Detailed Reviews
This hotel is right on the Plaza Foch which is busy all night long. The fact they provide you with ear plugs tells you everything! But with the windows closed (there is A/C) and if you live in the middle of a city anyway, you shouldn't have any problems (even without the plugs). The location is really convenient for anything you want to do and the arts and crafts market is a short walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful and complimentary breakfast buffet was set up next door, which worked fine and a good enough selection of hot and cold food. You also get a voucher for some free cocktails at Urban, across the square (which happens to have happy Hour 2 for 1 between midday and 8pm) and discount vouchers for nearby restaurants. The rooms are pretty spacious and clean, with a nice bathroom, shower has good water pressure. There is a safe in the wardrobe. If you have mobility issues, you might want to check with the hotel as the lift is in between floors so there's probably 6 or 7 steps (only) either up and down to your room floor.

This hotel is in the heart of Plaza Foch in the Mariscal District. Great location for walking to restaurants and bars. We also did the Quito bus tour and the hotel was right by a ticket sales and pick up point. Room was very clean and modern. Breakfast is included at the restaurant next door. There were not many options for vegans but it was sufficient.

I consider myself to be a seasoned traveler as I travel extensively for both professional and personal reasons. On my last two nights in Quito, after having spent two full weeks traveling Ecuador, I booked a suite on the top floor. I wanted to be centrally located, and I wanted to stay in a modern facility. That being said, my stay at the Nu House was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had at a hotel. There were many issues at the Nu House, but let me highlight for you some of the worst ones:
1. I was put into Suite 505, which is the smallest of the hotel’s five suites. However, it costs just as much as suites almost twice the size with wrap around corner balconies. This simply did not seem fair. However, this would be the least of my problems at this hotel.
2. Upon entering the room, I discovered that the room had not been cleaned properly. There was about a ÂĽ inch of dust on the bar top, enough that one could write ones name. After asking the front desk on four separate occasions to have the room properly cleaned, it was finally done. It amazed me that my request was ignored by the staff over the course of a full day. An unclean room is totally unacceptable.
3. Over the course of a two day stay, the elevator was out of order for about 90% of the time. The front desk kept telling me that it would be fixed, but it would go back in service and just as quickly go out of service. I was staying on the top floor, so I actually paid extra for the privilege of walking up and down all of those stairs. The worst part was having to walk down the stairs the morning of my check out. It was just another reminder of how poorly the property was maintained.
4. The A/C did not function properly in the room. It was not the end of the world, but the temperature was never quite comfortable.
5. There was no Wifi in any of the rooms. Seriously? One had to go down to the lobby or use the business center, which only had two computers usually occupied by staff playing solitaire. Nice.
6. Now this is the main issue. I had a 6:35am flight back to the US on the day of my checkout. This meant that I was up at 3:00am with a checkout at 4:00am. I really wanted to get as much sleep as possible prior to my flight. Suite 504 across the hall threw a party with a live band. The noise was deafening. Between the music, all of the guests (my estimate was more than 30), the door opening and slamming every two minutes, the shouts, the laughter, etc., it was all simply too much. The management of the hotel condoned this activity as they did absolutely nothing to stop it. Upon check out, the music could be heard clearly in the lobby which was five flights down. People were wandering in off of the street at 4:00am to head up to the party. This property is located in the Mariscal, and security was not screening non-guests wandering into the hotel. It was a total security risk. I brought all of this to the attention of the front desk clerk, and he simply shrugged his shoulders. He seemed very unconcerned about the noise and safety issues associated with the party in Suite 504. He also seemed equally unconcerned with the dissatisfaction of the last night of my stay.
I have since followed up with hotel management about all of these issues through its website, and of course (no shock here), there was no response.
As such, I would STRONGLY recommend that if you have any notion of staying at this hotel that you might want to make alternative arrangements. This property has serious issues, and the comfort, safety, and happiness of its guests is not the main priority of Nu House management.

2 key points killed this hotel for us...
1. Got in from our flight and was highly recommended by the front desk restaurant next door that the hotel owns, azucar beach. The food was crap and my wife and I both got food poisoning- my wife really bad! When I told the front desk the next morning, she wouldn't even look up from the computer to acknowledge us, just said "oh" and kept on typing. That is horrible customer service from a supposedly 4 star hotel.
2. The hotel doesn't have a little noise, it has ALOT of noise. We have been traveling around the world for almost a year now and have stayed in many, many hotels, and this was by far the noisiest hotel of them all. Loud drunken partying, car alarms, and sirens all night long. Not a good combination when you are awake with food poisoning.
This hotel is what I call, a 4 star facade. Looks good from a far, but the veil is uncovered for what it really is when you arrive. Spend a few extra bucks and go right down the street to a real 4 star hotel with great food and true 4 star service and rooms...the Marriott.

My boyfriend and I had always wanted to stay in the suite at this hotel and go out for a night on the town....romantic dinner, dancing.....I have to say the suite was beautiful, but I ended up staying alone in my $200 per night room. When I checked in, I advised the reception that my boyfriend would be arriving later. She told me it was no problem and I wrote his info on the check-in documents. When he arrived, we went up together to show him our room. No one questioned him. After a night out, we returned to the hotel. The guard would not permit my boyfriend to come up to our room. He had to go to another hotel and I spent the night alone. The next morning I went to the front desk to make a complaint and was told "sorry, what a shame". I explained that my boyfriend is in the military and that this was last night before leaving for a one month training in the Amazon. I asked for some type of compensation and was offered chocolate! It turns out that my boyfriend had a key waiting for him at the front desk, but no one had checked. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience and a total waste of money.

Dear Ms. Travellover5704: Thanks for your time, and for your review about "Our anniversary was ruined". We very much regret any inconvenience caused during your stay, however you need to put in consideration that they only sought to preserve its integrity and security in every way. Because any inconvenience sucite within our facilities, direct and full responsibility for our own. Being so the case that our reception staff and night security, following notice to give us a person (her boyfriend) was going to follow, we had this information, however late at night there were two gentlemen, a little past cocktail who demanded access to your room. The decision was made at that time basically taking into account their security, not to allow access, as was the situation at that time. We thank you for your understanding and try to make your stay enjoyable, so we regret any inconvenience to ensure their safety procedures could have caused. Best Regards Sales & Marketing Manager

We travelled to Galapagos & Ecuador mainland for 17 days and we just stayed in Nu House for one night - our last night in Quito. We checked into a triple room with three comfortable beds, flat screen TV, air conditioner and a mini safety box. The shower was great with plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. However, the room was extremely small. When we checked in, we were handed some coupons for welcome drinks and breakfast. Since we needed to leave at 4:30am in the morning for a 6:30 am flight, we asked the gentleman in the reception desk if they could prepare a simple breakfast box for each of us. The gentleman didnt speak very fluent English and we were not sure about his answer. Later we found that breakfast were not served right there in the hotel restaurant but in a nearby cafe, and the cafe didnt open for business till 8am. So we thought our request for breakfast boxes might not be entertained. We checked out at 4:30am next day and to our surprise, three breakfast boxes were waiting for us. Each box contained a huge sandwitches with veggi, tuna fish, ham, cheese and eggs, and also a green apple and a yogurt drink. It was really out of our expectation. A very nice memory to complete our Ecuadorean tour.

After the rave reviews and the no. 2 position at the time it held for hotels in Quito we thought we were on a winner and booked for 3 nights! Booked the romance package....no romance at all! The champage was not waiting in our rooms nor was it delivered later nor the fondue chocolates...the air conditioner in the suite was noisy, we requested reception for someone to look at it...no one attended...could not sleep due to all the noise down below in the square...the suite is located right next to the elevator shaft...also plumbing we could here water pumps all night.....breakfast was...well lets say very very ordinary....also no wireless internet in rooms...we checked out that morning and moved to the Radisson which is excellent!!

Our travel agent suggested the Nu House because it is so centrally located, but failed to mention it was in a very congested area.. Upon our arrival in Quito, it took over 30 minutes just to get the last block and a half to the front door.
We were greeted as if we were not expected and took quite a long time to check in. We given a "quiet" room which was suitable for a single person-I mean tiny- with just one bed. The noise from the discos and nightclubs went on until 3-4am. and it was very loud in our quiet room. The car alarms never stopped. At 7am we went to the Q for breakfast, they were not ready for service and the music was ear splitting. When we got something to eat it was just OK. We cancelled the balance of our stay there.

We stayed at Nu House our first weekend in Ecuador, and our last (we sandwiched a trip to Galapagos in between). The first weekend was good; our second we had HUGE issues with the staff/customer service. When we checked out the first weekend, we confirmed our upcoming reservation for the following weekend; there were three of us and we needed at least two beds. They confirmed the reso: good to go. When we checked in the second weekend, the manager said they only had one tiny room with a double bed available, (so small it had no room for a cot, or even someone to sleep on the floor). Clearly their error, but she refused to take ownership for it. She said we were welcome to purchase a second room (a single). We decided to pay for the single, and lo and behold, they take us up to our pricey extra room, and it is a big room with two double beds. Apparently in the time the manager conned us into paying for a second room we didn't need, the bigger room mysteriously became available (and she didn't feel the need to tell us). Moreoever, the newly available double had a broken window and plaster falling from the ceiling throughout the room. She refused to provide a refund, and let us know if we had issues, we could feel free to air them on their website. This ruined an otherwise pleasant stay. Unless you want to run the risk of paying for a room you don't need, I definitely do NOT recommend Nu House.

Dear Guest, We thank you for your valuable comments. We regret that you had an unfortunate experience during your second stay in our hotel. However, the reservation that was made by Despegar online was for a double twin bed room. During the time of your stay, we did not have available the double full room that you might have needed for your stay, this was not specify for Despegar online. Since we did not have these rooms available the only other option was to offer you an extra standard room. We are very sorry that you had this experience, but we would like to invite you to visit us again. We´re looking forward to hear very soon from you Best Regards, NU HOUSE BOUTIQUE HOTEL
