As a family of six, we stayed here three separate times coming and going from Quito. This is a great, clean, friendly hotel that is a very good value. It is not a "quaint" place with tons of charm - but it is a very clean, functional small hotel with great service - just what we wanted in Quito after coming in dirty from the mountains or the jungle. The staff is wonderful - Victor the bellman even left his post to drive us to a cafe overlooking the city in time for sunset when we could not find other transportation. Highly recommended.....

During a three-week birding tour of the Ecuadorian mainland, we started and finished our trip here as well as made it a mid-trip stop-over.

It is very comfortable and the food is top-notch. The staff was very helpful. It has a helpful option as a place to leave unnecessary luggage when on side trips.

The rooms vary in size and the ones with one bed can be sort of small, so check this out. The bathrooms are nice. The internet service was either slow or not available.

It was attractive and cosy.

My wife and I used the Hotel Sebastian as our home base when coming and going from the Galapagos and later out into the mountains. I've stayed at and visited other hotels in Quito before, and the Hotel Sebastian is a great choice. It's walking distance to all the good restaurants in Mariscale Sucre (New Town) and even down to a couple big public markets. It's a bit spendy for Ecuador (I think around $85.00/night), but not overpriced like the Colon or Swissotel. Our room was very nice, spacious, and the public areas were kept in pristine condition. The restaurant in the lobby was very good as well although we felt a bit underdressed at times since we were there on an adventure tour. Internet access is available in the lobby. You're supposed to mark your own time and room number down on a piece of paper, which we did, but they never charged us. When we return to Ecuador, we'll most likely stay at the Hotel Sebastian.

Hotel Sebastian was recommended to us by a very experienced trip planner with 30 years' experience in Ecuador. The reviews were good, the photos and descriptions seemed of a very clean, well-maintained but slightly faded Grand Dame in the European style...and the price and proximity to the airport seemed to make sense as we would be transiting through Quito for at least 8 nights over a month of touring in Ecuador. Little did we know that Hotel Sebastian would be our "home" away from home...the staff knew us on sight at each return and always made us feel like they were taking extra special care of us; they stored our luggage when we downsized to smaller packs for the Amazon and the Galapagos and other destinations - even making arrangements to have our bag delivered to us when we accidentally loaded the wrong one with the wrong gear when we left for 5 days! Upon request, they set out coffee and a light breakfast for earlier than 7:00a.m. departures, and the breakfast buffet (with eggs cooked to order) was always good and plentiful, served in a cheerful windowed room with tablecloths and fresh flowers. The business center has several computers and a printer for guests' complimentary use and there is wifi in the rooms; bottled water is provided daily in the room and there is a small refrigerator. Though the bed is hard, it is very comfortable. The front desk staff was helpful in every way and though most spoke English they were patient with our practicing Spanish -- directing us on a map to a pharmacy/drugstore, optical, atm, cell phone store, restaurants (besides the one in the hotel), museums, etc. - all within easy walking from the hotel. Excellent and friendly service! Our compliments and thanks to Marcelo and Maria Belen at reception and Wilson, Victor, Rodolfo and others, the best bellmen ever! **Suggestions: Visit the Tourist Office and Craft Shop nearby on Reina Victoria; great pizza at Al Horno Pizzeria just out the front door and left across the small plaza/park!!

An Ecudaorian hotel with excelent service in every area. If you want a big chain hotel, fine. I prefer one with personal and aattentive service like the Hotel Sebestain. It is large enough to serve your needs and small enough to know your name. It is close enough to the tourist area to walk but just far enough away to not be surrounded by all the noise and crime. Food is great, especially the locros de pappas; sometimes the tip was included in the bill and sometimes not.

The staff takes good care of you at Hotel Sebastian. I had a flu while I was there. They suggested remedies and brought them to my room. One of these remedies was a hot, fresh- squeezed, semi-sweet lemonade. It made me feel so much better. The beds are really comfy, clean, and fresh. The rooms have balcomies with views of the mountains. Try the waffles or pancakes at the breakfast buffet (only $3.00). They are delicious. They serve the best coffee I had in Quito. The staff at the front desk is always there and will help you with anything you need. The waiters are sweet and and sort of fatherly. The lobby is comfortable and charming with fresh roses almost every day. The arrangements are very unique. There is a typically Ecuadoran soup that thet serve in the restaurant for about $3.50. It is made with cheese, avocados, and potatoes. It's so, so good. It's one of the best soups I've ever had. The internet use is free. I tried to save money staying at hotels with what those hotels claimed was a cheaper rate. In each case of roughing it by comparison, I actually ended up paying more. It was frustrating to spend a night on knobbly sheets, cold, and with less services--all for more cash. Strange how it worked out. Perhaps these places are desparate and think all Americans are made of money.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for several days during a recent trip to Ecuador. The hotel is in a business district, although it caters to tourists. It is not near the old town. It is near many shops and restaurants. You think you can walk but, the advice was to always take a cab. The cabs are inexpensive, $2-5 per ride. Everyone will call a cab for you. However, make sure you have the name, address and even directions of where you want to go. One cabbie got us lost looking for a restaurant. We drove all over town and he charged us for his time trying to find a restaurant 8 blocks from the hotel. Liked the hotel, loved the country and its people. I did not like the cabbies very much.

The rooms have balconies, which are great except for the noise. We requested, and received rooms on the upper floors (6 & 7). This seemed to minimize the street / city noise.

The staff spoke English and were very helpful. Breakfast was included every morning. It consisted of fruit, juices, coffee, ham & bacon, cheese, cereal, danish and eggs. It was a pleasant place and way to start each day.

The rooms have cable tv with American channels. The rooms had good water pressure. Sometimes, the water surges. The hotel has its own water purification system. This is appreciated and may also account for the water surging. The rooms were elegant and everything is clean and serviceable. The bathroom has a large counter area. This was a plus.

The bellmen let us leave luggage at the hotel when we flew off to the Galapagos Islands. They were very helpful. You will need to pack and unpack each time you leave. I also had a ton of laundry cleaned for $20.00. It was very nice to leave all my dirty clothes with the front desk when we left for the Galapagos and come back to a batch of laundered clean clothes.

The last two times I stayed here I got little sleep. Quito cab drivers/tour drivers have the nasty habit of blowing the horn when they reach street corners and what's worse, come pick up someone from the hotel. Even at 3:00 am.
Restaurant staff are very nice, but front desk staff are poorly trained and frankly, some of them don't seem to care whether they provide good customer service or not.

For example, the occupants in the room next to mine were adolescent boys who were part of a soccer team. They decided to throw a party in their room one night. I called the front desk twice, and was told they would do something about it. They didn't, and after I called a 3rd time I was asked if I wouldn't mind switching rooms (at 1:00 am).
I have had to stay at this hotel because I travel to Ecuador on business and that's where everyone in my company stays. Thankfully, I have convinced management that we need to find another place. I'm never again staying at the Hotel Sebastian.

We stayed at Hotel Sebastian for 3 nights in May 07.. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The rooms are large and comfortable. The location was very good, within minutes to restaurants and tour operators in the New Town. There is free internet.

The thing I didn't enjoy that much about the hotel was it's size (it is a 7 story hotel, and after staying in smaller inns, it felt impersonal. The rooms while large are also somewhat bland).

Some things to be aware of: breakfast is not included in the price. An average breakfast is served at the restaurant downstairs for $3.90.

We stayed a total of 3 nights in this hotel while visiting Ecuador with Friendly Planet. Everyone at the hotel is very friendly and most helpful in making your stay special. The food in the restaurant is excellent and is priced very reasonably with plentiful portions.

We stayed in a regular room the first part of our stay and the corner suite the second part. Both rooms met our needs. My only negative comment on the rooms would be the hair dryer is due to be updated. The housekeeping staff does a wonderful job the rooms and especially the bathrooms were immaculate.

I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area.

Room Tip: I would ask for higher floor away from the traffic and a room not to near the elevator.
