David Hughes and his staff at Pucon Kayak Retreat put together a fantastic trip for our college program Rivers of Life through Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs. Our needs were vast and required a high level of logistics with guest speakers, river shuttles, food shops, and more. David's staff offered great one-on-one instruction and conversation with our students and helped create a trip of a life time for us! The accommodations at the retreat were first class and the food was above and beyond. We look forward to bringing our next group back!!

We had a group of 5 for a Class III+/IV+ kayaking adventure. We were able to get on some of the most beautiful whitewater in the world: Upper and Lower Trancura, Upper and Lower Palguín, Rio Maichín, Upper and Lower Middle/Lower Fuy. The kayaking instructors/guides were certainly some of the best there are! Eli, Curtis, Boyd and Casey were professional yet very relatable, and provided everything from basic drills/warm ups to on-the-fly coaching. Reviewing the films of our lines on the waterfalls of the Upper Palguin was extremely helpful. The retreat is on a beautiful piece of property right alongside the Rio Trancura. My son and I stayed in the no-frills shared dorm, and it was fine. Some beds were empty so we doubled up mattresses which made the bed pretty comfortable. The outdoor “treehouse” shower is fantastic! Air conditioning would be a good addition if upgrades are made to the retreat. We spent several evenings playing “extreme bacce” and other games. So much fun to connect with the staff and other guests. Breakfasts and dinners at the retreat were fantastic! Jessie is an excellent chef. I especially liked the build-your-own pizza night and BBQ ribs night. Lunches generally consisted of lunch meat sandwiches or wraps. Some variety would be nice! I would absolutely recommend staying here if you are interested in a world-class kayaking adventure!

Pucon Kayak Retreat has the best staff and the River Suite accommodations are excellent. If you are looking for a true whitewater kayaking experience go with this team. They have knowledgeable guides and the instructors are some of the best kayak athletes. The resident chef cooks a terrific chicken Alfredo.

This place is awesome. Stay at one of the luxury tents if you want more privacy. David and his crew are perfect hosts, and you will be among some of the top kayak instructors in the world. Peaceful, friendly, EPIC - and right on the Trancura River. 10 minutes from town.
