Maqui is a fairly plush bed-and-breakfeast feeling eco lodge in the Ecuadorian cloud forest. The guides, including Carlos and Edison, are extremely knowledgeable and aim to please. The birding is superb, and ancient Yumbo trails add a historical backdrop to the locale. An extensive trail system provides for abundant exploration, and be sure to visit St Lucia lodge up the... I stayed in Maquipucuna for 2 nights. The travel from Quito was organized for free.It was a great experience because of all the nature and the birds and other interesting animals. The workers there are amazing and really take care of you. The birdwatcher guide was amazing explaining me about birds. On both days in the morning we went to... More

We stayed 2 days - 1 night and it was overwhelming. Different options of guided tours in the reserve. Arcenio showed us beautiful birds, explained every tree and plant ant its virtues, guided us through the rainforest. We loved it. He showed us where the Puma ate a porcupine, fortunately we did not meet him directly. Lodging is excellent -... More

I first visited Maquipucuna in 1999 and had always wanted to go back and spend more time in this amazing cloud forest. I finally had the opportunity in February - and I was not disappointed. The forest has matured and the lodge itself has been improved, but it's still remote and quiet and beautiful. Our cabin was comfortable and the... More

This lodge is meant for those interested in nature specifically. It is located in a large reserve that is primarily old growth forest with some secondary forest. The old growth forest is truly a magically experience with a huge number of species of trees, ferns, orchids, epiphytes, etc. There is an incredible number of birds. Many different types of hummingbirds... More

Our 4 night stay was memorable for all the right reasons. We enjoyed fantastic birdwatching with our all seeing and hugely knowledgeable guide Arcenio, regularly interspersed with delicious home cooked food. There were several self guided scenic trails starting from the Lodge with something to suit all levels of fitness and our room overlooking the river had a private terrace... More

Traditional style eco-lodges in the middle of a cloud forest: a wonderful place to take hikes and relax. You are surrounded by amazing nature, have your coffee with hummingbirds, next to the river. Great food and service from the staff, who will definitely succeed in surpassing their enthusiasm and love for the birds, surrounding forest and spectacle bear to you!

We stayed at Maquipucuna for 4 nights as part of our tour of Ecuador. First of all I should say how easy the booking process was, the website is not that great for rate enquiries or booking (apparently this is being updated) but from the first enquiry email all the way through to the reminder confirmation was very professional and... I stayed here for a night because it was the closest hotel in the area where an adventure race was taking place.
