I have spend 4nights at Hotel Telegraph, and we have stayed in quite a few hotels in Singapore and this boutique hotel made me and my wife feel so special and feel like home. Ambiance up at the Rooftop Bar is amazing, room is gorgeous, and the staff is the key to impress a guest. Housekeeping, Reception and Concierge staff are caring and attentive. Restaurant staff are professional and passionate, especially made me feel so welcome each time we dine at The Dining Room. Will definitely recommend to all our friends. Alex & Fiona

We stayed here recently on a long Singapore layover. We had a few issues but wanted to layout the good, the bad and the worst. The Good: Location is superb. Right across the street from Lau Pa Sat Market and 15 minute walk to Chinatown and harbor viewpoint overlooking Marina Bay Sands Gentleman at check in, bell hop attendant and maintenance man were all courteous and great. Rooftop pool looks amazing at night The Bad: The room styling and decor is rather garish and out there. Very bold and off-putting. However this styling is personal taste and did not affect my rating. The Worst: Our room reeked of mildew and "wet". It seemed like the whole room was soaked in water in the past and never fully dried out, hence the odor. It was very strong and nauseating. The toilet also had a strong urine smell from the marble flooring. Absolutely unacceptable for a hotel of this price point. We raised our concerns with the night front desk attendant when we returned to the hotel from dinner and requested a new room due to the odors. She informed us that the hotel was fully booked. I asked if there was another partner hotel they could transfer us to, but alas they didn't have one. We did ask for 1 deionizer to have on in the room to deal with the odors. When the odor persisted, I asked and received a 2nd additional deionizer to have on to alleviate the odors (see photos). They alleviated the smells a little bit, only to add their own chemical odors from the machines running. We went to sleep that night uncomfortable and worried what we might be breathing in. I raised these unpleasant issues with the gentleman at checkout, and while he told me management would hear of my concerns, it has now been 7 days and I have not yet heard back from the Hotel Telegraph.

Dear Andy C, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor and for choosing to stay with us at Hotel Telegraph. Unfortunately, we were unable to contact you as we couldn't find your contact email with us when you register your name at the reception, for this we truly apologise. We are grateful that you have brought to our attention the incident you had in your room and during your stay and due to inclement weather, the humidity fluctuates rapidly and that had affected your room, however we will have to take appropriate measures by using the ioniser or adjust the temperature to a different level to counter the high humidity condition. We humbly apologise for the inconvenience that it has caused. We are also looking into the A/C thermostat and actuator as this is something that we will replace if found not working correctly. We have taken your constructive feedback positively and we have reviewed it with our relevant technical team and our key members to ensure that the necessary corrective measures are in placed to prevent similar incident from reoccurring. We do, however, would like to have another opportunity to provide you with experience that you truly deserve on your future visits to Hotel Telegraph, please do contact me directly whenever you're ready to make your next booking with us. Kind regards, Garry Chan

Small luxury hotel in busy Singapore. Wonderful staff, superb food, vibrant Singapore on your doorstep. Walk to Gardens by the Bay, train station, marina , iron market and a huge selection of cafe/restaurants/wine bars in the old part of town. The hotel had a real welcoming feel to it. Will definitely return

We bought a 3 nights package through Luxury Escapes and enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel. We selected the Cosy room and it is cosy and a bit on the compact side. The staff were friendly and helpful but we were impressed by the fact that on two occasions, Garry Chan, the GM of this boutique hotel went out of his way to greet guests to wish them a pleasant stay. The pool is lovely place to swim and relaxed in, in Singapore’s warm and muggy climate. The breakfast offered a mixture of European, Asian and English style breakfast. Although, the choice of dishes were limited but the food presented were high in quality and fresh. We would definitely return again and would love to stay in the Heritage wing. Love the central location of this hotel and the sheer fact that it is neighbour to the hawker’s Center was welcoming as we loved Singapore’s street food scene.

We have usually stayed in the Scotts/Orchard area for shopping and restaurant convenience, but we had a terrible experience at Royal Plaza - where we will never ever stay again (see separate review) - and The Grand Hyatt on Scotts is closed for renovations. So due to Hyatt's new affiliation with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, we came across the Telegraph Hotel, which was new to us. It's a smallish 5-Star luxury bouique hotel previously a Sofitel, close to the CBD but in SIngapore, with the MRT, as long as there is a station close by (there is!) the location really doesn't matter too much. We now travel just for leisure so don't really need large business hotels and prefer smaller more intimate boutique properties and this one we found delightful. It's very comfortable with well-appointed rooms and being a smaller boutique property, is friendly and cozy. After a few days there, it felt like home. As an added bonus, the building itself is a protected architectural heritage site, the location of the original telegraph office of singapore, hence the name. It's a very beautiful old building now surrounded by the high-rise buildings of the CBD. We closed the level-5 rooftop bar (and adjacent roof top pool) all alone on a Saturday night after a late dinner and the experience of lying by the pool enjoying a nightcap in such a historic building while surrounded by the City lights and highrises was, in itself, quite a unique expereince. We would highly recommend this property and will definitely be back again ourselves.

We had originally booked this hotel while it was part of the Accor group, but decided to retain the booking because of the great location, despite no longer being entitled to relevant status benefits. Aside from the location and breakfast buffet, there was little else to recommend this hotel. Our main issues were due to confusion around a late check-out, and the rate we had booked. Late check-out; When the hotel left the Accor group, I emailed to request a late check-out (an additional half-day) as this would no longer be available as an Accor benefit. I received an email, confirming the late check-out was available, had been booked and the price. On arrival at the hotel however, we were advised that there was no late check-out confirmed on our booking, and as the hotel was booked out it was only possible to extend the check-out time by one hour (to 12pm, which incidentally - in my experience - is the usual check-out time in a 5* hotel). When we supplied staff with a copy of the late check-out confirmation, the story changed - suddenly late check-out was available, and could be confirmed after all. Rate; We had an email confirming the rate for our stay, and had received confirmation from Accor that the rate booked would be honored despite the hotel leaving the Accor group. When we arrived, and had resolved the late check-out issue, the staff advised us of the rate for our stay, which was approximately SGD300 more than was quoted at booking. We tried to query the rate, but this was unresolved, and given it was late (and we were tired), we decided to leave it, and follow up the next morning. After checking-in, I had look on the hotel's website, to see the rate current rate - disappointingly, I could see that the room type we had booked was still available for our entire stay (including late check-out), and was ~SGD200 less than the rate we had booked through Accor (~SGD500 less, if you include the erroneous rate quoted at check-in). When we followed up the next morning, the staff re-confirmed our late check-out, and confirmed the rate in our email confirmation (for both the initial booking, plus the late check-out) were correct. We felt confident at this point that all issues were resolved and we could relax - but then when we tried to check-out, suddenly the rate on our invoice was SGD300 more again, in addition to an incorrect F&B charge. The incorrect charges were resolved, however it was time-consuming, stressful (we had a reservation to attend), and incredibly frustrating having to locate the relevant emails AGAIN. I note that I'm a fairly frequent traveler and have never experienced this issue at any other hotel in Singapore (or elsewhere). There were other issues with our room, most of which have been mentioned by other reviewers, and although most are inconsequential individually, in combination, they are inconsistent with my expectations of a 5* hotel, and make for an uncomfortable stay. The minor issues included: dampness (unsure of the source/cause of this but - in particular dry clothing that was hung in the wardrobe was damp when we took it out to pack), odd room layout; some doors did not close properly (wardrobe door, toilet door); poor lighting in the bathroom (applying make up in the bathroom was tricky); no hooks for hanging damp towels (only the handle on the shower door) including no hand towel rail/holder; limited space on vanity for toiletries/cosmetics bag; the curtains in the bathroom didn't fully block the light into the bedroom area which was annoying at night. The main/car entrance to the hotel is also not on Robinson Road and the road closures (for Satay Street), caused confusion for our taxi driver - leaving us on Robinson Road to enter the hotel via the restaurant - a staff member came out to assist us, but it would have been preferable to have received communication from the hotel re address/entrance. There was a significant amount of wear and tear in the room also (again, didn't directly impact our stay, but made it more consistent with a 3* hotel) - crooked powerpoints, worn patches of paint - and it seemed a lot of patching had been done with a different colour, the floor was very scratched. Also relatively inconsequential but again, not 5* service, was the turn down service leaving a note on our door, saying they were unable to attend the room, because the DND sign was on - the time noted was 20 minutes after we had left the room, with DND switched off (we were already at a restaurant for dinner by the time left on the note). Overall, our stay at this hotel was disappointing, and what I hoped would be a relaxing experience left me feeling stressed and anxious.

Dear 316cassandrah, Thank you for your feedback and we are sad for having failed to meet your expectations on this occasion. We assure you this is certainly not the experience we want our valued guests to have while staying at Hotel Telegraph. The initial rate quoted from our predecessor was indeed the rate we have honoured and there was no additional charge except for the late check out rate for which we have received your acceptance via email. The “one hour” check out time extended was indeed an “honest mistake” and by no means intentional as we were running a high occupancy coupled with a back-to-back arrival and departure on that day, hence unable to grant many of our other guests the “late check outs”. For this mistake, please accept my humble apologies as your experience has obviously left you with such disappointment of our hotel. Rest assured that we have placed great priority on the issues you kindly raised and that our team will look into addressing them accordingly. Your comments and suggestions are much appreciated as they are indeed crucial in supporting our improvement efforts. Again, thank you for your comments, and we hope to have you back at Hotel Telegraph again to bring you a better experience on your next visit. Kind regards, Garry Chan

Apparently it was the old Sofitel. Some reviews were mixed but I’d agree it’s not a 5 star hotel but pitches at a decent 4. Staff were attentive and helpful and the room we had was spacious and clean if some inclusions rather dated and in need of replacement. My main complaint here is that our room ( don’t know about others) was so dark that finding things or applying make up in the bathroom say, was tricky. Breakfast is absolutely fine, good selection and fresh. Again, freshly made coffee rather than push button job would have been better. Outdoor pool is refreshing but nothing to write home about. All in all a decent enough hotel in need of some updating , I really did not like the stark foyer area, very unappealing furnishings and rather cold looking. Value for money, to a point. Great location. Big tick there.

Dear Joanna, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor. Hotel Telegraph had gone through a transition late September 2022 and subsequently became a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. We indeed have plan in the pipeline to upgrade our facilities in the hotel. By the way, all our rooms are fitted with “warm light” to allow a cozy feel for all our bedrooms setting. We will consult our interior designer to find a solution to improve the lighting for the vanity counter. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences that have caused you during your stay with us. We can only hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back to Hotel Telegraph in the not too distant future. Kind regards, Garry Chan

My family stayed at this hotel for one night in December on our way to Cambodia. When we booked it was a Sofitel hotel, however in the time between booking and staying it was rebranded as The Telegraph Hotel. This meant we no longer received any of the Accor benefits were entitled to as Gold Accor members and one of the key reasons we chose this hotel. The room was paid for in full and non-refundable so were were not able to change. We were staying on the actual night of my husband's birthday and I had emailed the hotel in advance to check if they offered a cake or birthday set-up, as almost all other hotels we have stayed at did. They did not so I asked for assistance in ordering a small cake. The cake they offered was over $100 AUD. I ended up ordering my own cake (which was delicious) for half the price. My main complaint with the hotel is the size of the rooms. They are TINY but they are also very dark. They are really only suitable for sleeping and if you plan to spend any time in your room they are too small and dark to do so comfortably. There was also no room for luggage. Secondly, the toilet and shower room are separate - which is great, however the toilet door did not close properly and allowed little privacy. The service was a bit hit and miss. When booking we had requested adjoining rooms so that we could access our two teenage children. The rooms we were assigned were adjoining however the door between was locked. It took several trips to reception to request the door to be open. Each time we were assured someone would be up shortly. After the fifth request (and an hour or so after check-in) this was finally done. We did have a positive experience with the front desk person on check-out. We had requested two taxis to take us back to the airport but they had managed to secure a maxi taxi instead. Not an easy task in Singapore. A further positive is the Telegraph being in the perfect location for visiting the satay market. It is literally across the road. Would I stay at the Telegraph next time I am in Singapore - probably not. In a city full of amazing hotels I think you can do better.

Dear Amanda, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor, I am very sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay at our hotel, and deeply regret the series of events that had marred your whole experience with us. It was unfortunate that we were not able to honour you the “perks” from our predecessor as we are not part of the group. The hotel had gone through a transition late September 2022. I was surprised to learn that your requested cake was charged over AUD100, and I will investigate from my side. As for cake request, our chef will normally provide a complimentary piece of cake as a “little surprise” and I am so sorry that this was not communicated to you upon your enquiry. We are sorry to hear that the deluxe room size you have booked was too tiny for you, in fact this category is larger than our Cosy room. All our rooms are fitted with “warm light” bulbs; hence it appears more yellow to create a cosy ambience for the bedroom. Thank you for pointing out the toilet door condition and we will inform our team to rectify it. We take into consideration all our guest feedback seriously. Your experience has been shared with our team and appropriate action has been taken to ensure similar experiences do not occur again. Once again, we sincerely apologise for the inconveniences that have caused you. We do hope that we will have an opportunity to restore your confidence and that you will find an improvement in this regard should you return to stay with us on your next trip to Singapore. It’s all about Ben at FOH, he makes this hotel what it is! I shouldn’t suggest the other staff don’t either as everyone was perfectly amendable and helpful - it was Ben’s helpful and cheerful personality that sold us though. He seemed to know all about everything and then some. With the recent change in ownership from Sofitel to Hotel Telegraph I would suggest the new owners pay careful attention to looking after Ben and their other talented staff - this is what helped this hotel stand out. Location was good, rooms very comfy (pillows soft and luxurious and a good shower - who could ask for more). Breakfast was ‘ok’ but we wouldn’t have paid $$48SGD pp if it hadn’t been part of our booked accommodation package as don’t believe that would have been value for what we got. Other than this, an excellent 3 day stopover on the way home to NZ.
