Hotel La Cartuja has garnered appreciation for its spotless premises and central location, making it a convenient base for exploring Quito. The staff's exceptional service and the hotel's old-world charm contribute to a homely and welcoming atmosphere, with a lovely courtyard adding to the appeal. Although the rooms are comfortable and generally quiet, some guests have noted occasional noise and a need for modern updates. While most amenities meet guests' expectations, a few have mentioned minor shortcomings such as the absence of soap. Overall, the hotel is considered a good value for its location and amenities.

Safe environment in a charming old building with lovely, helpful staff. Provided some breakfast even for a very early pickup for the airport, called taxis and arranged a prompt laundry service at a fraction of the price of other hotels. A few takeaway options nearby too. Just great!

A very nice hotel. I felt very comfortable and safe here. Safe area around the hotel, supermarket and restaurants are very close. Rooms nicely furnished and clean. Very good laundry service, the laundry was ready the same day and smelled good and fresh. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

This is a smaller hotel ran by people who take a genuine interest in helping their guests and making them feel at home. We did a couple tours that left earlier in the morning than their usual breakfast time. They got up and made it for us. They gave helpful advice and assisted us in getting a driver or whatever else we needed. Another example of their customer service was as we were heading out the door to take the Teleferico up to view the city they advised us to wear hats (glad we did). One Lady in our group didn’t have one and Rosita (the woman who kept the rooms sparkling clean and always has a smile) ran and got our friend one of hers. The rooms are nice, they have a beautiful courtyard but their customer service is what sets this place apart. We stayed in January before a trip to the Galapagos and came back in February on our way out of Ecuador.

Included Intrepid hotel described as a Boutique hotel but its a run down B&B.
Nice staff but rooms very noisy i was in room 10 and all i heard was every single person coming and going, all the conversations in reception, literally everything as its at the top of the stairs. Shower had no hot water. Room and bathroom smelt like rotten eggs.
Dreading going back for another night of no sleep and eggy bathroom smell.
No lamps. No glasses in the room. No hairdryer. States has soap etc to use in the bathrooms both the shower gel and hand soap empty. Really far from town so its a long walk and tube or uber. Looks great on photos but really shabby and not a boutique hot.
Nice courtyard & staff. Vegan breakfast was a banana!

The property was safe and the attention to security was diligent. The staff (every shift) were always accessible, polite and responsive. The rooms were clean and kept clean. The beds are firm but comfortable. The bathrooms are adequate. There is a nice courtyard for sun and socializing. Breakfast is simple but good. Fresh filtered water is available 24/7. The surrounding area used to be high profile neighborhood but it a bit worn down and late at night caution is recommended. The hotel is near many different restaurants, clubs and outdoor venues.

The hotel is lovely. The staff are excellent. The staff are able to converse in English and are very obliging and helpful. The hotel is a short taxi ride from the old city of Quito and there are casual eating places in walking distance. We have really enjoyed our stay here

Hotel La Cartuja is a charming, timeless oasis in Quito. From the moment you step in the door you are embraced by the warmth, care and hospitality of an amazing staff. The lovely rooms surround a beautiful lawned and landscaped courtyard where you can relax on sun lounges or sit under beautiful red umbrellas. A delicious breakfast is served in a bright and sunny terrace room overlooking the garden. This boutique hotel is a true gem and the willingness of the staff to meet the needs of their guests is second to none. I would definitely return.

Stayed here three times during an Intrepid tour of Ecuador Highlands and Galapagos Islands. The beginning, in the middle and at the end of the trip. It's a nice little cozy very safe feeling place. Front gate and door are always locked (there's a buzzer which rings their phone when you are there leaving very little time to be attacked on the street outside if you came by taxi. Although the reception staff gave me a map and told me not to go to nearby streets in one direction from the hotel or I would be attacked, I actually walked the streets of the neighbourhoods around the hotel on quite a few occasions and never once got killed. Or even hassled.

It is also a short walk to the historic downtown area. You can safely walk there, at least in the day. It's a short taxi trip (which reception will ring for you) if you're concerned or want to go to further away places such as the equator. Reception will also speak Spanish for you to help solve an issue of any company you're dealing with, such as day trips whose buses don't turn up.

Had the same room twice (room 9) and room 5 on the final night. They were both quiet and comfortable. There is a communal loungeroom (with toilet and shower in it, for if you're roommate has the key to your room), my only annoyance with this place is that they for some reason don't understand why strangers sharing an Intrepid room would each need their own key). Interior grassed umbrella and lounge/tables area is a nice place to mingle with other guests, as is a basic kitchen dining area. You get breakfast included, they even ask you how you like your eggs.

The reception and housekeeping staff were always friendly and helpful.
