Great people and super friendly staff running this resort! We enjoyed all of what it had to offer for several nights. Clean and wonderful rooms with a view! Some of the staff that helped us like Ms. Fragile were extremely nice and sweet. We really appreciated it and we are planning on going back there again.
Whilst we had a few mishaps during our stay, one element that was constantly excellent was the Team, in particular Willi, Chef Jerry, Lester, Dandie, Joanne, Just, Joven, Salvador, Dixon, Jo, and Anery. Thank you for making our stay memorable. Gerard
Notes of lemon grass scent is always synonymous with most Shangrila hotels and resorts. This oasis is nestled away from a derelict town that has walls of decomposing trash humming in a humid climate that proves to be a direct contrast to utopia🙁 The arrival on a speed boat on top of azure waters was glorious as was the beautiful welcome and check in thereafter. The Rooms: Spacious with quality towels and linen. Amenities are lavish and housekeeping is consistent with their turndown service and keeping accommodation clean. Beds are comfortable. Gowns need to be replaced with a lighter materiel given the hot climate? I also feel that Nespresso machines should be a standard in all rooms based on what one pays. The Restaurants: Vintana for breakfast provides a huge choice of quality stations. The buffet is easy to choose from with fresh products. Service, however is slow and the coffee provided, inferior. Sirena - we waited 1 hour and 50 minutes for no food to arrive. No communication that the restaurant was supposedly overbooked from our waitress, Angelina. When I complained (I booked days ago and since reservations are directly in charge of booking restaurants, why is it so badly managed?) since my child of 13 was hungry and we were nearing 22:00 with no food, the manager came with a small bowl of salad greens? No complimentary glass of wine or bruschetta.... We eventually left and after speaking to the duty manager, we were offered complimentary in-room dining. After a standard wait, we received 2 portions of cold, raw lamb cutlets and dry chicken Tabdoori. After another wait, and now 23:30, the lamb arrived, was eaten and really underrated. Food is not cheap here and I feel rather cheated since one cannot enjoy the town and many restaurants as the standard is so poor. Greasy, awful selections within dirty restaurants that beg for care and passion. Rima: Our dinner was great with excellent service and attention to detail. Food was flavorsome and well-prepared. The Pool: Great service here - thank you Friendel! Never short of loungers, fluffy towels and umbrellas. Cheerful crew offer chilled lavender towelettes, iced water and work hard to please. The pool bar is well- priced and food is tasty. The entire environment is superb. Concierge: Sporadic levels of service - we got great service from Reynaldo - thank you. On checking out I found the service lacking and frustrating. I believe it's rude to let guests wait (Antionette)at a table while staff keep getting distracted by calls when one is waiting to check out. This is, incidentally, the last impression of the hotel, so it should be efficient. The Beaches: Marvelous; clean; fine, white sand; safe and well- serviced and cared for. New Year's Eve Dinner Very expensive with sub standard food, cold roast selections, mushy Paella, cold Chaffer dish selections, uncleaned prawns. The desserts were delicious as was the cheese selection. Entertainment was adequate and beverage selection handsome. Service was professional and attentive. The Spa Expensive though well positioned in Asian surroundings complete with medicinal herbs, Chinese lanterns, well-stocked Koi filled ponds. The rooms however are outdated and drab. I feel that the decor here is in need of an update. Treatments were okay, nothing special at all. In Conclusion: The hotel is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail, it's clean and well-cared for. Staff are friendly. But.... I feel as a guest, one has to eat here and although there are shuttles to and from the city, after one visit, the shock of such squalor and dirt, guests hosted at this level of accommodation, would have no desire to support the down-market town scene? So essentially, one is stuck here and has no choice but to fork out on meals at inflated rates. Alcohol, specifically wine, is exorbitant. We found this a challenge. Would I return? A definite no based on the level of service in the town, airport, taxis - there are better, exotic destinations that offer a nicer visiting experience. There are so many beautiful coastlines and oceans in the world, Boracay is in desperate need of a facelift that can justify the hassle factor of getting there. Yes, I am a Shangri La fan, and have stayed at this brand in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong and they were far better(perhaps they need to be, given hotel competition in developed cities?). Phllippinian friendliness is not a substitute for an evident lazy and slovenly local mentality...…
One of my best friends was getting married here, and so I booked my stay without having done any research, knowing it would just be easier to stay at the wedding venue. So I hadn’t read about the incredible convenience for airport pick up and the take your breath away arrival experience. I didn’t know that I would be welcomed by an amazing show and entourage that would escort me to my room in a private buggy, where check in would take place in 5 minutes. The room itself was impeccably clean with gorgeous views and an easy distance from the lobby (for reference I booked the premiere sea view room). The breakfast buffet, as I have now read others have also highlighted, was one of the best breakfast... yeah no, it was probably the best breakfast buffet I’d ever had, and I’ve been to many including those in Vegas. The beach, pool and entertainment areas were amazing, and honestly the staff there were the friendliest, most attentive and overall kind human beings ever. We were joking as we were in the buggy leaving that we probably wouldn’t get the band send off, and of course we were wrong. The departure was just as thoughtful as the arrival. I’m totally going to come back here if I ever come back to Boracay. I will note that it is a short-ish, depending on traffic tricycle/ shuttle ride away from White Sand Beach, which is a must visit. I might add a night to a White Beach beachfront hotel just for convenience. …
Not a 5 star experience at all. Rooms far from facilities. Facilities terrible dirty and old. Swimming pool full of hair and souled from children in nappies. Towels old. Restaurants pretentious and expensive. Most frustrating is service. Everything gets repeated a million times and yet you have to follow up at least 4 times as they forget or they just didn’t listen. I am surprised that there are not more negative reviews. Unfortunately the only thing that is good is the breakfast and the location on beach. There is no leadership/management at this resort. We were there for 7 days and asked several times to speak to a manager but no one called. Do not be fooled booking a family room as the sofa bed is so uncomfortable and then they force you to upgrade if you complain..... we had loads of bugs in our room and NO AC for 7 days. Extremely expensive. Not worth it. Consider the new Crimson hotel next door. …
