Cerro Alegre is a lovely place to stay. Voga is well located, very quiet and provides nice breakfasts. The hotel was virtually empty as many people cancelled trips to Chile due to fears about political unrest. Valparaiso is a beautiful city and we never felt unsafe. The street art is remarkable. Highly recommend the city and Voga Guesthouse.

We were warmly welcomed by Michelle into the reception area which was the original sitting room of the family who built the house in 1880’s. The wallpaper is the original and stunning. This place for us was like getting a feel of what it was like for those early European settlers. The view down onto the bay is beautiful from the terrace. After a great walking tour and an afternoon up and down the hills enjoying at the murals and artistic expressions of discontent with the government - often so cleverly and subtly expressed - we came back to the hotel to tea and carrot cake which Filipe brought up to us on the terrace. Both evenings we walked to local restaurants just five minutes away and had excellent meals and service. Charlene, who works in the evenings gave us tips on where to visit in Santiago, our next stop. We are so glad that we didn’t change our plans after seeing the troubles here on the news as it has been an unforgettable experience. Not once did we feel unsafe or in danger.

While it was difficult to find the Voga hotel--a bit convoluted path to get there, and no signage or other indication--it turned out to be a charming place. We were given a top floor room with an astounding view of Valparaiso and the water, with ships coming and going, etc. We could even see it from our bed. Because the room was in attic of a former house, we kept hitting our heads on roof, but otherwise the room was nicely appointed, clean, comfortable, etc. The location was wonderful too, walking distance to nearly everything, including some lovely restaurants and an irresistible pastry shop around the corner. The included breakfast was simple, but tastefully prepared The hosts (Michelle & Charlene) were wonderfully warm, gracious, and helpful beyond the call of duty (Michelle called her husband to help us get clear directions for driving out of Valparaiso when we left. Other than perhaps their needing to put out a sign or something, this was a good choice for visiting Valparaiso.

We spent 3 days at hotel voga. Michelle and Nicole could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Michelle organised pick-up, drop off and a day at the vineyards. hotel Voga is located high up in Cerro Alegre but the walk was not too bad. They are also close to lots of great restaurants and bars. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend

My parents and I stayed here for two nights while we were in Valparaíso, and we loved it. The hotel blends in with the other houses on the street from the outside, but once you enter the red facade, you can see how it has been transformed. Our room was perfect for three people, and the bathroom was also gorgeous for an old building. The hotel as a whole somehow managed to flawlessly combine a modern boutique style with historical architecture. Breakfast was also fantastic. You can't beat the area -- Cerro Allegre is filled with cute cafes, restaurants, etc. Highly recommend this hotel!
