This hotel is perfectly adequate but some rooms only have views of the backs of other places. It can also be quite noisy, either from the street or the military compound nearby. It's very handy with local restaurants. Easy walking distance to Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, and Potala Palace. The passageway to breakfast looked rather abandoned, with rubbish and random furniture lying about. I was not impressed by breakfast as it was mostly cold (though it should have been hot). Coffee was atrocious! Beds were lovely and comfortable, and humidifier provided. Good air con too.

Thangka is a very nice hotel, in a fantastic location - very close to Barkhor Street and the Jokhang Temple. The modern Chinese-style rooms have comfortable beds and all the usual amenities (kettle, safe, etc), the shower was good and hot.
I thought the breakfast was good, with plenty of choice.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I had a room overlooking the pedestrian street from Jokhang to the Potala Palace. There was a small amount of nice from the street, but it wasn't too bad and added to the experience of being in Lhasa!

Lovely hotel, great location ideal for Lhasa old town. Beds comfortable pillows too. Quiet despite the central location. This hotel has everything and great shops and souvenirs close by. Staff generally good and friendly. Breakfast good lots of choices.

Tangkha Hotel is in a superb walkable location to Nangkhor Kora, circular clockwise route around the exterior of Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Kora, round old town Barkhor Street. A stone’s throw from the lovely restaurant, Nameste. Guide not needed to walk round this area and can recommend visiting Ramoche Temple independently.

Thangka is a Tibetan looking hotel but with under western standards. We got two double rooms and in both rooms service was very good. The location cannot be better and there are multiple restaurants around and multiple sightseeing sites on walking distance. Internet service was very good too. We will be staying again in the future.

This Hotel is hidden down a carpet-lined alley about 100 yards from the Jokhan Temple. It is ideally situated therefore for the Barkhor square area. I found the staff to be more cheerful and pleasant than in other hotels and although English was very limited, they did try to understand! The rooms were not overly large and the ensuite bathroom is seperated from the bed area by a glass screen and curtain. This posed no problems for us, however in the event of a stomach upset, it would have proved to be quite unpleasant for other room occupants. Cleanliness was quite good other than for a dirty carpet (which would appear to be de rigeur in all Yunnan and Tibetan hotels!) There is a coffee room and internet on the fourth floor though smokers tend to use this at times. Breakfast was OK - not exciting, but it did offer good yoghurt, toast and some variety of hot foods

We booked this hotel on chinahotelsreservation.com 2 days before we arrived from Xian. We had been staying at a hostel and wanted something a bit nicer for a few days. We booked a Zang style room for 298yuan (much less than their rack rate).
The hotel is fairly new having been built in mid 2007. It is a four star rated hotel. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Bathroom was modern and clean with lots of toiletries included.

Although it is right next to the Jokhang Temple Square it is off an alley so very quiet at night. We arrived at night and it was quite dark in the alley. The location is excellent and easy to pop into when you need the conveniences.

Staff speak very little English and the breakfast is very ordinary but included. Staff are friendly but you don't get the atmosphere or tour help you would in a hostel. We found the pillows uncomfortable as they were much higher than we were used to.

We had free Internet in our room once we had asked for and promptly received a cable. There is also an Internet Lounge for a cost.

As we are here in winter it was great to have an efficient air conditioning.

The big advantage of this hotel is its location. Walking distance to Potala Palace and the temple.
The rates in the lobby is outrageous and not what I paid through the tour agent. Do not book direct. It has a sign that says 4 star but in international standards it is only at best a 3 star. The breakfast is basic but ok.
The room is ok but the carpets need replacing and the bed very hard. Has a nice shower and hot water.
I did not eat any meals at the hotel as there are lots of restaurants close by that serve great food
Staff does not speak any English
Pick a room overlooking the courtyard as the construction noise on the other side will keep you awake.

Stay for three nights at this extremely center hotel. The location is the best as the hotel is in the quiet size of the road but the famous street market was just 30 meter from the hotel. The Barkhor Square and Jokhang Temple is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel's lobby is not attractive at all, small and dark. This hotel has only one lift and every floor they have different restaurants which make this hotel is not that safe as outside guests can dine in. The rooms is not quiet because there is no sound isolation and you can hear everything from outside. The air conditioner is worse as it is not working at all, and during summer time, I have to open the window during night time. The bathroom is a semi open system with no door. The floor is slippery and be careful especially while you are during the bathfoam. Room's size is adequate but unattractive, it is a bit dark. Free Wifi in the room and the signal is up and down. Breakfast is the worst, most of the time it is empty and the food seems to be not very fresh. Never have drinking water in the water dispenser during my four day stays and the staffs even don't care about that. Not recommend for family with children as the room window is quite low and kids will jump out if they open it.
