My spouse broke her arm just before we were set to travel. We asked the hotel to allow us to use the deposit for another room at another time. We did not ask for a refund. Not only did they charge us full price, but they charged us triple! It took weeks of action and numerous phone calls to get them to take action. A VERY difficult experience.
The hotel is in an awesome location – it is downtown and within walking distance of most of the sites and the historic area. Within 5 minutes walk of the hotel, there is a grocery store where you can also buy wine, beer and spirits. In the same area, there are many restaurants. As per other reviews, there were riots here just prior to the pandemic in 2020. The properties surrounding the hotel are covered in graffiti but Casa Bueras is clean and graffiti free. We felt safe in the area. When you enter the hotel, there is a small lobby and a beautiful marble stair case in the lobby area. There is a lovely small pool in the back surrounded by tall trees and high walls covered in greenery. There is a terrace leading from the breakfast room to the pool with small tables and other seating areas. This is where we ate breakfast every morning. It is a little oasis in the busy city. We selected a junior suite with the terrace since we wanted to have an outdoor space where we could sit while we quarantined awaiting our COVID tests. Our large terrace had a loveseat, coffee table, planters, and a lounger. I understand that the hotel normally serves a breakfast buffet but everything is now pre-boxed due to COVID. We each had a toasted sandwich. homemade yogurt, fruit medley, granola, a muffin and juice. The front desk staff serve tea or coffee. The service is great and the front desk staff and the manger are very helpful. They were helpful throughout our stay but the best display of exceptional service was the help they gave us when we did not get our COVID test results that we required to return home. The front desk employee used his personal phone to try to help us track down our COVID test (since all the phone messages were in Spanish). When we could not get in touch with anyone, the hotel manager suggested we get retested. The manager walked with us to the testing center which was approximately 15 minutes in each direction so he could translate for us. He explained our problem and they agreed to provide result by 8:00 pm. The manager waited for us to be tested and walked us back to the hotel. Thankfully, we received our test at the airport, just in time for our flight. Had it not been for the help we received from the hotel staff, we would have missed our flight home and we would have been delayed for 2 days. This small hotel is a little gem in a busy city.…
Having read the reviews, most seem to be pre-Covid. Now, the hotel seems to be cutting corners to recoup money. Although some of the staff are friendly, the service is non-existent. One of the staff even admitted he had been complaining to the manager for 2 months about the poor breakfast - boxes of food left in a warm restaurant for hours, before being collected by guests. Not a problem collecting your food to eat in your room, but when Covid/hygiene is the reason given, you expect more than unsealed jars of brown chopped fruit, a slice of chicken in cling film, toast, butter and marmalade in cling film and no cutlery. We even had to share a small bottle of water. No facilities are currently available - outwardly due to Covid - but the pool looked like it could do with a clean, the outdoor terrace was closed, the staff do not wear masks despite residents being required to and our room was very dusty. All in all, a disappointing stay, particularly when other hotels in Santiago are managing to operate safely post-Covid. Also, be careful, as the hotel charge your credit card the day before you check out, without telling you or giving you a bill to check beforehand. Bit of a nuisance as we wanted to pay cash and use up our pesos.…
I’ve stayed at Casa Bueras over the years and keep coming back to this true oasis in downtown Santiago. It’s easy to get work done in a quiet and relaxing setting. Then take a dip in the pool or have drinks on the terrace. Comfortable and affordable luxury.
Reading the reviews and the description of this hotel, I thought it would be a charming boutique. I define boutique as a small hotel with extra charm and excellent service where I feel pampered. This hotel is small in what used to be a charming neighborhood. But on service I have to give it low marks. It's not that the people on the front desk were not eager to please, but they weren't very helpful. I didn't get a restaurant recommendation, they had no local map or ideas about places where I could walk, they were no help in identifying how I could get a COVID test for my return to the US. In fairness, there is usually only one person at the hotel, so they have to man the door, answer the phone, serve coffee in the lounge, deal with check-ins and check-outs, etc. Still, it's not what I would call boutique service. You'll be pretty much on your own. On the positive side, my room had a roof deck which was particularly nice, and it was delightful to sit in the backyard by the pool. This neighborhood has suffered from nearly two years of weekly protests at a nearby square. All of the once graceful old buildings are covered by graffiti and it is not safe to be outside on Friday nights (demonstration night). I went out to eat and ran into a group of about 15 riot police. Not the local color that I wanted.…
Very helpful staff (they made phone calls for me when my luggage hadn’t arrived and got the air-con fixed in our room). Nice room with fridge, TV and terrace. Small swimming pool and garden at the back.
We were looking forward to staying here but could not due to COVID-19 and our flight being cancelled. I called the hotel multiple times to ask for a refund but due to being within their cancellation window they would only provide a one night refund on a two night stay, which they only responded by email through. I think it is ridiculous to take advantage of people during a situation like this. Still have not gotten a call back 10 days later. Don't stay here.
I loved this hotel! When we checked in there was a bit of a mix up with the rooms and the night manager was having a hard time solving it. He was so nice and patient and insisted we just go to dinner, he would sort it all out when we returned and he did! The location is perfect, walking distance to many wonderful restaurants. Yes, there is graffiti covering the hotel but it is covering all of Santiago at the moment and it can't be helped. There were some protests there on our second day but nothing we couldn't easily avoid. The breakfast was good. What I enjoyed most was the historic feel of this hotel - it was beautiful and unique!
We stayed at Casa Bueras on our visit to Santiago. The staff Is Excellent! Very accommodating, friendly and courteous. The hotel is clean and within walking distance to shops, restaurants and transportation. They made us feel safe and comfortable.
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely boutique hotel which is in a very good location near the restaurants and shops of Lasterrria. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
