We stayed here for three nights from 14th-17th March, but wish we had stayed longer. There is no point describing the history of the hotel, suffice to say that it is an Icon in Pucon, with a great back story. We arrived here to a really warm welcome from the duty Manager Beatrix and felt instantly at home. Another lady was arranging flowers in the reception (who I believe to be the owner) chatted casually to my Wife adding to the already positive feeling. Physically the Hotel is perched on possibly the best site in Pucon overlooking the lake in attractive and not "over" manicured gardens. Dating from the 1940's with it's signature Bauhaus design references, it does show some signs of age. However it is a time capsule and one that is lovingly maintained, giving one the flavour of its colourful history and striking architectural design. The bedrooms are more than comfortable and the dining area terrace and lounge areas perfectly in character, with what I believe to be most of the original furniture. The atmosphere is very relaxed, but professional. Use of all the facilities (pool, jacuzzi, sauna and beaches) is encouraged. The restaurant is open in the evenings with last orders at 8pm and breakfasts start at a leisurely 9am. Nonetheless, if you need breakfast early or dinner a little later, then nothing appears to be too much trouble. In fact, we had two early starts and one late return and they were more than happy to accommodate us. The menu is fairly limited, but very well crafted and presented along with a appropriate wines. If fact there were some absolutely delicious courses, well cooked and served by professional staff. Overall the Hotel Antumalal welcomes you as if you are a friend to their home and exudes a warmth and charm rarely found these days. Beatrix and her colleague (who's name I did not get) could not have been more helpful, kinder or more welcoming. They certainly went the extra mile to make us feel completely at home. And not forgetting Camilla, who works the restaurant floor as if it is her own, but with great enthusiasm, humour and charm. If you are wanting a corporate style, anonymous hotel, then is is probably not for you. If you want somewhere you can just truly relax and forget about the world outside and be truly spoilt, I can recommend this place. I would like to thank Beatrix and her colleagues for making our stay better than we could ever have expected. This is a real gem. Wish we had stayed longer!…
Great location but that’s all. Small dusty and old room, so small we couldn’t even open our luggage. The restaurant has a nice terrace but old furniture, food nothing special, slow service. Breakfast only starts at 9, very poor choice. Definitely not a place I would recommend
The Hotel Antumalal has something that you can never take away: a stunningly beautiful view and peaceful grounds to match. Walking into the hotel lobby is breathtaking, with crystal clear views of Lago Villarica and the surrounding mountains. The rooms have a cabin-y feel, even down to the smell, which matches the forest surroundings. The bed was really comfortable, and opening the windows wide open to hear the birds and feel the breeze is magical. The scenery was so stunning that I have to give the Antumalal 5 stars. However.... the hotel could use a small, aesthetic renovation. The bathroom is not 5 star hotel quality and some small details weren't spotlessly clean like price would demand. I also thought the breakfast was a bit underwhelming. It was just fine. Overall, the idyllic setting and views make it all worth it. We did not want to leave. The Lakes region of Chile is marvelous, and this is an excellent place to stay if you can get in at the right price.…
Arriving at this hotel makes you gasp - the aspect, the architecture, the plants, the spa area. We felt totally spoiled during our two-night stay and spent new year's here. Most importantly, nothing has been mucked about with architecturally, the original concept is still totally respected, so you do not feel like you are in a hotel, rather a friend's exclusive home
This was a lovely retreat with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. They were very accommodating about our early breakfasts (early tour and departure day). We had dinner here twice - lots of good choices in a lovely setting. They say it is 2K from town, and maybe so but we only walked it once. Into town is downhill, but we got an Uber back! Very nice pool area - and good internet!
What a place 2km outside Pucón - walking distance or £2 taxi ride- this hotel is right on the lake shore with grounds to the beach ( where there is a hidden gem of a room) West facing gives fabulous sunset views from the restaurant which I have reviewed separately and is excellent in its own right for residents or non residents. Fresh produce from the hotel garden resulted in really excellent salads. Really enjoyed the open fire in the lounge conducive to talking to other guests if so wish. Bar had excellent wine list and also supported an open fire. Each room has its own fire but fortunately ( or unfortunately!) the weather was too hot to use. Staff speak perfect English and are genuinely helpful and friendly. I needed to do some work one morning before breakfast and sat by the fire in the lounge laptop on knee only to be brought some coffee by a staff member without even asking for it. That’s the sort of family run not Corporate place this is -and long may it continue. Really enjoyed the sauna in the SPA although the pool temperature was “ bracing “ and the changing facilities lacking with only one shared shower. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip stayed here in 1968 as have many other dignatories on the wall of fame. So what needs to improve ? Some very minor maintenance niggles for hotel info only really - So basics like weeding the patio steps outside the lounge - odd because the grounds are really well kept. The hot tub was in permanent rest mode in the SPA The toilet constantly flowed wasting water and wasnt fixed when asked But perhaps the bigger jobs also need considering. The internet speed was low but i managed but could be improved The main issue for us is we really don’t like a shower over a bath and shower curtain. Think that’s too much of a bygone time and a programme to upgrade en-suite would be sensible although costly. Don’t be put off by this point- still a fabulous hotel it was a privilege to stay in as it feels like someone’s home but don’t expect a luxury bathroom. Clean and functional but if you know what to expect then can’t be disappointed. …
Set in a beautiful location with extensive gardens and own private beach (albeit of lava shingle) We stayed here for two nights. The room was a good size with a very large bed and log fire if required. The restaurant and bar have fantastic views overlooking the lake whilst sipping that pre dinner drink. The restaurant food was of a high quality and would I highly recommend the hake dish. All portions are large, so choose wisely. All the staff without exception were attentive and helpful and would even refill our water bottles upon request. I’d highly recommend staying here.
1. The other reviews are correct 2. Very responsive service 3. Hotel is uniquely designed 4. Historic place with amazing guests 5. Restaurant with nice view of lake 6. Good menu choices 7. Grounds like a park 8. Unique spa 9. 1k from town 10. All rooms with views over gardens to lake
The views from here are stunning directly over the lake and the snow capped Andes behind ,with a sunset to die for. Certainly our room and I think all rooms have a lake view. There is also a lovely spa and the staff are great. Breakfast was lovely and we ate in restaurant both evenings and food was very good. It was interesting to see that the Queen and Prince Philip had stayed here on a state visit in 1968 and the Queen’s thank you letter ( available on line) was interesting and they had obviously enjoyed their stay. The things that let the hotel down and made me give it a 4 star rather than 5 star were no bedroom mini bar or tea / coffee making facilities or easy availability and, I didn’t realise there was a bar behind reception , and bathroom toiletries also appeared meagre. In the spa there was quite a lot of maintenance needed ( broken window and gaps in walls between changing rooms etc ) but we really enjoyed our stay .…
We live in a place very similar to Pucon in Lake Tahoe, California and we have several of these old dames like Antumalal which were built during the 40’s and 50’s. Usually these hotels will go two direction, the old structures will fall into disrepair and eventually close or, as is the case of Antumalal, they become a classic and will transcend time. My family, consisting of our 7 and 3-year-old, my wife and I recently stayed at the two-bedroom cottage for four nights. What a cool place, it exudes character. We arrived after midnight and the night watchman was more than happy to show us to the cottage and help with our bags. I have been to Pucon several time and felt very lucky that we had great sunny weather during the winter. You open up the windows to a beautiful view of the lake. At night we slept with the calming sound of the lake water a few meters below the cottage. We were there during low season (August) so there was hardly anyone else at the hotel. Be forewarned the 2- and the newer 3-bedroom cottages are a fair walk down beautiful stone steps which I can see being slippery during rain. Our kids loved the cottage, with a small kitchen, living room & no neighbors. The property is gorgeous, full of lush greenery & foliage. The pool is amazing now, I can’t imagine what it looks like during the summer. I hope with all the new construction going on around Pucon, Antumalal continues to thrive. We thought the price we paid was a great value for our family. …
