I think I will give it a 4 star. :) We stayed in hotel 81 tristar one onan rd for 5 days starting september 5 to 9. On our first day, I was truly disappointed by how they accommodated us. We were there at around 1pm and we asked if we could check in early. The gay guy told us...

Decent location near MRT staition. Plenty of 'local' food courts. Pool is great and a quite sun trap. The rooms are a great size. nicely layed out but a bit grubby for the price. I.e our windows had been screwed shut. The shavings from where they drilled the frame were still on the window sill. So they do not pay...

Room is of good size but filled with "surprises". There were plenty of tiny ants in the room, possibly because it is such an old building. The control panel of the air conditioner was badly damaged and barely functional. Stopper in the tub was missing ... just to name a few. Lucky, staffs were great and efficient. On one day,...

hotel was good...near to eating places. Great for big family as we are staying in the family room. very specious....with small swimming pool. Texi was a bit of problem. The room floor need to be clean or polish at least cos it was so dusty. will be staying there in future near to the airport, Mrt and food centre.

We arrived from the airport at 7.30am and straight away, we were given a key to our room, which we were very grateful for after a long flight. The staff were excellent and gave us clear directions to the MRT (underground) This was a real cost saver as only spent $SD5 each for .2 edays. Food places around the hotel...

Clean, ok location. Absolutely no services, no restaurants, skinny towels, no soap at sink, loose wires in outlets. Aircon ok though, and staff is reasonably friendly. Good choice for budget traveler who needs to be in this section of town

I booked this hotel keeping in mind that it is close to the notorious red light area of Geylang in Singapore. However, since I was travelling solo, I went ahead. The hotel itself was a little difficult to find, but at that cost, I felt it was a steal! About a 10 minute walk to the MRT, the hotel was...

Room is big as compared to other 81 chains. Very convenient to get halal food, there are so many choices to choose from. However, it is soo far from the Paya Lebar MRT station, 10-15mins walk and you'll get sweat before you arrive. Not suitable if you are with elderly or kids and your main transportation from one place to...

Rooms were basic but large, beds were comfortable, bathroom dated, close to MRT, wifi worked fine and as we had two devices they gave us two vouchers each day:-) Pool is very clean and large, aircon worked...we had no issues at all......for the price a good cheap choice for Singapore

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
