We used Mario and Brenda's place as our base in Quito over a couple of months travel. The old house is homey and simple but every time we were there it was spotlessly clean, with fresh flowers from the garden a regular feature in the common spaces. The owners do take a hands off approach to guests, in that they...

Location and hostal layout aren't that bad. I was travelling with 4 mates, actually appreciated that Mario offered us to stay in living room for 2 of us due to a lake of space. But I get disapointed cuz we were promised a discount for the 2 living room nights. Promise that hasn't been kept.

Mario's is a gem of a hostel located in a charming barrio in central Quito. The house is beautiful and the rooms are clean and characterful. The hostel is particularly suitable for people who are staying in Quito for a while as you can make the house your home. Guests have full access to the kitchen, living room and garden....

Mario`s is Wonderful. Mario and his wife Brenda are the owners and proprietors, they live here too. It is my home here in Quito. I come here often, since July of 2015. There is such a homey atmosphere here. The house is an old colonial style with wooden floors. There is a kitchen, dinning room and a living room with...

Mario´s house is great (if you look for a quite place). You feel like at home, you got everything you need. If you want to have some fun you just walk a few blocks and get to the Mariscal, if you want to go to downtown is very easy from there and there is a large supermarket around the corner,....

Me and a friend elected to stay Casona de Mario due to it having a kitchen and its general homely look. From the moment we arrived we felt uncomfortable. The woman who opened the gate for us made no effort to smile or even say hello and simply asked if we had a reservation. We were shown to our room and...

Casona de Mario has had a long-standing presence in Quito. I first stayed here ten years ago, and returned this spring in hopes that its good location, friendly travelers, and safe/secure set up would not have changed. Pros: Inexpensive with simple but generally clean rooms and a communal kitchen. Excellent location near La Catolica and the surrounding business district, close...

La casona de Mario was one of the best places we stayed in our South America trip. I honestly dont understand the people who complain about this property. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is a well-equipped kitchen for the guests, several bathrooms and a great garden to relax. The owners of the place, Mario and his wife are really...

It's the third time we've come here with two kids (4 and 5 yrs old) and we warmly recommend the place. The owners are very kind and helpful and the neighbourhood (La Floresta) is secure and very quiet as the hostel is. It's a very nice place to meet peaceful people travelling or studying in Quito. The small kitchen has...

I stayed at Casona de Mario for several weeks, and really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and quaint vibe. The owners were very kind and accommodating, and helped me store luggage, call taxis, etc. La Floresta is a beautiful, fun part of Quito to stay in too: plenty of quirky businesses (look for Ocho y medio coffee shop/ theater, Pobre Diablo...
