South America's first container hotel (25 containers were upcycled to form the 21 rooms, reception + breakfast area). Also the first urban winery in the history of Valparaiso and the first in Chile which allows tourists and hotel guests to taste directly from the barrels with the winemaker. Guests can also participate in winemaking activities during harvest (April, May and the first half of June). We soon hope to open the tasting room, wine shop and wine bar (as soon as alcohol licensing is approved).

My girlfriend and I stayed here almost by accident for New Year's. We were so glad we ended up at the Winebox after the hotel we initially booked tried to raise our room price upon our arrival in Valpo. We called the Winebox and they were able to immediately accommodate us at a very reasonable price with rooms for the 2 nights we were in town. The hotel is quirky, constructed mainly of shipping containers and other re-purposed materials. The rooms are not huge, but all have great views of the bay, are quite comfortable, and are decorated with old, iconic movie posters from the 1960's and 70's (e., "Shaft," "Debbie Does Dallas"). The panoramic view of the city and bay from the rooftop deck/bar is stunning and the service throughout was friendly and extremely helpful. We also did a fun all-Chilean wine tasting with Grant (one of the hotel's owners) on our first night. We had such a good time that we ended up changing our plans in order to stay at the hotel for a great New Year's Eve dinner and celebration. The location in the hills above the city can be tough for those who have trouble walking, but we found it nice to be a little away from the madness of the city, while still being close enough to walk around and explore the rest of the town quite easily on foot. We would definitely stay here again the next time we're in Valpo and highly recommend it to other travelers.

Staying in a hotel made of recycled shipping containers is pretty cool but what made our stay at Winebox so memorable are all the little things that this hotel does right. The rooftop patio is amazing - incredible views, quirky furnishings and a bar that sells the best pisco sours we had in Chile. Made with their house-made infused pisco, the pineapple was my personal favourite. The rooftop wine tasting with Winebox’s owner and winemaker Grant is a must do. At 15,000 CLP it’s a bargain and a thoroughly entertaining, informative and a super fun evening. We were very pleasantly surprised at how great the daily breakfast on the rooftop patio was. There was wide variety of delicious offerings - my favourites were the assortment of freshly squeezed juices, poached eggs, homemade guacamole, grilled tomatoes and great coffee. Each room has a great selection of reasonably priced Chilean wine (we had 5 bottles of red and 4 white) that you can purchase. We drank the Sauvignon blanc and it was fantastic. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We had thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at Winebox Valparaiso. It was one of the highlights of our trip and we would definitely recommend it.

This is probably one of our favorite (definitely most unique) hotels that my husband and I have ever stayed in! We stayed in the Malbec Suite, which was amazing. HUGE room, king sized bed, full kitchen with large dining room table, as well as a huge balcony with plenty of seating and a table out there as well. My husband and I kept joking that it felt like a real studio apartment and we should be having friends over with all of the space! (We actually did have new friends that we met there join us for pizza and wine in the room one night). We also really liked how the room was stocked with unique (at least to us) wines from Chile for very reasonable prices. It made it so easy to open up and enjoy on the balcony. Other than the room, breakfast was good, and we loved the rooftop bar at night. Since the hotel is high on a hill, it was nice to do all of our exploring of Valpo during the day, and then feel like there was no reason to leave the hotel at night. On the first night, we did a wine tasting with Grant, which I highly recommend. He's definitely a wine legend and great to talk with, especially if you're really into wine like we are! They don't have a full restaurant, but they do make pizzas and cheese plates (which we got two of the nights). Our last night was Christmas so they had a full BBQ for us and the roof top turned into a party. It was really fun to talk to guests from all over and meet new people. If you are traveling to Valparaiso, I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially the Malbec Suite!

Definitely one of the most unique hotels we’ve ever stayed in. From the minute we pulled up outside we were excited. A hotel made completely from recycled shipping containers!! We were met at the door by Ellie who was an absolute gem and really added to our experience. She was so helpful and informative in her gentle unobtrusive manner. We were shown to our room which had a small balcony over looking the harbor and ocean. Everything you needed was here, a full kitchen, double bed couch, basic utensils, tea coffee etc and in the bathroom a lovely range of toiletries. They Also provide a generous selection of wines in your room for you to purchase if you wish.Another unique feature is the fact that the rooms and main entrance are keyless and you use your finger print to gain access!! I’ve never seen this anywhere I’ve ever stayed before, very impressive. Breakfast is on the rooftop terrace with its breathtaking views of the Valparaíso hills and ocean. It’s a buffet with lots of healthy options including home made smoothies beads eggs vegetables and fruit. Grant the owner usually mans the coffee machine and makes sure everyone gets there hot drink of choice to start the day. The vine box doesn’t have a restaurant but does offer pizzas in the evenings and small cheese plates which are perfect for sharing. The staff will also direct you to other lovely restaurants that are within walking distance or a cheap Uber ride away. Overall this is a totally unique and different concept of hotel and Wine learning paired together and I wish Grant and his team the very best with there future plans and continued success.

At the winebox your room is an old shipping container that has been artfully refashioned as a hotel room. And it comes with four bottles of Chilean wine that you might be interested in buying. The owner knows his wines and does tastings on the rooftop, which are loads of fun. He has worked in the wine business for years, starting as s native New Zealander in Sauvignon blanc country then moving to Chile. The rooftop view is fantastic. You can see the whole city and ocean. They put on a nice breakfast spread but after that, they only make pizzas so you have to eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner. They recommended the nearby et spiritu sancto which was fantastic. They also will do wine tours if you book in advance. Uber makes it easy to get anywhere so don’t be put off by the location, high above the city. Totally worth it.

Interesting and spacious rooms. Loads of outside space. Excellent breakfast.

The location is ideal for exploring all of Valparaiso and offers amazing views over the city.

Grant, the owner, was really helpful in arranging things for us to do, including a bespoke tour of local vineyards. I'd also strongly recommend the hotel wine tasting!

We stayed several nights in Winebox. Definitely opt for the room with the view of the harbor and a balcony, we really enjoyed watching the comings and goings. Valparaiso is edgy but the hotel is very secure. Breakfasts were very good with a large variety of foods. The top floor is the breakfast area and then is used for cocktails and pizzas later in the day. We participated in the wine tasting which was both educational and entertaining. Afterward we enjoyed spending time with some of the other couples from the hotel that had participated in the wine tasting.

We really like the environmentally friendly concept. The location is also good, offering great views of the city. However when it comes to service, the hotel is not top-notch. Breakfast is served not before 8:30 h, and even then not everything is ready. The check-in was very nice though.

The rooms are great, but instead of a kitchen it would have made more sense to offer some tea and coffee making facilities. The neighborhood is very noisy, especially the dogs at night, plus you hear everything in your room, when guests come home late.

Overall we can still recommend the hotel, but they should do something about the breakfast.

Hey guys, not too sure what happened with breakfast as we take it really seriously and currently have the highest rated breakfast in the city (out of 450+ hotels) on booking.com (9.2 out of 10). Also every room has an electric kettle plus a selecion of 8 different teas and instant coffee and also an Italian stovetop for those who are travelling with their own coffee beans (both percolated and expresso coffee is available at breakfast). The neighbourhood is actually super quiet within a Valparaiso context (it is super residential and thus there are no bars or clubs nearby to keep you up). That said, Valparaiso is a city with 40,000 stray dogs and there's not much we can do about that. If you are a light sleeper you should probably be travelling with earplugs anywhere you go in Latin America........ In any case we're glad you can still recommend the hotel and we hope to see you again. Cheers!

This hotel fits right in with the spirit of Valparaiso. The entire hotel is creatively built and decorated. Wonderful terraces to lounge in. The rooftop terrace have a wonderful bird’s eye view of all of Valparaiso. We stayed in a suite, which was HUGE and had a great 180 view balcony. You can also participate in a wine tasting conducted by the owner (modest extra charge) which was informative and all around wonderful. The hotel is also within walking distance of La Sebastiana - one of Pablo Neruda’s homes. Overall great introduction to Valparaiso and Chile generally.

The girls who work here are wonderful. They are polite, patient and speak English very well. The roof deck is lovely and has windows on the sides to protect against wind. The rooms are very nice, well decorated, well stocked with kitchen materials, and the bed was comfortable.

There are a lot of stairs and no elevator, and I would not stay here if going up and down stairs with your luggage will be difficult.

The parking was tricky - the cars whip around that corner and it is tight parking. But the girls help you through it.

The breakfast was fantastic. Complete with mimosas, cappuccino, custom made eggs, fresh fruit and really delicious granola.

To the hotel, the bathroom light needs to be brighter!
