The rooms and layout and location of this hotel are wonderful. The hotel staff is very accommodating. The included breakfasts were good. One difficulty we had was sketchy wifi. The nice staff kept trying to help, to no avail. Also - our dining experience within the hotel was a disappointment. The food was average. Cocktails were skimpy. The atmosphere somewhat sterile. The servers were friendly. And the roses - ahhh - Ecuadorian roses! So many!

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed four nights in a plaza view room. The room had ornate ceiling and wall detail, marble bathroom, very comfortable king bed, and windows opening up to the plaza below. We really enjoyed having this view as there is much going on every day in the plaza. We also had fun sitting on the steps watching the pigeons, people and activity. All staff were friendly and attentive. They served a nice breakfast each day with eggs to order, one morning they had a buffet. Recommend the Cafe Quinteno which was delicious! Another highlight was a half day private city tour with Juan Carlos, who the Concierge arranged for us. Memorable time!

My family and I had high tea at the Gangotena after a day of sightseeing in the old city. I made the reservation after reading a favorable article. We were all a bit shocked at the Gangotena's approach to high-tea which is best described as "minimalist" despite the hefty price. High-tea consists of little more than a handful of less than tasty truly bite size savory and sweet snacks (if one can even use that term). None of the bite size offerings were particularly flavorful and a few of them were positively awful. The service was mediocre despite there being almost no other diners. The building itself and the atrium where tea is served are indeed beautiful, but management would do well to revise their understanding of high-tea.

Dear Michael: First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to bring this unfortunate series of events to our attention. Rest assured, we will use this opportunity to improve our service and renew our commitment to our guests. Please accept my sincerest apologies on behalf of Hotel Casa Gangotena. We hold ourselves to the highest standard, and we’re sorry to hear we missed the mark on this occasion. We stayed at Casa Gangotena on two different nights within a week between our travels to the Andean Cloud Forest and the Galapagos. We had two different but wonderful rooms, one in the garden overlooking the very pretty courtyard garden and fountain and one overlooking the plaza. Both had a feeling of old fashioned luxury with modern amenities. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings of our stays and the food and service was quite superb. On one of the evenings we had a 7 course tasting menu which was staggeringly good. From ceviche, stone crab and tuna to the most wonderful chicken and beef, it was a gastronomic delight. If you are planning on staying in Quito old town and your budget allows I cannot recommend this luxurious boutique hotel enough.

Everything about this luxury hotel is beautiful. The service was proper and check-in was efficient. Beautiful and elegant room, nice marble bathroom and bathtub with luxury toiletries. Relaxing courtyard for tea filled with orchids, soothing massage, charming wood paneled bar, very nice breakfast buffet and excellent restaurant for lunch or dinner. Enjoyed the rooftop terrace for a cocktail overlooking the lights on the square. However, their price point is a bit expensive for Quito, even for a luxury hotel. It does feel like a protected little oasis surrounded by quite a lot of activity during the day, but the old town is deserted at night and it is not safe to leave at night. But, no reason to leave at night because their restaurant is truly wonderful.

My wife and I enjoyed 2 wonderful nights stay at this beautiful luxurious historic boutique hotel in Old Town Quito. From the moment you are greeted at the door, you feel like royalty. The staff and customer service received was outstanding. The guestrooms are beautifully appointed, very large in size, lush and luxurious. Our king bed was very comfortable, along with all of the rooms fine furnishings. Our guest room and the hotel amenities offered for guests, were first class. Location of the hotel was perfect, located along popular San Francisco Square. You are within easy walking distance to many places of interest including; Museums, Historic Churches, Shopping, Restaurants and more. This historic renovated historic Mansion definitely exceeds everything a hotel of this high caliber offers and much more. Treat yourself to a touch of class. You will not be disappointed! We experienced numerous challenges during our four night stay. The hotel lacked basic, necessary information about local events and other pertinent details that were impacting the hotel and our stay. Twice we requested to speak to management but were told he had gone home early each time. We never saw management during our entire stay Monday -Friday. At other Relais and Château properties management is omnipresent- stopping by guests’ tables at breakfast or dinner to check in on how their stay is going. Greeting guests in the lobby, checking in at least once. But here - nothing. It is my opinion that some level of management is desperately needed to aid the front desk staff as the service failures were frustrating and bewildering, they had no clear leader. This property is revered as the nicest hotel in Quito, service should match. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the Front desk team is extremely disorganized. Unfortunately, due to the poorly managed and curiously misinformed FOH team, we had numerous inconveniences and stresses during our stay. Bianca was able to help sort out many of the headaches we encountered and I am immensely grateful for her professional assistance. At one point we were just going to move to an airport hotel after the front desk was unable to correctly book our airport transfer at the correct time (after verifying it three times -it was still wrong and we were in track to miss our flights and our sailing). Bianca was able to convince us to stay and finally arranged a pick up at the correct time. She acknowledged there are issues be she did her best to correct them. She encouraged me to please fill out the guest survey she was emailing me however it was never sent. I have emailed her and the FOH team twice more requesting it, and still nothing a week later. Bladimir was an outstanding server and we are grateful to have benefited from his excellent service during our stay and he helped the hotel get another star. Spa treatments were very nice and highly recommended. They are also beyond reasonably priced. I would say to travelers that need things handled correctly and thoroughly, triple check everything the front desk arranges for you or inform you about. Better yet, make all arrangements yourself or through a third party.

This was one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever experienced. The service and staff were amazing and the rooms were beautiful. The concierge, Danielle, was so helpful (she accompanied me to four pharmacies to attempt to obtain antimalarials that somehow never got into our baggage) and also gave a great tour of the hotel and taught us about its history. Breakfasts were excellent and the staff most attentive. Location was amazing.

We stayed at the Casa Gangotena for 3 nights after we left Mashpi Lodge and before we went to the Galapagos. Our room was huge-it was originally the dining room when the hotel was still someone's home. We had a view of the courtyard which was peaceful and quiet. The bathroom was enormous and marble. The staff was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The breakfast, which was included, was extensive with a great variety of foods.
