#2 of 33 hotels in Pucon
Rates from USD 775 per person per night. Located in the picturesque Araucania region of Chile’s Lake District, homeland of the courageous Mapuche people, is a spectacular 22-hectare (34-acre) estate: Vira Vira. Dramatic landscapes of breathtaking glacial lakes mirror the snowy tips of nearby volcanoes, while within the rainforests gracing the surrounding national parks, evergreen Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle) trees, some over 1 000 years old, stand tall. This region is both the gateway to Patagonia, and a thrilling adventure haven. Immersed on an expansive, forested estate with 822 m (2,696 ft) of river frontage and breathtaking views of the snow-capped Villarica Volcano, this magnificent wooden lodge is themed in beauty. Enormous windows frame exquisite outlooks, while vibrant wall tapestries, hand-woven textiles and other traditional artefacts colour the interior decor. Signature features include a modern working farm, organic farm-to-table vegetable garden, on-site boutique cheese factory and two outdoor hot tubs. Ideally appointed accommodation, overlooking either the estate surrounds or the Liucura River, includes six cosy suites, 12 split-level villas with a separate living room, and a five-bedroom, sole-use Hacienda for up to 10 guests. Ensuite bathrooms include a separate bath and walk-in shower. Floor to ceiling windows fills the spacious wooden interiors with natural light. Each guest unit is individually decorated with a selection of curated objects and richly-textured rugs, wall hangings and fabric.

We stayed at Vira Vira during the December 2020 solar eclipse and were impressed beyond belief. The rooms are exceptional with the comfort and luxury of an elite resort, but the food will forever shine as the highlight. The chef creates a farm to table menu that satisfied all, even the vegetarian in the family. The cheese board was a must at every meal and the on-site cheese factory tour will leave you appreciating every bite which reflects the art of the master cheese maker. One cannot say enough about the staff who accommodated every request, even arranging a private nurse to come to the hotel to administer a PCR test for the family on a Sunday, which was a requirement to board another flight and continue our travels on to Patagonia. We loved our tour guide, Angie who felt like part of the family after 3 days of excursions together. The white water rafting was so much fun and will be a favorite family memory for years to come! Oh, and the eclipse, it somehow perfectly appeared between the rain and the clouds to be a spiritually moving experience, as if Vira Vira arranged the miracle as a special reward for only their guests!

&Beyond Vira Vira is the kind of place you remember long after leaving the Lakes District. It’s a gorgeous setting for exploring the many national parks in the area, but coming back to your exquisite Villa (and don’t hesitate to book a Villa here - it’s well worth it!) after a day of adventuring is the ultimate reward (private Jacuzzi to soak those sore muscles followed by a glass of wine by the fireplace, anyone?). Pucon itself can get quite busy in the summertime with lots of Chileans vacationing there — the town of 20,000 people swells to upwards of 100,000 during the summer months — but at Vira Vira you don’t really feel it because you’re removed from town and it's possible to visit more remote areas. What I love about Vira Vira is that it’s undeniably Chilean — if the volcanoes, rivers & forests outside your window don’t convince you, you’ll be reminded by the beautiful textiles & artwork throughout the property, the real huaso (Chilean cowboy) who will take you horseback riding, and the first-rate hospitality. The staff is wonderful and attentive, and anticipates your every need before even you yourself knows what that may be. Greg & Paula make you feel like family! And the dining experience is truly exceptional too. My meals at Vira Vira were the best on my several week adventure through Chile. The lodge makes its own high-quality cheeses & breads and majority of the ingredients are sourced from its own organic garden - farm to table at its finest!

Ok so once we had seen the BBC programme 'Behind the lobby' my wife wanted us to stay here. She consequently built an 18 night holiday in Chile all around staying at this fabulous resort for 4 nights. Yes its expensive but when you actually breakdown what you get for your money it actually makes a load of sense. From arriving at the local airport and meeting your driver who has a couple of lunch bags for you to eat on the 2.5Hr journey to the actual arrival itself with staff waiting with cold towels and friendly smiles, the whole experience is delightful! The room we had was smart and spacious with your own balcony overlooking the small lake in which ducks and a lonley swan glide around in. Downstairs is the dining area and bar and you can get a coffee or something stronger pretty much when you want. The meals throughout the day are exceptional and they will always do something to your own taste if you want. Everything is true to the local Mapuche culture with plenty of local products around the resort. When you arrive you sit down with your dedicated private guide to discuss what activities you would like to do during your stay (all included in the cost) We got really lucky as our guide was a delightful fella called Felipe who we took to straight away. For the next 4 doors Felipe treated us to some experiences that overwhelmed our senses. But without doubt if you do go pls request Felipe as your guide as he will make your stay and absolute joy!

Having stayed at an &Beyond previously, Vira Vira took our expectations with the brand to another level. This is an outstanding property with all staff committed to making sure guests receive the best experience possible. Surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens and fronted by a small lake, fringed by a well maintained rural environment, beside a pristine river, this location is peaceful and relaxing the moment you arrive. From the warm welcome through to departure, every aspect of the stay exceeded expectations. Common areas are spacious for relaxation, the location of tables for meals well planned, overall guest amenities excellent. We stayed in a suite in the main building, it had loads of space and had a superbly large and well designed ensuite. Light and airy, with outdoor balcony seating overlooking the property, the room had positive kharma! Of the numerous properties we stayed over 4 weeks in Chile, the chef and the kitchen at Vira Vira was one at the top of the scale. A wonderful menu selection of superbly presented and tasty food. With a terrific range and array of activities on offer, with your personal guide, in an area that offers adventure, leisure, culture and wellness opportunities, no day here is boring - there is something for any interest. The personal touches and 'surprises' just went that level above the norm. If wanting for a top of the range stay, we strongly recommend &Beyond Vira Vira.

We stayed here for two nights with a group tour, and absolutely fell in love with our room. The sunken living room, the ample closet space, the well-appointed bathroom, and of course the outdoor hot tub. What a treat! The food and drinks at the restaurant were creative and quite good. Service was fine. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a quiet, elegant retreat.
