Great for walkers

The entire staff were amazing, they were so hospitable and friendly. The room was large and had two levels: bedroom downstairs and bathroom and living room upstairs. Keep in mind that the building is old so the walls are thin. The bed was as firm as they come and unfortunately there was hair on one of the pillows. The room includes a hair dryer, toiletries, and A/C, and there is a grocery and a bank next door. The free wifi is great in the onsite restaurant but is weak in the rooms. They provide a small pitcher of water and a glass in your room and there are several water refill areas around the hotel. The free breakfast is adequate and if you have an early departure before breakfast starts they'll pack a meal for you.
They provide airport transfer (for a fee) and personally I recommend Alex if you choose to request the transfer; he provides excellent service. They can also assist with requesting a taxi if you're traveling around town at night when safety is a heightened issue.
Concerning ADA, there is a flight of stairs to get to the first level of guest rooms so unfortunately it isn't accessible. Overall this is a great hotel and I would stay there again in the future.

A well maintained grand old lady. The room was a great size and spotlessly clean. The whole hotel was flawless and so well maintained. The plants and flowers were fresh and green, wooden floors polished and glistening...to maintain such an old building to such high standards is rare. Reception was responsive , accommodating, and warm . Breakfast was a great spread every day. The only drawback was the lack of total amenities in the toilets and room. There is no body lotion or shower cap , as there is only an overhead shower. There is no kettle in the room. But sure enough, you have water dispensers in all corridors and a flask with hot coffee and kettle and tea in the lobby downstairs, which is available 24x7. Bang in the center of the historic district, most attractions are a stones throw from here . Security is very good and you feel safe at all times. Would surely recommend.

Came to this hotel on the recommendation of a friend. It's about a 45 min drive from the airport, although traffic was horrible on the way to the hotel that it took us almost an hour. The location is very convenient with a grocery store right next door and the grand central square just a couple blocks away. Tons of restaurants within a short walking distance.
The hotel is a historical building and it has maintained that historical feel throughout the hotel. I don't think it has any elevators (at least none that I could find). I typically prefer a more modern decor, so the style of this hotel wasn't for me.
They have filtered water avaliable on each floor for you to fill your water bottles at. They also have hydration stations in the lobby and in the reading room where you can prepare yourself a cup of tea or a glass of infused water.
Room was clean, fairly spacious. I found the bed a little too firm for my liking.
Free wifi.
Friendly customer service. They understand English quite well
Toiletries included bulk shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The shower takes a while to warm up and even then the water is not very hot.

Hotel was empty, super quiet, and very pretty. Comfortable beds. Lots of minor irritants make the stay unpleasant. If the hotel had more guests it would probably be loud - all windows open to the courtyard so you hear anyone talking there.
The bathroom was designed by someone who doesn't use a bathroom. The counter overhangs the toilet so that the toilet lid cannot open all the way, it falls down if you try to open it, etc. The shower is cute, but to reach the valve you have to put yourself below the rain-type shower head. So you have to get sprayed by cold water to turn on the shower. These minor irritants degrade the experience and are not what one expects from a hotel that costs 2x other options.
The included breakfast was awful. Scrambled eggs are more like an egg soup with some oil added. They had spaghetti with clams one morning that looked like leftovers from the night before - who eats that at 7am? Most of the bread baskets were empty, juices were empty. You'd think that no one was tending the buffet except there were 2-3 people standing around talking to each other. Again, perfectly reasonable for a hotel that costs $20/night. Not at all reasonable for a hotel that costs this much.
Dinner was fine, but the menu is very limited and expensive for relatively simple food. Lots of waiters, not many guests. The dining area is set up in the open patio/courtyard which makes for a kind of weird experience of everyone being a little too close. One night there was a big table for a group that seemed to really enjoy itself - everyone else just watched and listened them as they dominated the room. The restaurant seems to cater to local events like family gatherings, which is great unless you are a hotel guest.
All-in-all a nice-ish hotel that costs far more than it should. Clearly someone put some effort into the original remodel and since then the interest has waned. TV remote turns on the cable box but not the TV, you have to walk through the construction zone of the bar to get to your room, breakfast is gross, bathrooms were designed by aliens, etc, etc. There have got to be better options in this price class.
Not sure why all these other reviews are so glowing. Perhaps first-time visitors to Ecuador who are just glad that they were not robbed?

We had an outstanding stay at the patio andaluz. There’s a few quirks to get used to but it’s not the hotels fault. Central and near the plaza grande, way better value than the plaza grande hotel and the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome and at home. The split rooms are rough if it’s the middle of the night and you need to go upstairs to use the restroom, so make sure to turn a light or lamp on if you need to go on odd hours. The keys are connected to a HUGE wooden key replica chain. And you give your key to reception when you leave because it’s too bulky for most to carry. Breakfast is adequate on par with any 4/5 star hotel. There was some random nights with the lights off and doors locked down for your safety so appreciate what the staff does for you. The bar is open, just ask staff and they will gladly accommodate you. I will definitely return when in Quito. Thank you for the lovely memories

We had a wonderful, 3 night stay at Hotel Patio Andaluz. The service, beginning with the security guard at the front entrance, to the concierge, to the wait staff in the restaurant was first-rate, and most spoke English. The room was lovely and spacious with a modern bathroom, adequate wifi, a few English speaking TV channels, refillable water carafe, and safe. Coffee, tea, and filtered water is available, self service, at all times, including coca teabags which certainly helped with altitude acclimation. We enjoyed 5 meals in the restaurant, and really favored the breakfast buffet each morning. An English speaking driver was arranged for us to visit the cable car, go to the grocery store, and eat authentic empanadas in town. I can’t imagine a better stay elsewhere in colonial Quito. Thank you for your warm hospitality!

Dikaty Chocolate shop at Patio Andaluz in Quito offers a sensory journey into Ecuador’s rich chocolate-making tradition. From the moment we entered, the warm aroma of cocoa set the stage for an unforgettable experience. The friendly staff greeted us with enthusiasm and shared their deep passion for chocolate. The small shop, with its cozy seating and inviting atmosphere, made it easy to relax and learn about Ecuador’s prized cacao, particularly the Cacao Arriba variety known for its floral and fruity notes.
The experience began with an informative presentation about the history and process of chocolate making, from fermenting cacao beans to roasting and tempering. We learned about Ecuador’s unique approach to planting cacao alongside other plants, which influences its flavor profile. The tasting was the highlight—each bite was an explosion of flavor, with chocolates ranging from rich dark varieties to exotic Amazonian infusions like coffee and cacao bean jelly. Standouts included the cacao nib chocolate, cardamom chocolate, and the tart Sun Lime chocolate.
Beyond the tasting, Dikaty offers beautifully packaged chocolates, perfect for souvenirs or indulgent treats. The hot cocoa was one of the richest and most indulgent I’ve ever had, and the chocolates are truly exceptional. Whether you’re a chocolate connoisseur or simply looking to explore Ecuadorian culture, a visit to Dikaty is a must. Plus, it’s free!

We reserved a superior room, king bed, with a city view. Upon checking in late at night we were taken to a different room (the bed was on one floor and the bath room, closets and balcony were up one flight). When I mentioned the type of room we had reserved, staff said the room was just painted and floors varnished so it may not be ready. They checked with maintenance who said the room could be occupied. We were then taken to Room 401 (up 4 floors, there is no elevator in the hotel). The corner room was perfect with windows on 2 sides. It was very comfortable and very clean. Although dinner was no longer being served, staff had ham and cheese sandwiches with fries prepared and brought to our room. The buffet breakfasts were good with opportunities to try the local cuisine. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet and relaxing and the bar has a patio sitting area great for unwinding at the end of the day. The location is perfect, only 2 blocks from the Main Plaza, lots of restaurants, shops and churches. The hotel is an old, colonial style home with no elevators, only stairs. Several of the stair cases are spiral which can be difficult to go up and down. To get to our room, we went up 3 flights of stairs and then up 1 spiral staircase. For us it only added to the atmosphere and uniqueness of the hotel.

I stayed at Hotel Patio Andaluz for four nights, starting with a very late arrival due to a flight delay. The location is excellent, a short walk from the historic City Center, as advertised. The architecture and decor are beautiful, with a lovely rooftop terrace and ample nooks for sitting and relaxing. I appreciated the extra touches, such as ample filtered water, and coffee and tea always available in one of the sitting rooms. I most appreciated the staff, who were thoughtful, attentive and warm-hearted. I would definitely stay there again while in Quito.

Our trip to the Amazon was a little disappointing. We stayed at la selva hotel, which was lovely. But didn’t get to see as many animals as people who stayed at Napa Lodge.
Our trip to the Galapagos was super. But we suffered from seasickness.
There are more places to choose from in the Quito area.
