#26 of 253 in Santiago
Luciano K is a boutique hotel with 38 bedrooms, a blend of period and art deco design. On the hotel's ground floor you will find the entrance hall, bar and restaurant. A roof top terrace of 300 square meters acommodates: the spa, sauna, bar, heated swimming pool; and, spectacular views over Parque Forestal and Alameda Avenue. The building is a cultural jewel in the heart of the gastronomic Lastarria neighbourhood of Santiago, originally designed by the arquitect Luciano Kulczewski in the 1920s. At the time, it was the tallest building in Chile, the first with a lift and central heating. The glamour and elegance of the 1920s is showcased in the architecture and design, accompanied by the highest levels of comfort and technology you will find at the best international hotels.

I had booked this hotel through booking.com but it is important that this information be known to everyone. This hotel is at the EPICENTER of the riots in Santiago. Neighboring buildings are BURNED and have smashed windows. The building walls are completely filled with graffiti. When I arrived my local driver told me I should not stay at the hotel. It was unsafe. I went inside to speak to the front desk about the problem. There were lots of people congregated outside and a tire fire as well. This was just not a place that we could stay - it was not safe. However, the booking manager (Michael Holland) refused to refund our two night stay. He stated that other guests had arrived no problem. The lobby was EMPTY. The cafe/restaurant on the first floor had the chairs turned up. Not sure what guests he was referring to. I gave them the courtesy of walking inside and speaking with someone. I understand they could be struggling because of the situation; however, it is completely unacceptable to MISLEAD bookers. What a horrible experience and what horrible customer service from Michael Holland. AVOID THIS HOTEL.

We chose this hotel for its location - it’s the only hotel in Lastarria where the best restaurants are located. It’s easy walking distance to Pablo Neruda’s house in Bellavista and the San Cristobal funicular railway and its viewpoint. In the other direction it’s only a short walk to Museo de Bellas Artes. The breakfast was top quality served on the seventh floor terrace. Our room was quiet clean and comfortable. Excellent shower. Above all, the staff are extraordinarily helpful and considerate. For example, for our second night, a Saturday, Adolfo had booked a great restaurant for us on his own initiative because we’d enjoyed the place he’d recommended the previous evening. We could never have got a table at the last minute - how good is that! Yes there is graffiti on the wall outside, but there is graffiti on every building in Santiago. The inside is beautiful and it is a historic building. Yes there are demonstrations a block away at Plaza Italia but there are demos in many many cities in the world. Daniel gave us level- headed practical advice and we felt safe to come and go. We are a retired couple and we enjoyed walking around Santiago day and night and can honestly recommend this hotel.

My cousin and I stayed at the Luciano K for 3 nights in February 2020. When our airport transfer arrived at the hotel, I thought we had arrived at the wrong location. The front looks absolutely nothing like the photos on the hotel website. It is completely covered in graffiti. Much of the sidewalk is missing. Our driver assured us we were at the right place. Hotel staff absolutely does their best given the challenges associated with the hotel’s location. But, as we discovered on our first night, the ongoing nightly protests/demonstrations are based in the park, directly across the street from the hotel. There are times during the late afternoon/evening, that you cannot safely leave the hotel, nor try to get back into the hotel. On a weeknight during our stay, an Uber driver dropped us off at around 5 pm, as close as he could get to the hotel, given that protestors were already amassing. This was about 1 ½ - 2 blocks from the hotel. As soon as we started walking towards the hotel, we could feel the sting of teargas in our eyes and throats, so we turned back. It took us nearly 90 minutes of trying to circumvent riot police shooting water cannons and dropping tear gas canisters to finally make it back to the hotel. We went to the rooftop lounge to get a cold drink and within just a few minutes were evacuated by staff because teargas being dropped below had wafted up the 7 stories to the rooftop. Our eyes were burning even within the interior hallway of the hotel. Later, we could smell smoke in our room. It turned out that protestors had lit a street fire and were throwing flaming Molotov cocktails at police in the street below the hotel. I booked this hotel several months ago, well before the protests/rioting began. Given the huge size of Santiago, I did not anticipate that the hotel I had booked would end up being located at the epicenter of the ongoing unrest.

We are staying here during some moderate demonstrations, and we are still happy to be staying here. The Luciano K on the outside currently doesn’t look like much, but put that aside and come inside. You will be greeted warmly by staff who are absolutely thrilled that you are staying there. Each and everyone of them want to make sure you are happy, comfortable and safe. Besides the staff, it is the extremely walkable location that makes this boutique hotel a little jewel. You can walk almost anywhere you want to visit from here. We easily meandered over to Plaza de Armes, Carroll Santa Lucia, Lastarria, and several other sights. Fabulous restaurants were a short amble away. The bed and shower were really comfortable, as was the bar and breakfast area on the rooftop terrace. As for the demonstrators, they were out and about. We watched from our window and adjusted our activity accordingly. Just so you know, we are two senior citizens who aren’t particularly brave or stupid. We would happily stay there again. The security at the front door was good, and the staff actually stepped outside to see how things were before we went out at night. There were no issues during the daytime or after 10pm.

Adolfo the wonderful concierge at the hotel arranged transportation from the airport. Our driver dropped us off a few blocks away at a sister hotel as protesters were gathering near the Luciano K. We were told there were no rooms at the sister hotel and then were escorted by a Luciano K employee walking back to the Luciano K hotel with our luggage. Adolfo was very helpful in finding a room for us back at the sister hotel so as we walked back through the growing numbers of protesters. The man at the desk said he DID have a room by the lift or for $40 ,more dollars a night we could have a suite. Hmmmm. We took the room by the lift. I do want to commend Adolfo and the young man that escorted us. They were both very kind and very professional. The Luciano K is a beautiful hotel and we were so very disappointed that we were not able to stay.

Hotel impacted by riots - graffiti on front - broken glass panels on roof - not their fault - but - stayed in at night for conference call - tried to use tv while waiting - remote or tv faulty - tried to dial reception - 900 on paper next to bed - no reply - tried numerous times - tried to order room service - still no reply - walked down to reception while still on call at 8 38 told that reception phone number is 903 not 900 as per room - told restaurant closed so no room service - paper in room says room service till 10 30 - I understand the disruption but not the incompetence and poor service - not up to standard - close down if you don't want to serve guests properly

Unfortunately this hotel is close to the meeting place of the protesters in Chile. The protests are still going on almost every night and they are continuing to damage the area. The police are using water cannons and tear gas on the street where the hotel is and if you go out at night you have to time your return for when the protesters are not there. Luckily they seem to be done early evening. The hotel staff is doing the best they can but unfortunately they cannot change the location of the hotel. The food and alcohol service was limited in the hotel due to the protests. We were not there on the weekend but they say the protests are worse then. The hotel staff is working hard to try and make your stay as pleasant as possible.

We'd booked to stay for three nights in late November and had paid in advance. Less than 24 hours before we were due to arrive the hotel e-mailed us to say that because of the demonstrations they'd had to close to the public. Even though the hotel reopened shortly after, it's taken nearly three months and numerous e-mails from us before they refunded our money. You may wish to think carefully about paying in advance.

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel on Jan 30th - Feb 2nd. Yes the hotel was boarded up but was very easy to find and staff are always there to open the door. Despite the small manifestations, it’s a great location. It is safe and walkable. Honestly it’s one of the best hotels we stayed at, once inside you will love it. Be open minded and you will absolutely love it.

We stayed at the Luciano K for three nights and had a wonderful stay. The staff were all very helpful and nice and spoke English very well, which was very helpful since our Spanish is limited. The location is great for walking to nearby restaurants, bars, and shopping areas. The hotel is as beautiful as the photos.
