Be sure to stay at this hostel when you are in Quito! There is an amazing rooftop view, as well as breakfast and dinner (very good food) at a low price. It is like a labyrinth inside and you will always be discovering new corners of the hostel. It is secure with a friendly staff. The doors are locked at... More

I have stayed at over a hundred hostels all around the world, from Mongolia to Australia, London, Rio De Janeiro, Stockholm, New York, Mumbai and so on. But the best and coolest hostel I've ever stayed at was without a doubt the Secret Garden in Quito. This is the blue print of what a back packer hostel should be like.... More

Really nice hostel and very nice food, but we were literally forced to go to bed at 11.20pm like we were children. There was no place for guests to stay up and chat to eachother. Was slightly absurd being forced into your room to go to sleep so early.. Wouldn't recommend staying here if you're looking to have fun /... More

This was definitely one of my most favorite hostels I've stayed in (second to their sister hostel in Cotopaxi). Clean rooms and bathrooms, enough bathrooms (haha), quiet rooms, good atmosphere...best part was the AMAZING view and common area. I loved their no wifi rule at night which helps everyone bond. Good food, great staff, I made this my base while... More

This was to be our first hostel experience as part of our travels and we were apprehensive about staying in dorms..... i definitely needn't be. The staff are very welcoming and the other backpackers in the hostel are also in the midst of travelling so everyone staying is in the same boat. The terrace on the roof is the best... More

The great view from the roof terrace almost is enough to justify staying here on its own. Staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful and the travel agency downstairs does a good free walking tour and advice on Ecuador in general. The hostel does a set meal in the evening for $4.95 with free dessert if you sign up before... More

I stayed at The Secret Garden (Cotopaxi) and The Secret Garden Quito while I was in Ecuador and although Cotopaxi was definitely better, this hostel was very good. The breakfast is lovely, lots of fresh fruit and yoghurt and the rooftop terrace is brilliant, the views are great and it's a great place to chill out and meet fellow travellers.... More

We stayed twice and also went to the secret garden Cotopaxi. At secret garden in Quito we loved the rooftop restaurant. The breakfast and dinners were delicious and really enjoyed drinks with incredible views over city at sunset. We had room with shared bath and our first room on lower level was noisy from everyone coming down steps but 2nd... More

The best thing by far about this hostel is the rooftop terrace ,great view and the sociable vibe. Other than that I wouldn't come with many expetations, especially for the private rooms. We had a cave room that smelled of damp and had no windows, it also had a hairball on the floor to welcome us, nice! Also its set... More

This hostel is okay. It is huge, three stories high, and has a great view from the balcony. The prices are decent, I paid $10 for a six bed dorm room. The wifi is good. I wish they had a kitchen or a more diverse menu. I think they overcharge for food. Breakfast is $3 and is simply a roll... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music. ... more   less
