a balcony looking out on the street, but it was very quiet. The view of the three large domes illuminated at night was spectacular. Very close to the old town and the river. Carolina was great in helping us with reservations and also very personable during our stay. The included breakfast was fabulous and was taken on a beautiful deck with plenty of tables. The old building has been restored beautifully and the balconies do wrap around the inner courtyard. Thank you Los Balcones for a wonderful stay.

My husband and I stayed at Los Balcones for 8 nights. It was a lovely colonial hotel with nice architectural details which make it special. We were in room 11 ( up about 28 steps, not for those with mobility issues); the room was large with a bathroom with possibly the best hot shower on the continent. The hotel was extremely clean throughout.
The breakfast was a mixed bag. When we ordered off the menu it was perfect, hot items were hot and cold cold. It was another story with the buffet which starts at 7AM. The buffet was poorly attended which I suspect was because of covid and the limited number of guests. But with the buffet, the hot items were in a warmer and unless you ate at 7AM, the hot and cold items were lukewarm.
Henry, is the go-to manager who answered all of our questions and concerns very professionally. He mans the front desk, is present most of the time and is very capable and willing to make everything right.
The hotel is in the perfect spot, about 3 blocks to the beautiful center square and 7 blocks to the river with plenty of restaurant and shopping options. Everything is walkable.
In closing, I would not let breakfast be a deciding factor. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in Cuenca and at Los Balcones and would return in a heartbeat if we revisit Ecuador. Thank you Henry for all of your help!

We picked this hotel for the location and great reviews. The location is good, but the customer service at the front desk is very bad. First, at checkin they could not find my reservation until I provided a printed copy. Then the person replies “Oh, you booked thru the website.” Like that’s different from the usual way??? I don’t know.
We go to our room, it’s nice, but the lamp on one side only works if you find the correct position for the cord. We see a bracket on the ceiling for a smoke alarm, but no smoke alarm. The safe in the closet is locked.
On our way out to dinner, we stop at the front desk and ask them to unlock the safe while we are out to dinner. He says he will do it ‘right away’.
I also ask about laundry service, and the front desk person says there is a price sheet in the closet. We thank them and leave for dinner.
We return to our room after dinner. Safe is still locked. The guy at the front desk sees us return, and suddenly remembers he was going to unlock our safe “right away.” He comes up, unlocks the safe and leaves. There are no instructions to set a code, and setting a code is different from safes I’ve used in other hotels.
I look for the laundry price list. Nope, nowhere in the closet. I hike back down to the front desk and try to explain there is no laundry price sheet in the closet. He follows me back up to the room, looks in every drawer in the closet. No price sheet. He tracks one down for me.
Yes, these are minor inconveniences, and they were addressed (finally) but at unnecessary inconvenience to us. Thus the 3 star review. Hope other guests have a better experience than I did in my first two hours at this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a group tour. The hotel is centrally located, but just far enough away from the main square that it's not too noisy at night. The building looks a little unassuming from the street, but once you get inside you're in a beautiful courtyard. You had to be buzzed in by someone on reception every time you entered, good for security but it got a bit annoying. There was good wifi throughout the hotel.
My room was on the 2nd floor, there were no lifts so I had to carry everything up. My room was huge and beautiful, keeping with the colonial style. This did mean that the floorboards were a bit creaky and some of the furniture looked antique, but don't let this detract as it was beautiful. It was all very clean, and the bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was slightly on the small side, but it was very clean and had everything I needed. The shower was very modern and had consistent hot water and pressure (but no bathtub). I even had a small balcony which was a great touch.
I had breakfast on both mornings, and it was the weakest part of my stay. It was not located at the restaurant on the ground floor, but on a semi-patio on the 2nd floor. It was sort-of outside, but there was a large cover shielding from any rain, and patio heaters as it was a little cold. The setup wasn't ideal but I made do. The spread was ok but nothing special, some cold items and a few hot items.
Overall I had a fantastic stay at this hotel. If you want a hotel with beautiful rooms that's near the city centre but not right in it then I would recommend it.

Welcoming greeters at reception although quite busy with others. One man took my under his wing and showed me rom options when I said I was noise sensitive. One room opened directly to the main area (noise) and the second was set back but the window was facing the main area! Luckily for the one night it was kind to me. When I asked for help with the TV (there was a very special Ecuador soccer match on) he came in and set it for me...and we became "soccer buddies". In the morning he asked why I wasn't staying longer (Cuenca is a popular city and UNESCO Heritage Site). The breakfast, should you ask, is up on the top terrace buffet style. There was a variety so even a selective eater can find fresh fruit and granola with yogurt.

I loved the Los Balcones. It is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Cuenca within a short walking distance of the city center. The buffet breakfast on the rooftop of the hotel was one of the best I had in Ecuador with a broad array of food- eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, cereal, croissants, juice, etc. The service was also great. The hotel helped me arrange a tour to Cajas NP, a Covid test for my return to the U.S., a taxi to the airport and a number of other things while I was there. Dinner and lunch in the beautiful hotel lobby area were both great and were excellent values, as was the hotel overall. My room was large and modern with a huge shower. It was quiet and very comfortable. Can't say enough about the hotel. And just a great value at about $50/night. You can find cheaper hotels in Cuenca, but none that is a better value. This is a true 4* hotel experience at about a 2* price.

Near everything, and very safe to walk around.
This property was charming and had a lot of character. The only drawback is the lack of an elevator. I stayed in a first floor handicapped room, which was enormous and comfortable with a huge shower.
While unfortunately, we were the only travelers there at the end of June, that meant we received a lot of personal attention from the awesome staff. A special shout-out to Wally, the friendly and highly talented chef who created Michelin star-quality meals. (Hey Wally, the Tampa Bay Lightning just beat the Montreal Canadians for the Stanley Cup😃).

The people who run the hotel are very friendly. The hotel is located in an area very close to Calderon Park where the life of Cuenca is. We stayed in a room on the first floor with windows to the room where they serve breakfast. The room was spacious, clean but the sheets and blankets were damaged and I found hair on them and I didn't like this. The mediocre breakfast, a fried egg with bread and coffee, well no fruit or juice or very poor. The night we stayed there was no internet or television, I think the hotel was full and all the people using the same service at the same time made the network service terrible. They suggested we use the office for the internet but we found it inconvenient. I think the hotel can improve since it is very nice and the kindness of the owners is pleasant.

Don't know either. Contact the hotel. im sure they will respond quickly.
LATAM has several flights a day from Quito, and it's about a half hour in the air. The planes are relatively new Airbus 319s and 320s, and LATAM (formerly LAN) has an excellent safety record. It does not appear that you can fly directly from Guayaquil to Cuenca, as you have to fly to Quito first. The bus ride is long, and many buses don't have an on-board bathroom. We booked our one-way flight from Cuenca to Quito only 3 days in advance, and it was $167 for two adults.
No idea. We had a private room with a double bed.
