Rates from USD 775 per person per night. Located in the picturesque Araucania region of Chile’s Lake District, homeland of the courageous Mapuche people, is a spectacular 22-hectare (34-acre) estate: Vira Vira. Dramatic landscapes of breathtaking glacial lakes mirror the snowy tips of nearby volcanoes, while within the rainforests gracing the surrounding national parks, evergreen Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle) trees, some over 1 000 years old, stand tall. This region is both the gateway to Patagonia, and a thrilling adventure haven. Immersed on an expansive, forested estate with 822 m (2,696 ft) of river frontage and breathtaking views of the snow-capped Villarica Volcano, this magnificent wooden lodge is themed in beauty. Enormous windows frame exquisite outlooks, while vibrant wall tapestries, hand-woven textiles and other traditional artefacts colour the interior decor. Signature features include a modern working farm, organic farm-to-table vegetable garden, on-site boutique cheese factory and two outdoor hot tubs. Ideally appointed accommodation, overlooking either the estate surrounds or the Liucura River, includes six cosy suites, 12 split-level villas with a separate living room, and a five-bedroom, sole-use Hacienda for up to 10 guests. Ensuite bathrooms include a separate bath and walk-in shower. Floor to ceiling windows fills the spacious wooden interiors with natural light. Each guest unit is individually decorated with a selection of curated objects and richly-textured rugs, wall hangings and fabric.

Kudos to the Vira Vira team for our very private stay in late August. We visited during a quiet time at the lodge and enjoyed a very personal and intimate experience. The food is a highlight — Chef Damian is a maestro, preparing delicious, beautifully presented dishes - lots of freshly caught seafood, local vegetables, and cheeses from their local farm. Juan provided engaging table service, and we looked forward to every meal overlooking the scenic lagoon, forest and mountain landscape. We were lucky to have Antonio as a private guide, as we were the only guests on excursions during our visit. It was a worthwhile trek to see the mountain lakes and waterfalls. We booked a lovely suite overlooking the lagoon, located in the main building where dining and excursions depart. But, we stayed in a villa and appreciated the larger seating area when we stayed in due to rain. Villas require an outdoor walk to the dining room and overlook the river. The grounds are bucolic with grazing sheep and cows. There’s a small gym and two hot tubs - and we enjoyed the bath salts in our large in-villa tub. Villas also have a spacious outdoor tub, not usable during the winter months. This was our first visit to Chile and third stay with andBeyond, and we will continue to stay with andBeyond around the world. The level of hospitality, quality of lodging and amenities, and excellence of meals are outstanding and well worth it.

Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I stayed in Vira Vira for 3 nights during our 3 week honeymoon in Chile. Staying in Vira Vira was exceptional from start to finish! In short - It was the highlight of our trip to Chile! Everything was beyond expectation - the food, the welcome & service we received, & the accommodation (villa room). Longer version- From the minute I contacted Vira Vira the service was exceptional, Fernanda in reservations was very helpful and quick to respond to my emails. On arrival to Temuco airport we were picked up by the hotel and the driver had some snacks and water for us. We stayed in the Villa room, which was out of this world - spacious with tasteful yet simple interior, immaculately clean, the bathroom was spacious with a separate shower room, toilet and there was a lovely big bath tub. Finally, there was a fireplace in the room and a lovely lounge area!! The food - top notch! The food was of the highest standard and was an experience in itself! The presentation alone was a treat. The set menu every day had just a few choices, usually fish or meat for main course, however I am sure there were vegetarian options on request. I had fish every day as I don't eat meat and I loved all the different options. Breakfast was unreal!! The service - 100% ! The team were very relaxed yet perfectly attentive. Simone served us dinner each night and she was just excellent! The bar team made us the most gorgeous gin & tonics each night which we were able enjoy in the villa on front of the fire. The team seemed to get on very well together, so there was a lovely atmosphere amongst them. Greg the manager was very welcoming and kind and did everything to make our honeymoon stay extra special. The excursions - We enjoyed a trek each day with , he was lovely company and also so knowledgeable and passionate about nature and the beautiful surroundings. He also arranged for us to go horse riding and kayaking. All of the excursions were so enjoyable and not overly taxing! We would have stayed a 4th night if we knew how much we were going to love it, however 3 nights was nearly perfect too. The standard was 5 star throughout our stay. The atmosphere was professional, but so friendly and relaxed at the same time.

We have used andBeyond's services quite a bit to visit various destinations such as Tanzania, India &Peru. Everything has always been great with andBeyond, except for our last trip - the one to Chile and Argentina, thanks to the unprofessional attitude of the two company employees in Argentina. These are Catalina and Nicolás. They have been rude and uncooperative in searching of our personal belongings and luggage which they lost by their fault. They tried charging us ridiculous amounts of money for sending us our packages. We were surprised that it was even possible for professionals in the field to behave so badly and consistently, but alas, despite our urgings to behave more professionally and politely, things got even worse. We went on this adventure with the mindset of something great, but received a very disappointing service, which leaves a bad taste on our overall experience.

Kind of falling apart, weeds, buildings need minor but consistent maintenence in and out. Peeling paint. Roofing shingles/ trash within view in many places. Tile falling off.. Dead flowers in plnaters. No attention to detail in maintenance. No pool (crazy!). Food was good. Things stored here and there (covered in dust and leaves) in public places (next to the hot tub). Service is friendly but consistent mistakes and poor follow through in restaurant (with exceptions. Constanza was great!). Hotel staff better than restaurant. **Very** expensive for a sub par experience. Not polished AT ALL. Much nicer hotels in Lake region like: Hotel AWA and Futangue. (1/3 and 1/4 the cost!) VV feels like a slowly dying property being milked for all they can get, from a better past, before a demise. Neglected. Vibe is stuffy, and quiet in a sad way. The neighborhood that you enter and exit through is full of dilapidated homes and a motorcycle campground. If the area is so bad/ shabby/ dilapidated, why do people pay so much to stay there?! We talked to some neighbors and they said that they can't comprehend why the visitors pay so much to stay in their area which is the same as VV, but *very* low cost. I agreed that I DO NOT understand the cost. Zero magic. Nothing special (in comparison to competitiors). No great vibes. I feel cheated.

Response from Gregory Franc, Director General at andBeyond Vira Vira
Responded Apr 5, 2023
Dear Bryan, Thank you for your comments and feedback regarding your stay at our lodge. I am saddened to read that your experience didn't reach your expectations and was indeed very disappointing, knowing that our entire team is usually very dedicated to creating the most unique and unforgettable memories for all our guests. As I recall, you were booked on a half board package, which unfortunately does not include any of our activities which we would have loved to share with you for a complete experience. We have been evaluating the elimination of the half board program since it does not allow us to show all the activities, expertise of our guides and equipment, as well as support to the communities which our entire team is dedicated to. Guests who only pass, sleep and dine see a small part of what we do, but we opened this opportunity as a way to introduce part of who we are, and we regret that we did not achieve that during your visit. We would have very much appreciated to be informed of your disagreement during your stay, as I am sure that every effort would have been made to change that perception. I will also take the time to review with the Maintenance team all the specific details mentionned in your feedback, since after the pandemic great emphasis has been placed on having the property in the best possible conditions. I would also like to specify that, as you said, our lodge does not have a pool, and this is not promoted on any booking platforms, neither on your booking confirmation which was sent to you prior to your arrival. Reading as well the comments shared to you by some of our neighbours, it seems somehow awkward to me and needs to be taken very carefully as none have stayed with us to fully experience our lodge, its gastronomy and the activities that we offer. I sincerely regret that we weren't able to meet and even exceed your expectations, and I will carefully review your comments and suggestions to ensure that our future guests will experience a perfect stay. We have received many great reviews from guests staying with us at the same time as you and throughout the season, although on a Full Experience package, and should have I been informed at the time, I would have loved to talk to you in person and take the time to listen to your suggestions while you were at the lodge to revert your negative experience. Best Regards, Gregory Franc General Manager

This is an incredible hotel, in an amazing location with fantastic staff. They have an organic garden and cheese making facility on site. The food is truly world class and very fresh. Our guide was a more than 20 resident of the area and a professional photographer who enabled a world class experience.

We were planning trip to Chile with Abercrombie & Kent mainly to visit Easter Island and they recommended andBeyond Vira Vira as a way to experience an outstanding property in another part of the country. We were familiar with the andBeyond brand from their properties in Africa but never stayed at one of their lodges. We saw this property had outstanding reviews and they clearly lived up to them. The lodge is on an exquisite property and designed to fit in the environment. It has outstanding design and is well maintained. We had an all-inclusive package that included all your food and drinks and a wide range of activities with excellent guides. We stayed in a villa which is separate from the main building which is and large and very nicely furnished and equipped. Our room was set by a small river and we enjoyed the sounds of flowing water and birds when we left the door open. It would get cool at night, and we had a nice fireplace in the villa and they would come in and set up a fire while we were at dinner. The food and drinks were outstanding. Each meal had new choices and the quality and quantity of the food were exceptional. I am not sure how they got their provisions in this remote location, but the meat and fish were wonderful, and the vegetables locally grown. The food was prepared and plated to the highest standards. There was also a nice selection of excellent Chilian wines on the included wine list and they were glad to give you bottles to take back you your room. The bartenders were craftspeople had interesting different specialty drinks. The people were delightful, and the staff made you feel welcomed and well cared for from reception to wait staff and housekeeping. Best of all were the guides and the included activities. We stayed for three nights and got to experience a raft float down the river by the hotel, two hikes in the local national parks, kayaking in a lake in another park and a village tour. andBeyond Vira Vira is truly an outstanding resort and wonderful experience.

We were so very pleased to find andBeyond in South America and that Vira Vira lives up to the brand. It is a beautiful property along the river with incredibly attentive service, abundant activities, and some of the best food and beverages of any luxury lodge in the world. We thoroughly enjoyed the fly fishing, visit with the Mapuche, hiking, kayaking, and touring the cheese factory. Special thanks to Nicholas, Juan Pablo, Simon, Philipe, and Jorge for their guiding, and to Greg, Sofia, Jessica, Juan, John, Ricardo, Bastian, Nelson, and the entire team there. Highly recommend for any visit to Pucón.

Our stay at the Vira Vira was superb. The staff are exceptional and catered for our every need. The food is a culinary delight and our luxurious suite came with outstanding views. The excursions were real adventures hiking to volcanoes, white water rafting, horse back riding in the mountains with Rodolpho to more sedate drifting down scenic rivers spotting king fishers and woodpeckers. All in all we were made to feel special and privileged to find such a wonderful place to stay.

We have stayed at several &Beyond properties in Africa. We chose to come to Chile because of &Beyond Vira Vira. We were not disappointed. Once again, &Beyond exceeds our expectations. We stayed in Villa #12. It was beautiful. We had a sitting area to enjoy the view. The bathroom was large with a tub and beautiful shower. Everything was situated so that you can appreciate the view, even the desk. There was plenty of space for our luggage, clothing and hiking equipment. We brought our own sticks even though they were provided. There is a nespresso machine as well as a tea kettle in the room. Housekeeping secretly comes in 2-3 times a day to stock the bar and tidy up. The restaurant was exceptional. Presentations are beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Food - excellent. Special shout out to Ricardo, our mixologist, while we were there. Makes the best drinks ever. Our guide was Nicolas and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was always prepared with our activity as well as being able to answer all questions from politics to nature. We did the following: kayaking, 1/2 day hike, full day hike, 1/2 mountain biking, white water rafting, cheese tour, and for an additional charge - helicopter tour of the volcano. Because the lodge was not at capacity, we had Nicolas as our personal guide the entire time we were there (4 nights). Front desk staff was pleasant and always ready to help. We cannot recommend Vira Vira enough.
