Great views of the harbor, fun to walk to different places from the hotel or take advantage of the mini-bus stop right there at the hotel. Very nice breakfast and wonderful and helpful staff. The staff is always around very helpful for any questions

Great location, with an amazing view of the harbour. Small, but clean rooms and lovely staff. There are a lot of stairs, so keep that in mind when bookings. From Sutherland House we were able to walk to Pablo Neruda's historical home and to the downtown core, though I would suggest taking a taxi instead. Wish we could have stayed... More

Stayed here twice now. Both times the owner has been around and very friendly. You get a welcome drink to enjoy when you arrive. Good clean room. Great friendly service, and the owner has 3 or 4 secure car spaces which is always a bonus in Valparaiso. We stayed in 201 which has a lovely balcony overlooking the city and... More

Noisy floor hotel with small rooms, a lot of stairs without elevator, and no garage! At the moment of check in, the owner told us to leave the car on the front door that he would park it later that night on his garage. I gave him the car Keys. He gave us a lot of chat at that time,... More

- Beautiful property located high up on the hill, meaning that you will walk downhill towards all of the attractions (which is convenient!) and a short taxi ride back up at the end of the night. -Staff was warm and welcoming, going out of their way to make sure we knew where to go, what to eat, what we had... I stayed here for a night with my girlfriend in February 2015 and we loved it. We had room 302, with an amazing view of the bay and the hills. The staff was very helpful - they made us fresh eggs in the morning and greeted us with a welcome drink which we enjoyed on the patio overlooking the city.... More

My friends and I stayed in Valparaiso for a few days. Our first night was in a hostel Verde Limon, which is in the party area...great area but too loud. So we stayed at Sutherland for 2 nights which is not too far but defintely in a much quiter area up in the hill on Cerro Allegre. The hotel is... More

First of all, my girlfriend and I lucked out by being given a room with a large terrace on the second floor; this terrace overlooked a large part of this incredible city. Claudio, the owner, and particularly Gabriella (Gabriella, if you read this, I hope I've spelled your name correctly!) were both charming and very helpful hosts. This city is... More

If you are visiting Chile you should go to Valparaiso and its hills. And go to "Cerro alegre" where you will find great views, walks and restaurants, and nice boutique hotels. Don't imagine great luxury but nice homy houses transformed into hotels. Sutherland House is one of those. Reasonably priced with Claudio the owner always present. He even parks your... More

The owners at Sutherland House were lovely, we had a welcome drink and a history of the building from a very proud owner. The rooms are clean and tidy but not very big. The views from the hotel are awesome because the hotel is situated on the ridge at the top of the town. Breakfast was made up of home... More
