Casa Kalfu was an excellent location that allowed you to walk 15 minutes to the heart of Puerto Varas. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. There is some hallway noise from other guests but we did not find it that bothersome. Breakfast was basic but plenty to get us started for the day. Our interactions with the staff were all pleasant and accommodating. For the price, it was worth the stay for us but keep in mind that it is not a luxury hotel

Casa Kalfu makes a virtue of rusticity. Located nearly a mile east of Puerto Varas’s downtown, just a block from Lake Llanquihue, its design theme is bare wood. The room disposed of good Wi-Fi, a comfortable bed, an outdoor private garden with two chairs and table (unfortunately unused, as it rained almost continuously the two days I was there). Perhaps I was the first person to wake up in the hotel, because it took a while to get the hot water to run in the bathroom sink each morning. But after the sink got hot water, the shower’s hot water came on instantly.

The staffers at the front desk were personable and welcoming, and the breakfast spread was adequate.

After reading some of the reviews I must admit we were a little apprehensive to stay here. However, we needn’t have been at all.

We stayed for two nights as part of a tour. The hotel is lovely, very unique, warm and welcoming. The staff are very friendly.

The breakfast was excellent and we had no problems with sleep!

Some wrote about spacious rooms with views, not us. We were on the lowest level below the lobby area and can hear everyone walking above us, and in the wooden, squeaky hallway, and noises from the next room. The old wooden floors squeak everywhere. We got a small cramped room with nowhere to put 2 suitcases. There are no other toiletries except soap. The small room gets stuffy. The wifi is nearly nonexistent and you usually have to go to the lobby to hopefully get it to work. The staff not very friendly except 1 young lady who was very helpful when we arrived. This morning breakfast was not set up at 0700. They were still putting out food at 0715 and we needed to start our tour at 0800. We felt rushed. It is a 15 min walk to town, not conveniently located. After touring all day, we didn't feel like hiking into town. Walked to the end of the street to Quintal, has at great view of the mountain. IF you have a severe cat allergy, do not stay here. There is a friendly resident cat that hangs out in the common area. A travel agent made these arrangements. I'm sure I could have done better.

Cross between a hostel and a hotel. The staff were friendly.

Our room was a fair size and the bathroom was also an OK size. The place was very clean. There is no lift so travel light.

Dining area was a bit cramped as there were 16 of us in a cycling group and when others came in for breakfast it was crowded. The staff kept replacing food regularly and none of us went short. Eggs were cooked fresh according to how you preferred them.

There is a lounge area that can be used for meetings. Not sure what other guests thought of us as we took it over for morning and evening briefings. Wifi could be intermittent.

It is a pleasant walk to the centre of the town which has a wide variety of shops and eating places.

I would willingly stay again.

The rooms are very basic. Walls are very thin and noisy. Floors squeak. The breakfast was very basic and the breakfast room wasn’t able to handle the number of people. Staff not very competent.
Good location though for walking into town and close to the waters edge

If you can sleep through dogs barking all night, you might enjoy this boutique hotel. Also be prepared for stairs up to the hotel and then up to your room. It has a nice sitting area and is surrounded by lovely gardens. The walk to the centro is easy and along the coastline.

So I'm sitting in the lobby reading a book (I'm the only one in the lobby) and the front desk clerk come in and turns the TV on instead of manning the front desk. Then he leaves taking the remote with him so I can't turn off the TV. Needless to say I had to leave the lobby if I was to continue reading because of the loud TV with nobody watching and no way to turn it off. I consider this extremely poor customer service.

Just returned from 3 nights pre-booked @Casa Kalfu. Hard to understand the good reviews - this hotel needs a lot of modern updating. We also found it short on amenities (no bar soap, shampoo, bottled water & lacking window coverings on 2 windows and no black out shades on sliding doors). Located in suburban-like neighborhood with barking dogs keeping us awake at night. Compared to other hotels we stayed in while in Chile, this hotel was disappointing.
