This place came recommended by friends. We booked it for our 14th year anniversary! This place was amazing, we stayed on the 2nd floor and the view was just phenomenal, there was 1 huge window at the front of our room and 1 at the back of the room, so you could see both the sunrise and sunset. The room and bathroom were clean and romantic, very very peaceful, great to get away from the city -
the restaurant was very clean and very beautifully decorated; the staff were extremely friendly and very polite, the food was delicious and filling....just wooooow! No issues with the WIFI, good speed to watch a couple of movies on line.
The Spa and Jacuzzi area were fantastic too, again very very friendly staff - our privacy was very well respected.

The only small issue that I had was in the shower, if your tall like I am, you will need to slightly tilt your head under the shower to wash your head, the shower head is not high enough. Also the pressure and hot water came and went......but no big deal for a quick shower. You want a peaceful get away, go to "El Crater", you will not regret it!

The hotel is pretty far from Quito's center but its worthwhile coming up here for a day. The rooms are very clean, the bed is comfortable, and the furnishings are minimal but elegant. Customer service is great. But what sets the hotel apart are the rooms (not all) that have huge windows overlooking the crater on one side, and the suburbs of Quito on the other side. Waking up and opening the curtains and having the view of the gorgeous verdant crater right below you is amazing. Highly recommended for a quick city escape. Prices are fair for what it is. Would be much higher in other countries.

My Wife and I recently spent five nights, four days at El Crater Hotel. Our room was spotless and in excellent repair. The views were spectacular, and the atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, which is why we were there. We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel each day, and enjoyed every meal.

Most notable was the kind treatment that we received from the El Crater staff. My Wife tore her left patella one week before the trip, and needed a walker to, well, walk. The staff assisted her at every turn and stairway, delivered meals to our room, handled checkout at our room, and arranged a driver to take us to local sights. Driver Elizabeth accompanied my Wife to the various craft markets, helped her with price negotiations and carried the bags, with the kindness that one would lavish on a family member.

This place is on our list- We will be back.

They are located in a privileged place, a beautiful view, the architecture is very good, however they do not take much care of their facilities, the room looks neglected, they had some spotlights that do not work, when you go to a viewpoint you can see the kitchen that It was very messy and even the appliances looked dirty.
Where they are looking to rest is not the ideal place, the curtains are translucent and allow all the light to enter early in the morning but even worse at night you can see from the outside to the inside of the room, the mattress is extremely hard and does not allow rest. The spa is super nice but one of the people who attended had his uniform dirty and in the spa the bathrooms were not clean and one bathroom the door lock did not work.

It is too expensive for what they offer as an experience.

I have nothing but good things to say about El Crater. The hotel was quiet, and the views were spectacular. I couldn't ask for more from a hotel in Ecuador. The staff was attentive to our every need, and I really enjoyed watching the clouds roll in every day. The only problem that I encountered was with electricity. My very costly laptop is made of aluminum, and I could actually feel the current surging through the laptop. If you're going to leave your computer plugged in here, you will most definitely want to plug it into a surge protector first. I lost one laptop to that here in South America.

We stayed here when we arrived in Ecuador and found it a real oasis in a very busy city. Rooms are huge (but could have used more storage space) and you feel very isolated from the noise of the city. The middle of the world is only a few minutes in a taxi and there is a good spa and restaurant too. Walls are a bit thin and we were kept awake one night by some rude guests downstairs but they left the next day. Not cheap but other than that no complaints

Everything is amazing about El Crater. We stayed in the Pululahua Suite. We had a beautiful view of the crater from the back of the room and the garden from the front. The staff is attentive and on point. No detail was missed. The food was exceptional, & the staff always made sure we had our dinner before closing the kitchen on their slow nights. The spa is beautiful. Excellent massage! The nature reserve is within walking distance, & worth it. There's also the Templo del Sol right around the corner. Highly recommend!

I spent one day and one night at El Crater Hotel, and the pictures cannot do this place justice.

The hotel room itself was astounding, well-furnished, and very comfortable. The staff were attentive and very hospitable, even keeping the restaurant open late just so I could have something to eat upon my arrival. And the restaurant was just perfect. There was a wide variety of food, and it was all very fresh and exceedingly delicious.

But you come to this hotel for the views, and these views are simply the greatest I've ever experienced at a hotel. I have never woke up in a more beautiful setting in my life.

I took the hike down into the crater itself in the morning, and walked to the far end of the crater before hiking back up to the hotel. I wasn't yet acclimated to the altitude, and the hike back up was strenuous to say the least, but with a lot of breaks I made it back up. If this is all that you do when you come here your stay will have been more than worth it.

But I cannot say enough about how evidently and obviously magical and powerful this spot on the earth is. When you stand there looking out into the crater you can just feel it whispering in your ear and coursing across your skin.

Go to this hotel.

My experience at El Crater was like none other. Where do I start??? From the unique location overlooking the crater, to the beautiful views, the spacious rooms with giant picture windows, lovely food and service at the onsite restaurant, to the most amazing spa I have ever been too (which was why I went to El Crater in the first place) - my 3 night stay here did not disappoint! It was beautiful, tranquil, and just what I needed for a lovely respite. During the day I went to Mitad Del Mundo and nearby Puluahua hiking and viewpoint. Also I spent an amazing afternoon / evening at the spa. The ambiance and decor alone will convince you that you are in for an amazing treat the second you step through the door. Tranquility and harmony are supreme. I had the best massage of my life from Santi - I couldn’t believe the healing blend of techniques, oils, and energy he used. Phenomenal experience. Don’t wait plan your vacation around this spa and hotel! Highly recommend!

We stayed at this little gem due to unforeseen circumstances as the road to our original destination was blocked and we couldn’t pass. We booked El Crater Hotel and found this to be a little paradise that is well worth an intentional visit. The setting was stunning on top of a dormant volcano with stunning views onto the crater and The Valley. The rooms were so spacious and vary by view. Food was ok, they had an extensive menu but a bit on the pricey side given the lack of hotel options in that area. But well worth a stay - make sure you go for a morning walk at sunrise - the views are stunning!

Aaron, as we learned in visiting Ecuador recently, there are no seasons on the Equator. As such, there is no wintertime. Many, if not most, hotels in Ecuador do not have heat in the rooms. At El Crater, our room had two oil-filled convection heaters, one of which did not appear to work, so we asked for a third heater since we thought that our room was cold when we arrived. We were also brought additional blankets. It takes a long time for these to fill the space (with no insulation in the walls); however, we woke up during the night feeling very hot and dry.

Hi Mary, The drive is around one hour from the airport. I arranged with El Crater to have one of their staff pick me up and drop me off again at the airport. They only charged me $35USD for each trip. Considering my very late arrival and my 06:00 departure from Quito Airport a couple of days later, I was most impressed with the service and the cost. I hope this helps and you have a wonderful stay. Kind Regards, Joanne
