Excellent staying, we stay here already for one year as a longterm guest. And really enjoying the staying in Shangri-La Hotel. Within this year we met so many nice hotel employees they really want that you feel home. Special service we receive on the 40th floor in the Horizon Club. The stuff there treats you really nicely. You really feel that you are like at home. We want give a special thank you for their efforts and service on the Horizon Club to, Alice, Hinz, Audrey and Sophie. They really are professional service people. They almost can read your mind for what you want ask for and provide you the things before you just ask for. It‘s really great to stay there. We really enjoy every day to stay in the Shangri-La Hotel. Rarely to find such professional stuff. They can really deal with all kind of customers. Thank you!!!

The service and facilities in this Shangri La are pretty good standard but not luxury. Checking, restaurant, breakfast and Gym were all good. We had an afternoon tea at the Horizon club lounge with the family staycation package. The lounge was very comfortable with high ceilings and very large and with view on the Xianwu lake. The afternoon tea was "cheap" one part of package. The free upgrade of room for Golden Circle was poor. I did not feel I had an upgrade. Room has a 90's style though I read the hotel opened in 2014 only! No real luxury but very practical room, everything worked though I did not watch TV. Good for business trips, close to Nanjing train station, one subway station away only and a 5 minute walk to Xinmofang subway station. They have big banquet hall for company seminars or events etc. Wife and I enjoyed my lunch at the Jiangnan Wok restaurant in the hotel.

We had friendly check-in at their lounge on 40th floor. It took little bit longer than we expected, but we got refreshments from the lounge.

Horizon club room was basically good, but it had lot of wasted space. Sleep quality was very good. Good bed and pillows.
Toilet was large and in all ways good. Tv is already on small side. View on Xuan Wu lake is ok from the higher floors.

Horizon Club snack during day time were not so special, but their durian pastry was awesome. Soft drink selection, tea and coffee more or less was just ok.

Food at club lounge must be improved a lot. Most of the food was not really tasty. The variety was enough, but taste was not what I personally would expect in Shangri-La. Alcoholic beverages were just about ok. Surely plenty of room for improvement.

Breakfast had pretty limited selection. In general I was not satisfied with the overall quality of the breakfast. We did order some omelettes, which were just ok. Beef noodle soup was good. They had also quite tasty danish. Fruit selection was not big enough. Bacon was too dry and char kuey teow had 0 taste. Baked beans were fine. Coffee and orange juice was good. They also brought us some espresso & latte to our table. 3.5 stars for breakfast.

Final verdict:
Hotel is pretty much ok. Service also. They speak mainly decent English (in case needed). 4 stars total rating should be about right.

Expansive breakfast buffet but overall average food items. Less stir fry dishes than I expect- lots of steamed items and not great selections of fruits.

It seems the staff here speak little English except front desk.

Room 2701 king size bed is decently large. Bathroom doesn’t have air vents so it does get a bit muggy. Internet is ok but could be a bit faster.

Gym is small but they do offer free cold beverage bottles, such as water bottles. It’s a luxury finding cold water here in China as most drink room temp water so I appreciate this.

Overall hotel is ok but its age is starting to show a bit. Not my first choice in staying here again but it’s not the end of the world if I were to return to same hotel.

The staff at the Horizon Club Floor was first rate and assists makes me feel at home. They've added nice touches like Pre Check in call to make sure my needs were met. I'm terms of views of Xuanwu Lake the Shangri-la has the best panoramic view from the Horizon Club Floor.

Very nice stay at one of our favorite Nanjing properties. Quality service with extra touches and excellent lounge experience. Short walk to Xuanwu lake and surrounds. For my money this hotel and the Kempinski are the best places to stay in wonderful Nanjing!

I was at this hotel when it first opened for business. I always like the Shangri-la brand, and I believe their management truly go the extra mile to show they value long-time customers like me. So when I saw the teething problems at this Shangri-la when it first started, I was somewhat taken aback and was reluctant to return to stay despite visiting Nanjing rather frequently, at least 2-3 times a year in fact.

This time round, my usual choice at the Xinjiekou area was booked out for the dates I was planning to be at Nanjing. So after some to-ing and fro-ing, I decided to give my favourite hotel brand's Nanjing outfit another try. And what a pleasant surprise I got this time round!

The main problem of the smell from the hotpot restaurant the last time I was here has been solved. The restaurant remains and is still serving the spice-filled Chongqing delicacy, but gone are the strong smells which permeated the entire building the last time I was here. The local staff told me that it all had to do with the ventilation system and they'd solved that soon after I raised the issue. Apparently I was just one of the many who raised it. Now you know your words do not fall on deaf ears.

Right, the location is also more "exciting" now with more shops within walking distance. There are convenience stores now, right off the corner of the metro station which is just next to the main entrance to this Shangri-la. In terms of location, I suppose the management of this hotel brand saw many things the rest of us could not see several years back.

But that really is not the best of it all. In any Shangri-la, I have always been impressed by the staff serving their guests, and some of these simply stand out. in the Fuzhou one, I have seen Alvin, Wade and Will going that extra mile to help me with some of the most absurd requests a guest can ever think of. In the new Hangzhou Shangri-la, the (now ex) concierge supervisor Jason must really be the gem of all gems in the Shangri-la crown. At the Yangzhou outfit, I simply adored Jim the concierge boy who had sadly left the hotel soon after my second stay. And in the old Pudong Shangri-la in Shanghai and the China World Hotel in Beijing, I am treated like a relative who has left home and ought to be showered with love and care each time I am back.

In Nanjing's Shangri-la, we have Will the truly smart, high IQ and high EQ concierge boy who is destined for greater things in life. Just see how he helped me with my courier requests and all, especially with the complicated payment (China does not use cash now!). I cannot praise him enough. And those whom I met at the front desk, who checked me in and out, were also exceptional and exemplary in their service levels.

The only qualm I have is the lack of similar enthusiasm among staff manning the Horizon Lounge on the 40th floor. Bordering on clueless and oftentimes disinterested, the management of this Nanjing Shangri-la needs to deploy better (read more intelligent, enthusiastic and confident) staff for this lounge. Just look at who mans the lounge at the Mid-town Shangri-la at Hangzhou, and the superb service of the lounge staff at the China World Hotel in Beijing. Learn from these colleagues of yours. After all, some of your most loyal and high-paying customers come to use this lounge; you don't want them to go away thinking that this is Shangri-la's latest service standards.

All in all, good work and a vast improvement. Keep it up, smooth out the rough corners and you're on your way to be some of the best in the Shangri-la stable.

Good location next to metro station. Close to Xuanwu Lake and a few metro stations from city center.
Staff doesn't speak even basic English. You can't get anything done through concierge or front desk. Even ordering a taxi is hard. Housekeeping ignores the do not disturb sign most of the time. Restaurants are open only a few hours during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing to eat in between other the room service which is way to expensive for the quality it provides. The bathroom fitting need replacing.
All in all this is not a 5 star hotel, maybe something between 3 and 4 stars would fit better.
