We only were able to book one night, but well worth it. I originally booked a room in Puerto Varas, but glad we decided to change. Puerto Varas was very crowded. Awa is located just down the road and very private. The views from the hotel room are really stunning, even from the shower. The rooms are very spacious. There is kayaking on premise and some very nice bikes for guests to use. The staff is really amazing. The manager created us upon arrival and departure. Really a nice touch. We had 3 meals. The dinner was one of our favorites of a 3 week trip. We also took advantage of the sea kayak excursion, which we would highly recommend. Again the service was top notch.
A bit away from the city of Puerto Varas one finds an amazing boutique hotel with stunning views, superb service and food. All rooms have an amazing view of the lake. It is located a bit closer to the great hiking trails of the region than the city hotels. We also enjoyed their spa facilities.
I can understand why some rate it "Average" and some rate it "Excellent". With this quandary I have gone for the middle as the views, interesting design and food make it better than "Average" despite some shortcomings. The bedrooms have stunning views of Lake Llanquihue and Orsono Volcano. They are well laid out and make the best use of the space. The wardrobe space is limited but I imagine most guests will live out of a suitcase for a few nights. The hotel design is interesting with a lot of features. The use of concrete and glass makes for an unexpected combination in this very traditional picturesque spot in Chile. When we were there, other than the first day, it was a bit wet and cold and the use of hard and dull surfaces made it feel a little unwelcoming until the fires were lit. The lounge and bar are an extension of reception which meant it didn't really feel like a place to linger unless you had a seat in front of the fire. The level of service is a bit haphazard but it is delivered in a friendly and helpful manner. The bar isn't manned and you have to ask at reception if you want a drink. We thought the food was good and with a decent choice. When we stayed there was no one obvious in charge and it showed a little with the service. Also with all the glass it is a bit disappointing that the windows are not the cleanest with more than a few cobwebs. The glass roof for the pool could do with a good clean as it was getting a bit green. Not what you expect for this class of hotel and price. One morning our room safe decided not to work and as the manager had the skeleton key at home we had to borrow money from reception and repay them later. Good job we weren't checking out that morning to go to the airport! The beach area is made up of pebbles and you can swim from the jetty, albeit it will be a tad bracing! They had staff available there and they were attentive in bringing drinks. Towards dusk they light fire pits to enable you to enjoy the views a little longer as the sun goes down. The hotel is a little bit out on its own and is around 15km from Puerto Varas, so hiring car is helpful for venturing out.…
We were in Puerto Vara for 3 nights and unfortunately the weather wasn't very nice. However, we still loved our time due to our fantastic stay at Hotel Awa. First the staff -- they were fantastic. My husband asked if they had a place to watch a football match .... about 5 minutes after his request we got a knock at our door. They brought up a massive TV screen for us to watch in the room. That is service. Also the staff in the restaurant was great -- remembered our names, our preferences, etc. Lastly the room was beautiful. Very modern and if the weather was nice would have an amazing view. It is a drive out of town, but so worth it!
Wow, this is one of the most wonderful hotels we have stayed in and we have travelled extensively. Right from the initial welcome by David at reception, to the amazing suite, spa, bar, restaurant, turndown service - it has everything you need and more. All with a very boutique and personal feel. You will not regret booking here, it was one of the true highlights of our honeymoon in Chile. Close to lots of amazing walks, hikes, boat trips, etc and less than an hour from Puerto Montt airport.
