Detailed Reviews
We stayed 5 days in the old part of town before flying to the Galapagos. This part of Quito is the only place to be and is where the old Spanish Colonialists were based. Lovely architecture. The hotel is three blocks away from Plaza Grande where all the action seems to be. Down the hill and take the second right.
The front desk staff were fabulous and offered advice and suggestions on everything. They organized a day trip to Otovalo and Mitad del Mundo for us. The first was an excellent market experience. You need to bargain on prices! There are two Mitad del Mundos which is the equator line. The big fancy one was fascinating with dance performances, shops, museum etc. However it is in the wrong place! About 500 yards outside the compound is the small version and the real thing. You must go there. It is amazing the difference that a few feet either side of the line makes. There is a great experiment where they pour water down a sink on one side and it goes clockwise down the plug hole and then just a few feet on the other side of the line it goes down anti clockwise!
Breakfast was included at the hotel and there was always freshly squeezed juice. The security to get in the building was excellent. We were advised to be back no later than 11pm.
Take a left out of the front door down the hill two blocks to a restaurant on the right side called Vista Hermosa. Live music every night up on the rooftop with an amazing 360 degree view of the lit city. Try the Lomo a la piedra, flambed steak on a hot rock. The local salsa goes on everything and is amazing. We also dined at Hasta la Vuelta Señor in the Plaza Grande.
The rooms at the hotel are small but adequate. There is street noise so ask for one away from the street if available. The heater in the room worked well. The shower water pressure was excellent and nice and hot. Internet was wireless and good. There is a guest computer but I used my iPad.
The only problem was I had headaches for the first 4 days because of the altitude. Take things REAL slow walking up the hills until you get acclimatized.
This is not a luxury hotel but we really enjoyed our stay and the move for one night to the fancy Radisson organised by the cruise company was a let down in comparison.

The hotel is located within the historical center of Quito and it is a short walk away from Plaza Grande. In fact, one can easily walk to all of the attractions within the historical center itself. There is a Trolebus station about four blocks away in which one can take to go to other parts of Quito. The nearest Ecovia station is about seven blocks away but it is still definitely walkable from the hotel.
In terms of the rooms, I had no complaints except that my bathroom light was faulty for my first night. I could also access wifi from my room. The place was quiet while I was there, so I could get a good night's sleep every night. It helped that my room was not facing the street and had no windows.
The staff (just a person manning the reception every day) were pleasant, but reserved. The complimentary breakfast consisted of a sandwich, eggs, fruits, juice and coffee/tea. It was nothing spectacular but there was nothing to complain about too.
Overall, for about $35 per night, I was satisfied with what I got.

My wife and I spent four nights here on two occasions 10 days apart in two different rooms, one in the back and one on the street. Could be charming with some essential upgrades.
Pros:
Good location close to Main Plaza in historic Old Town.
Nice guys working the front desk.
Good bathrooms, except for the sink that leaked water onto floor creating a small puddle.
In-room safe.
Cons:
Dingy carpets and bed spreads.
Mediocre breakfast.
Overall dark atmosphere.
Eating: We didn't try it, but the attached restaurant did a healthy lunch business with locals. A number of restaurants are within walking distance. Vista Hermosa nearby was a treat with 360-degree rooftop views over Old Town architecture and decent music on Saturday night, but the food was nothing to write home about.

I have recently returned from my holiday in Ecuador where I stayed at the Catedral Hotel International in Quito. This was a fantastic hotel which I would highly recommend to family and friends.
Myself and my partner stayed at the hotel for a total of 3 nights, before we went to Galapogos. I found the hotel to be of a very high standard! Our room was stunning and very clean. The food was great and most of all the staff were very friendly and always willing to attend to our needs. I would like to say a big thank you to Ivan as he was always willing to go that extra mile and help us.
As I said before I would highly recommend this hotel, please take the time to have a look at some of the pictures we took whilst on our stay there.

This is my fifth trip to S. America and I have to say this hotel is a disappointment so far. The location is great as far as proximity to old town, however this hotel is not accurately represented online. First, we had contacted the hotel in advance for a pick up from Quito Airport. Despite two follow up emails, no one was there to get us. Took a taxi instead without problem. 27$. The hotel is very basic, paint and facilities in need of repair (dingy, light bulbs missing, outlets blackened and burned). Furniture and decor dusty in public areas. Needs a good cleaning and overhaul and would be a great place. The Internet codes for wifi did not work and the only one that did has no connection in the room itself. Only in the common area. Be prepared for no heat also. There was a space heater, but its plug was black and the plastic melted. No chance I'd stick it in a wall outlet. We asked for a map of the area and they don't have any available, but did give a recommendation for a restaurant with a great view down the street.
I'm a very laid back traveler and would say I have reasonable expectations for a big city in Quito, but I've stayed in hostels better than this for a lot less money. Save yourself the headache and take a bus to old town from somewhere with a better value. W paid $60.00 for the night, but won't be staying more than one.

What do you want for $25? I want a bed, hot water and a breakfast....and I got it.
Noisy? Yes. It's on a main road, what do you expect.
Fountains? Yes Running? No I don't need a fountain in my hotel nor the cost of running one
Hot water? Yes. You needed to run it a while but it was piping hot!
My shower was clean, if you are worried about a shower, bring your gym water shoes that you use in the shower there, I don't touch my shower.
Clerks? Yes, and very helpful. An english speaking guide would have been helpful, but don't you know how to read?
Location? Great. 2 blocks from Plaze Grande (International) and 4 blocks from supermarket and maybe 6 blocks from bus station.
TIP: Be sure your taxi driver knows the location, and have a good map. I flew in at nightime, everything was closed and taxi was going to drop me, I said "no, exactamente" and we finally drove in circles until we found it. The flags are a good marker.
In room space heaters? GREAT idea! Your clothes that are wet from Quito rains dry in minutes with proper hanging. The $170 night hotel I had, didn't have a thing to dry clothing.
TV in room to pass the evenings, as I don't go out solo drinking.
one computer to all to use, no costs
Restaurant Portol de Benalcazar is excellent and right nearby. Turn left out the door, turn left on Benalcazar and it's on the corner. Don't miss this gem! You can drink and walk home. Wish I found it sooner. About 100 steps from hotel.

This hotel is a gem. It´s affordable, clean, and the staff gave us very professional, efficient and friendly service. Plus, it´s in a great location, just a few blocks from the Gande Plaza, walking distance from the most impressive attractions in the central historical center.
My guide book (Frommers) was not up to date, so it was a bit more expensive than I expected but still a great value for what you get (rooms are between $40 - $60 as I write this).
This hotel was completely renovated recently (re-opened in April 2009) and they did a great job, preserving the columns, staircases, and stately wood trim of this historical old building. There are 15 rooms, all with brand new beds, linen and furniture, and freshly painted interiors. There is a lovely atrium that looks down over a fountain and tables that are part of the classy restaurant on the main floor. The restaurant attracts an upscale professional crowd (capacity 200 people).
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a secure and really nice, clean and comfortable hotel stay in central Quito.

We spent a week here as a base for our time in Quito and surrounding area. It was very central for the walking tour of Old town, the double decker jump off, jump on tour bus and daily excursions to Otavalo, Mindo and Papallayca.
It is an older building but the staff is very helpful, a breakfast included and at a very reasonable price.

Did I mention Location? Footsteps away from all of the Old City Historic sites, this hotel is the perfect base for exploration. My room was clean, very quiet and exactly what I hoped for. While I didn't eat breakfast it seemed more than adequate. The Hotel itself is dark and very atmospheric, but still welcoming. I was here four nights and I would certainly stay again and recommend it to my friends. The only issue I had was that the "bi-lingual staff", though friendly and well-meaning, seemed a bit lost at check-in and check-out. Definitely worth staying here! Did I mention the location...

We chose this hotel based on its great location to tour Quito and was the starting point for our families to meet for a family trip my in-laws were taking us on. The stay was nice but the checkout nightmare diminished the entire experience.
Ensure your rate and payment before check in and if a pre-paid reservation, make sure they have it before you check in. This was an extremely, poor handling of a payment situation of a pre-paid reservation.
With a 6 AM departure time, we asked to pay the evening before. As we went to pay, they would not accept our pre-paid reservation confirmation number. After quite some time we ended up having a credit card statement showing the payment and they still would not accept it and then started saying he wanted more money than what our confirmed reservation listed, which clearly was marked the amount and PAID IN FULL INCLUDING ALL TAXES The desk clerk would not call his manager at that point, despite our request to do so.
By morning they had their own version of a spreadsheet to prove his supposed side of no payment . This was not an invoice or billing system print out simply an excel document and they would not give a copy. We remained very calm, and he called the police in which was just what our parents in their late 70's needed. At that point he send the spreadsheet, and we ended up paying again just to be able to leave but immediately called to dispute the charge. Ensure your rate and payment before check in.
The rooms themselves were clean and nice. However, if other room's guests are watching TV it can get loud.
Breakfast was poor they offered a cheese sandwich or ham but not both and this was done in the atrium of the hotel not their restaurant. We did have lunch at their restaurant and it was local fare and good.
It is in a good location if you are touring in Quito. However, it is a long commute to the airport.
