Stayed here my first night in Ecuador. The bed was comfy and warm, and the shower was hot (a real bonus!). The breakfast was tasty - however the eating are was a little small and formal, and the noise outside the room at night was incredible - it woke me up from the jet-lagged sleep which was impressive!

We stayed at Hotel Villa Nancy (not to be confused with the mediocre B&B Hostal villa Nancy - also in Quito) for 5 days in between and after trips around Ecuador.

The hotel is small (12 rooms) and has a relaxing atmosphere. It is in a nice quiet area with much less theft than La Mariscal, yet easily within reach of that district's restaurants and bars. Although you can see the occassional plane, any noise is negligible.

We stayed in two of the suites on the third floors both of which had nice views. One slept four and had a kitchen, the other had a double bedroom and a lounge area. Both were kept spotless and had some of the best hot showers we found in South America.

The staff were multilingual, incredibly helpful and very friendly. They were happy to help with laundry at any hour and served us a partial breakfast before 6am when we had an early start. They were also helpful in locating specific things (we needed a tube to package a spear for the flight) and ordered us pizza one night when we were too exhausted to move.

I can't recomment this place more highly. It cost us $52 per night.

This hostel is in the Guapolo area, far above the city.  I didn't realize how far away it was and how difficult it would be to find restaurants nearby.  Other than that, it was a nice place, with hardwood floors (a little squeaky but functional).

Not sure where the positive reviews are coming from, but I am a real traveler with real (and recent) pictures, and reasonable expectations for a 3-star hotel. My advice? Stay away. We were booked here for two nights as part of a Tripmasters package. We had a late arrival, the hotel looked fine from the inside. Once inside, we were greeted cheerfully by a young overnight reception clerk who checked us in and took us to our room. It was downhill from there. We were given room 5, which was dark, dank, and dated.  Our main concern however was the bathroom window which was open to the outside and could not be secured.

Upon request, we were moved to another room upstairs (which is where I took the many pictures in this review). Apart from the moldy carpets, cheap flat mattress, and broken closet door handles etc.  There was potentially dangerous piping hanging from the drop ceiling, old frayed towels, a toilet tank covered in chipped wood-grain contact paper, no hot water in the sink, and the overall temperature of the room was uncomfortably cold. Despite the fact that we'd booked a pre paid package, we only managed to spend what was left of the night there, before checking out ( at additional expense) as early as possible the next morning.

It is a small hotel far from the city center (you need a taxi to go to the city). A small number of rooms may be acceptable in size and comfort, but others are not. In some of them there is a strange odor. Breakfast is more than modest, and the service prettty unfriendly. In the near environment you find only one or two restaurants. The laundry service is not reliable at all.

We enjoyed our stay at Villa Nancy because it is comfortable and the staff are friendly. We had a family room but there are no facilities for kids. Also, there was considerable noise from a party/disotheque nearby which cost us some hours of slep during our first night.

I would never recommend this place. I expected hot water and sleep. I got neither. Only cold water at night. There was hot water at 6:30 AM. It is across the street from a very loud night club. There was blaring music until around 1:00 AM. At around 3:00 AM a building alarm kicked in. It blared continuously with occasional 5-10 second breaks. I left at 7:30 AM and the alarm was still blaring. I also heard someone walk down the hallway at 4:00 AM. The walls are paper thin. Who the heck was that!!

We were only here for one night before our plane took off from Quito the next morning, but boy was it memorable!

To begin with, the Villa had more of a dormitory/hostal feel. Walking up to our room we passed people sitting in their rooms with the doors open and there were people walking about late into the night. The staff, rooms and breakfast were fine. Nothing to write home about.

The best part though was the rhythmic thumping from the disco behind the villa. From the time we got there at night till about 1:30 am, we heard all the drum and base we could handle. Luckily, since the villa was right under a flight path, this was interrupted every now and then with a jet flying overhead.

But the real kicker was after the discotheque died down... oh say about 4am in the morning, the security alarm for the building across the way went off. And not just a recurring pattern. More of 1 minute on, 2 minutes off...4 minutes on, 1 minute off. Just enough for no one in the area to get any sleep. We left as soon as possible the next morning and decided we'd sleep at the airport. Admittedly, this is no fault of the Villa, but they did nothing to acknowledge or attempt to make amends.

Overall, the place was in a noisy section of the neighborhood and since the Villa was behind a high wall and a gate, perhaps not the best area of town...

Consider other places first.

The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly, the breakfast was good....but while eating breakfast the first morning of a ten day photo trip, someone entered the second floor room of a member of our group and ripped off all his camera gear - around $9000 worth. The theft occurred in a matter of minutes. The staff nor the policia were not at all helpful in dealing with the incident.
The property is surrounded by a wall and locked gate, but upon further investigation, the second floor quest rooms can be easily accessed from the adjoining roofs through the windows of several rooms or someone on the inside handing stuff out through the windows to someone waiting on the roof so as not to be detected in the lobby. If you stay at Hotel Villa Nancy, bring a steel cable and padlock to chain your locked luggage to something stationary in your room while you are gone. Also bring earplugs to deaden the sound of the loud music playing somewhere close by all night long.

There are two Villa Nancys in Quito – the Villa Nancy B&B (which from the outside looks scummy & run-down) and this Villa Nancy, which is rather charming.

We stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour for one night before heading out to the Galapagos Islands and one more night when we returned. When we arrived, late in the afternoon after returning from the jungle we had two bags of wet, dirty washing which the reception staff washed & dried for us before we left for the Galapagos. We were in two different rooms for our two nights & both had broken toilets!! (The cistern on one wouldn’t refill & the other wouldn’t flush!!).

What is the best way to get to Hotel Villa Nancy from the airport?
Answer from VILLANANCY
Saludos.
