The good: The location is perfect, right near the metro with lots of restaurants, bars and mini-marts. It has a kitchen which makes self-catering a breeze. The balcony has table and chairs and a pretty nice view. It was great to grab some empanadas, a salad and a bottle of local wine from the supermarket and enjoy the view. They did service the room which was unexpected. The bad: Check in is strictly after 3pm only. There is no signage on the building to identify it as the Austral Suites (see the ugly below). The room is a bit tired and there's way too much furniture, leaving you no floor space for your suitcases. The bathroom is small with an over the bat shower and a very 'affectionate' shower curtain that clings to you (I hate that). Amenities are basic and paired back to the minimum: only 2 towels in the bathroom, not mat or face washer. There was a 'Head and Shoulders' shampoo sachet supplied but no soap. The ugly: This isn't a hotel (despite being advertised as one on a bookings website). It's actually a residential apartment complex, so there's no one to assist you if you need anything during your stay. Don't bother asking the non-English speaking concierge anything - he got really narky when we tried to ask for help, even with Google Translate. The room was serviced, but they didn't leave any toilet paper. And the shower rose rail actually came off the wall during use. So this room needs some maintenance. Summary: Now I know where this place is I might stay here again as it's such a great location and reasonably priced. Food and Drink Tips: For good food head to Bar Liguria at Av Providenca 1353, Providencia. For local drinks head around the corner to the grungy looking bar on La Concepcion near SAnGuCadoS and ask for Cesar - he's a great guy and speaks good English. Don't forget to try a Chicha and a real Pisco Sour.

We really liked this micro apartment. It was very well laid out. Great big windows to a cute patio. But it could have been cleaner. The dishes were dirty - that were in the cupboard. I ended up washing a lot of them - we had time anyways because we were stuck in our room due to the protests and riots starting up. We were only supplied with one bath towel for 2 of us. No hand towels. No maid service. I had to buy toilet paper- we only had one roll. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. The rooftop pool area was amazing. It was fantastic for watching the sunsets as well. They had tables up there where we could eat outside. It had great wifi. Laundry facilities on the 2nd floor. 1200 pesos per wash and dry. Santa Isabel grocery store is about 600m on Providencia main road.

In every posting of this property, management make it very clear; this is NOT a hotel; there is no front desk. If you don't speak Spanish and arrive unprepared, checking in can be a challenge. We arrived at the location about 10:00 AM after an all night flight from Canada. We were able to leave our luggage in a locked area and went out to explore the neighbourhood. We returned at the strict check in time of 3:00 PM and were met by Dennis and his assistant. They showed us to our unit and explained the TV, WiFi, etc.(not sure if he is able to do this for all guests). We had a superior one bedroom. It was as illustrated and described. WiFi was the best we've ever had travelling, very fast. Daily room cleaning (except Sunday) is provided and is hit and miss. Fresh towels were supposed to be every three days and bed linens every five days; this ended up being a suggestion only. Bed was very comfortable; living room couch has seen better days. Kitchen is not well equipped, should be at least sharp knives. Fitness room and pool are a bonus for this price range. The building has a coin operated laundry which was very nice for a long term stay. Everything you could need is very close.

On a quiet side street in Providencia, the Austral Suites in Concepcion are ideal for exploring Santiago. Everything we needed was in the apartment and whilst quite basic in style, that is reflected in the price we paid. The laundry on the second floor was ideal as we were popping backwards and forwards to Santiago during that time and we never even got to try out the swimming pool. Denis gave fantastic service and sorted out any minor questions/issues straight away. Very good value - couldn't have been better for us.

Dear guest, I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at Austral Suites. I think you spoke with one of our staff and not with me, the general manager. And you are right one of our staff does not speak English. I am very sorry to hear that they didn't fulfill the promises they did over the phone. I am going to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for your review that allow us to improve. Regards, Denis Paccot
