Good hotel in lhasa and superb location
Thangka is a Tibetan looking hotel but with under western standards. We got two double rooms and in both rooms service was very good. The location cannot be better and there are multiple restaurants around and multiple sightseeing sites on walking distance. Internet service was very good too. We will be staying again in the future.

Probably the best Hotel I stayed in in Yunnan or Tibet
This Hotel is hidden down a carpet-lined alley about 100 yards from the Jokhan Temple. It is ideally situated therefore for the Barkhor square area. I found the staff to be more cheerful and pleasant than in other hotels and although English was very limited, they did try to understand! The rooms were not overly large and the ensuite bathroom is seperated from the bed area by a glass screen and curtain. This posed no problems for us, however in the event of a stomach upset, it would have proved to be quite unpleasant for other room occupants. Cleanliness was quite good other than for a dirty carpet (which would appear to be de rigeur in all Yunnan and Tibetan hotels!) There is a coffee room and internet on the fourth floor though smokers tend to use this at times. Breakfast was OK - not exciting, but it did offer good yoghurt, toast and some variety of hot foods

    Nice, very central, good facilities
Hi, stayed 3 nts in Lhasa. Thangka Hotel is a good choice: central, hot water, nice shower, our room was quiet (3rd floor, window was not not to the inner courtyard!), free wifi (but only in lobby!) , brkfst acceptabel, safe in room, safe area, western toilets Lhasa is a wonderful city!!! cheers

Tangkha Hotel is in a superb walkable location to Nangkhor Kora, circular clockwise route around the exterior of Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Kora, round old town Barkhor Street. A stone’s throw from the lovely restaurant, Nameste. Guide not needed to walk round this area and can recommend visiting Ramoche Temple independently.

Well TripAdvisor I haven’t posted a trip in a long time. This is my first “true vacation” in two years. I am at the Thangka hotel in Lhasa, Tibet. This hotel is part of a tour so you never know what you’re going to get regarding tour hotels. The room is perfectly fine. The linen is lovely. The hotel staff were incredibly welcoming and lovely to our off-season tour group. There’s quite a bit of street noise but I travel with earplugs and I keep the air on. So no worries in regarding getting a good nights sleep. 💤 If you noticed a little bottle coming out of the wall… That’s for oxygen! Because you will get dizzy when you’re 12 freaking thousand miles up in the air. In fact this day is just an acclamation day

I stayed Thangka 3 nights for waiting a tough trip to go to Ali Northwest Loop. Thangka was one of the hotel that I couldn’t find any to complain. Very nice staffs at reception, even every cleaning staffs you met were weary smile. The room was big enough to have a small party. Very good toiletries provided ... location was in central of Lhasa that convenient to everywhere. I didn’t try it’s buffet breakfast cos a lot more cheap restaurant to choose outside. The price is medium but quality of service is closed to 3-4 star level, they have travel desk to arrange all kind of program, also a very responsible and helpful travel agent , strongly recommend anyone to stay there.

We were informed at the time going to Lhasa that our hotel has been changed to thangka hotel. At first I was worried, but when we arrived there , it all good. Staffs in the hotel are very friendly, quick check in. Room with ac, heating up and oxygen access in the room if needed, everything is very clean. Breakfast has Chinese food, Tibetan food, not much of western style, but I guess when you go travel, you would want to taste the local food. The hotel is a Tibetan style hotel. Location is great, located at traditional Tibetan ppl living area. next to the 2nd largest temple in Lhasa , and backside of the hotel is the famous bakhor street, and there is a Burger King next to the hotel :), 5mins drive to the palace. 2mins walking you will be on the street filled up with Tibetan shops . Big supermarket and pharmacy are all about 5-10 mins walk. Rooftop restaurant is nice , can enjoy an afternoon tea while over looking the temple and palace ... There is a Tibetan restaurant, food is nice if you like Chinese food. It is more like Sichuan style. I would recommend this hotel .

Open the air condition, but it doesnt cooling down the room at all. In the end, I slepr with windows open. But the window is facing ground level shops and other rooms. So it was noisy even after midnight. The star, given is mainly for hotel food and good location. It is very closed to the main tourist spots for the city.

I had low expectations because of reviews written here but was surprised to find a hotel that was reasonably clean and comfortable by the standard of regional Chinese cities. The hotel’s location is its key feature, just moments from the historical centre of Lhasa. The breakfast was pretty awful but much better than many places I have visited. I would stay again.

Super location in the city's pedestrian area. Staff friendly although limited in their english were always trying to assist. Dining area for breakfast was dark and looked like a tunnel, however food was not bad. BEST of all was the rooftop view ( you must climb a ladder from the bar area with the help of the waiter ) to Potala Palace and the mountains beyond. Rooms were spacious and well equipped, so cannot share earlier complaints

Limited English speaking staff, though always someone would be found when needed. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Spacious, clean, quiet bedroom with all facilities. Breakfast was non-Western, which some might not like but we thought it a good thing. A good taste of Tibetan cuisine and culture here and in Lhasa generally. Good dinner had on the rooftop terrace. Perfectly located close to Barkhor Street and overlooking the Palace. Easy walk to Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. Really enjoyed our stay here :)

This had to be the worst hotel I have had the misfortune to stay in the manager only English was when are you checking out he was just a joke and rude with it the restaurant come tip was intolerable the food was just a joke I've seen pigs eat better the staff could not speak a word of English didn't know what a poached egg was it promised a western style breakfast so a few cold French fries was it !! Even the rooms were dirty it took me 2 days to finally get a cup so I could make myself coffee this had no redeeming features at all I could not even give it 1 star appalling

The hotels only redeeming quality is its location; after that there is nothing good I could say about this property. A front desk that doesn't understand any language but their own and a front office manager who is totally incompetent. Items at breakfast were gone in the early early morning and not replenished and only if you want to stay a few days would you be willing to give them your laundry as you'll never know when you'll receive it back
